Notes:
1. A 5-point scale is used for the scores. The higher the score, the better the rating.
2. Fac. Member Avg Score: The mean of all the scores for each question for the faculty member.
3. Fac. Member Avg Score Std. Dev: A measure of the range of variability. It measures the extent to which a faculty
member's Average Score differs from all the scores in the faculty member's evaluation. The smaller the standard
deviation, the greater the robustness of the number given as average.
4. Dept Avg Score :
(a) the mean score of same activity type (Laboratory) within the department.
(b) the mean score of same activity type (Laboratory), at the same module level ( level 2000 ) within the
department.
5. Fac. Avg Score :
(c) the mean score of same activity type (Laboratory) within the faculty.
(d) the mean score of same activity type (Laboratory), at the same module level ( level 2000 ) within the
faculty.

STUDENTS' COMMENTS ON TEACHER

Activity Type: LABORATORY
What are the teacher's strengths? (5 comments)
Comments from students who gave an average score greater than or equal to 4.5 for the computed overall
effectiveness of the teacher
1. One of the best TAs I've had in NUS. Sunil is very passionate about passing down his knowledge to us, and
constantly brings up the important points to make sure we know what is going on. He also brings up other relevant
questions outside of the practical notes which stimulates our thinking instead of just sticking to what's on the paper.
He is extremely approachable and open about discussions and is ever humble to learn from us as well. Really
thankful for him!
2. Sunil has been an excellent TA over the lab sessions in the module. Not only does he constantly ask us to clarify
our doubts, he goes beyond the teaching scopes and explains the concepts very clearly. He has really increase my
interests in life sciences generally and I would learn under him again.
3. Sunil is a really great TA, he is obviously very passionate and knowledgeable about his field. His explanations are
clear and he always makes sure everyone understands the concepts behind doing every step. Sunil is also friendly
and approachable for consultations. He encourages us to question the steps that we are doing and in coming up with
answers, instead of spoon-feeding us. Overall, I think Sunil is a really capable TA and one of the best TAs I've had.
4. Sunil is an extremely nice TA who do not hesitate to go the extra mile for us. He always spends a lot of time
explaining to the concepts to us, repeating when necessary, and ensuring that we do not have any doubts.
Furthermore, he would post questions to us on minor aspects of the practical which are not just useful in terms of
understanding the whole practical, but also useful for any future lab works we might do. Thank you Sunil!
Comments from students who gave an average score greater than or equal to 4.0 and less than 4.5 for the
computed overall effectiveness of the teacher
1. very patient and explained the practical concepts with good illustrations. encourage student's participation to ask
questions. will make a good lecturer
What improvements would you suggest to the teacher? (3 comments)
Comments from students who gave an average score greater than or equal to 4.5 for the computed overall
effectiveness of the teacher
1. I think Sunil can speak a little slower sometimes.
2. NIL.
3. Some times he speaks too fast but he constantly checks with us about his speed.

  • 5. STUDENTS' COMMENTS ON TEACHER Faculty Member: SUNIL SINGH Department: BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES Academic Year: 2015/2016 Faculty: SCIENCE Semester: 2 Module: LABORATORY TECHNIQUES IN LIFE SCIENCES - LSM2191 Activity Type: LABORATORY What are the teacher's strengths? (5 comments) Comments from students who gave an average score greater than or equal to 4.5 for the computed overall effectiveness of the teacher 1. One of the best TAs I've had in NUS. Sunil is very passionate about passing down his knowledge to us, and constantly brings up the important points to make sure we know what is going on. He also brings up other relevant questions outside of the practical notes which stimulates our thinking instead of just sticking to what's on the paper. He is extremely approachable and open about discussions and is ever humble to learn from us as well. Really thankful for him! 2. Sunil has been an excellent TA over the lab sessions in the module. Not only does he constantly ask us to clarify our doubts, he goes beyond the teaching scopes and explains the concepts very clearly. He has really increase my interests in life sciences generally and I would learn under him again. 3. Sunil is a really great TA, he is obviously very passionate and knowledgeable about his field. His explanations are clear and he always makes sure everyone understands the concepts behind doing every step. Sunil is also friendly and approachable for consultations. He encourages us to question the steps that we are doing and in coming up with answers, instead of spoon-feeding us. Overall, I think Sunil is a really capable TA and one of the best TAs I've had. 4. Sunil is an extremely nice TA who do not hesitate to go the extra mile for us. He always spends a lot of time explaining to the concepts to us, repeating when necessary, and ensuring that we do not have any doubts. Furthermore, he would post questions to us on minor aspects of the practical which are not just useful in terms of understanding the whole practical, but also useful for any future lab works we might do. Thank you Sunil! Comments from students who gave an average score greater than or equal to 4.0 and less than 4.5 for the computed overall effectiveness of the teacher 1. very patient and explained the practical concepts with good illustrations. encourage student's participation to ask questions. will make a good lecturer What improvements would you suggest to the teacher?
