EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The project was started on 1st
of June after knowing all the relevant information
about the different Sundek’s laminate available, under the guidance of Mr.
Nishant. The first part of my project involves the knowing the consumer
behaviour through conducting personal interview and create awareness of
Sundek new product. For this I made the questionnaire for conducting personal
interviews. At the same time, we were motivate to consumer to buy the
laminate. Along with the study of dealers was conducted to better understand
the grievances and identify the gaps. For this I visited around 50 outlets in the
area, ie, Chandpol, Ajmer road, Sikar road and Tonk road in jaipur and interect
to them. I was also supposed to find out new dealers outlets and convince them
to sell Sundek’s laminate by showing them the opportunity of getting better
experience and increase the customer base. Despite of summer and low demand
I was successful in persuading people and a number of new retail sale points
were developed.

SUN ESD (Electrostatic Dissipative Laminate)
View Details
Sun ESD drains out the static charges from the surface thereby minimising the chances of
sparking & damage to sensitive electronic appliances. At the same time, it does not allow
dust particles to accumulate on the surface, resulting in a clean & healthy environment.
What is Electrostatic discharge?
Electrostatic charges are generated due to friction. Electrostatic discharge is defined as the
transfer of electro static charges between bodies at different potential caused by direct
contact or induced electro static field
Why Electrostatic Charges are harmful?
• The discharge of static through sensitive electronic devices can irreversibly harm the
electronic devices causing loss of components, lower reliability & reduced productivity of
the facility.
• In workplace the accumulated static charges tend to slow down the performance of
computers, laptops & other electronic devices. This brings down the overall performances of
any organization.
• The accumulated static charges also generate sparks that might lead to severe fire
hazards.
Advantages:
• Sun ESD ensures longer life of electronic gadgets.
• Dust particles can be easily removed from Sun ESD surface & so the health risks arising
out of fine dust particles are eliminated.
Usage Areas:
• Clean Room Zones, where maximum no. of dust particles in a certain volume of air is
maintained, e.g. pharmaceutical labs, biotech & micro-biology labs, etc.
• IT offices & call centres where huge numbers of electronic devices are used.
• Electronic assembly units with highly sensitive electronic parts.
Basic Limitations:
• Sun ESD is meant for interior decor & not to be used for structural purpose. They must be
bonded to suitable substrates.
• Must not be exposed to extremes in humidity or to temperatures over 135° C for long.
• They should not be exposed to flame, molten metal, metallic sparks or intense, direct
sunlight. Nor should they be used as cutting surfaces.
SUN XTRO (Exterior Grade Laminate)

properties.
Basic Limitations:
• Any laminate contracts under conditions of low humidity & expands in high humidity environments.
The material to be used should be conditioned at the site in which it is to be applied.
• Provisions must be made for adequate gap, larger holes & seals, wide-headed screws, etc. Screw heads
must not be embedded in the drilled hole. The panels must not be assembled too closely together.
• Excessive wiping & the use of abrasive materials that could cause surface abrasions & scratches
should always be avoided.
• Laminated panels must always be shipped & stored in a flat, horizontal position.
SUN CORE (Colour Core Laminate)

Technical Information
Quality Standards
To attain the highest standard in quality, papers are specially selected,
impregnated with melamine and phenolic resins and then pressed and hardened
together under high temperature and pressure to ensure better bonding. A special
finish makes the laminates water and scratch resistant. Over and above, the unique
Anti-Ageing Formula gives the laminates high resistance to various kinds of wear
and tear.
With a client base spread across the globe, Sundek quality is truly international.
The Furniture Industries Research Association (FIRA) of UK has tested and found
Sundek laminate quality as equal to or exceeding British European Standard "BS
EN 438". Sundek laminates also meet ISI, American NEMA LD -3 and other
international standards.
Our products are made in conformity to IS: 2046. Also, the electrical insulation
sheets conform to IS: 2036, grade P1. Sundek is also an ISO 9001 -2000 certified
company. The laboratory conducts tests at each stage to ensure superior quality.
Raw Materials: Each raw material is thoroughly tested as per required standards
and is accepted only if it meets the same.
Goods in Process: Elaborate process norms have been fixed in each stage of the
manufacturing process. The goods are tested at the end of each process to check
whether they meet the process norms.
Finished Product: Samples from each and every batch of production are
subjected to strict quality tests like.
Boiling Water Test: The laminate is kept in boiling water for 2 hours in order to
check whether it has become a homogenous mass that will not delaminate for a
lifetime.
Dry Heat Resistance Test: The laminate is subjected to indirect heat temperature
of 1800 C for 20 minutes by a cup of hot oil. This checks the laminate's resistance
to heat on a day to day basis.
Surface Wear Test: Emery paper with specific weight is rubbed against the
laminate in a circular motion. A machine records the number of circles a laminate
can endure before it gives in to wear and tear.
Scratch Resistance Test: A diamond point is pushed over the laminate to check
how resistant it is to scratches and whether it is tough enough to face daily usage.
Stain Resistance Test: A variety of chemicals are spilled over and kept for a long
time on the surface of the laminate to make sure that it is easy to clean after
staining.
Crack Resistance Test: The laminate is fixed on a stand at an angle. It is then
kept in a heated oven at 1800⁰C for 24 hours to check if laminate cracks in
extreme temperatures.
Steam Resistance: The laminate is directly exposed to hot steam for one hour and
tested for its colour fastness.
Ball Impact Resistance Test: A solid ball is thrown on to the laminate with force
to check whether the laminate cracks if anything falls on it.
It is only after the laminates clear all these tests that they are sent out to the
market. Sundek warrants that its products are devoid of any manufacturing defects
and meet the promised quality standards
Social Commitment
We are committed to a clean and green environment: Sundek is committed to
the cause of a clean and green environment. We have introduced many designs
that are similar to natural veneers and wood patterns in order to restrict the use
of wood and hence, restrict destruction of forests.
Care and Maintenance
Cleaning Recommendations:
To clean the surface, use a damp cloth or sponge and a mild soap or detergent.
Difficult stains such as coffee or tea can be removed using a mild household
cleaner and baking soda; mixing to achieve a paste consistency. Use a stiff
nylon bristle brush, scrubbing (approx. 15-20 strokes) the affected area. Do
not scrub so as to mar (damage, scratch) the surface finish.
Stubborn stains that resist any of the above cleaning methods may require the
use of undiluted household bleach or nail polish remover. Use a cotton ball
saturated with bleach or nail polish remover; gently rub the stain for up to two
minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and wipe dry using a soft cloth.
This step may be repeated if the stain appears to be going away and the colour
of the laminate has not been affected.
Note 1:
Long exposure of the laminate surface to bleach will cause discoloration.
Always rinse laminate surfaces after cleaning. Failure to rinse after cleaning
can cause damage; even if a small amount of cleaning solution remains on the
surface. A dry residue may be invisible; however, moisture from cups or
drinks can reactivate it, and result in permanently etched scars or stains over
time.
Note 2:
Acidic or abrasive cleaners can damage laminate surfaces; do not use them.
Drain cleaners containing lye will permanently damage the laminate surface. If
you spill a drain cleaner, wipe it up immediately and rinse several times with
water.
Hair, textile and food dyes can cause permanent stains. If dye should happen
to spill, wipe it up immediately with dishwashing detergent or an all-purpose
cleaner. Wipe spills away promptly and rinse several times with water.
Rust removers contain harsh chemicals, which will quickly cause permanent
damage. If a spill occurs, wipe off all residues immediately, wash thoroughly
with soapy water and rinse several times.
Steel wool and other abrasive pads will damage the laminate face. Do not use
them for cleaning and don’t store steel wool pads on your countertop; the
metal can rust and leave stains.
Toilet bowl cleaners contain harsh chemicals that can cause permanent
damage. If spills occur, wipe up immediately, wash surface with soapy water
and rinse several times.
Note 3:
Harsh chemicals like Hydrochloric Acid, Sulphuric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid,
Phosphoric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, etc. Cause damage to the surface.
Note 4:
Remember, sharp objects can damage the surface of Sundek Laminate,
marring its beauty and lowering wear and stain resistance. Although high
pressure laminates are somewhat resistant to scratch and marring, the surface
can be damaged, even under normal use.
Note 5:
Sundek laminate may need occasional dusting depending on where it’s used.
To keep the surface beautiful, use a non-oily furniture spray. (Remember to
clean the spray off several times a year to prevent build-up.) Furniture polish
can also help hide fine scratches in the surface.
The Sundek Warranty: Sundek warrants that its products are free from
manufacturing defects and are fit for normal and usual purposes. The products
must be inspected prior to installation and our liability will be limited to the
extent of the cost of the product only. No claims shall be entertained if products
are processed, damaged or altered in anyway.
A good laminate requires not only good workmanship but care and maintenance as well.
DO'S
You may wipe laminate surface with ordinary soft damp cloth to remove stains,
Household ammoniated liquid detergent can also be used. For stubborn stains first rub
with diluted organic solvent stain remover and then wipe it clean with damp soft cloth.
DON'TS
Avoid usage of abrasive cleansers and wire brushes. The care and maintenances
instructions are for our standard laminates and does not apply to Metalic & Silverene
laminates, as they are created for special optical effects and are sensitive.

Furniture is not just about a beautiful home
it is about a lifetime investment
 Importance of laminates in furniture: For most people, good furniture
is a luxury that comes from hard-earned money. The cost of laminates is a
very small part of the total cost of furniture. Yet, the final look of the
furniture depends entirely on the quality of the laminates. Furniture with
poor quality laminates usually begins to look old in a short time. As a
result, one has to either bear the cost of new furniture again or live with
shabby furniture. Such a situation can be easily prevented by using
laminates coated with an Anti-Ageing Formula.
 What skin is to human body, laminates are to furniture: laminates
provide total protection to the furniture against all kinds of physical,
chemical, weather and other ravages of the environment. Hence, it is very
important to only use laminates which are coated with an Anti-Ageing
Formula to keep your furniture looking new for a longer period of time.
Trying to economise on your choice of laminates is a direct risk to the
look and age of your furniture.
 How to choose a good laminate: Be aware! They all look the same!
Purchasing good quality laminates is not an easy job as those with poor
quality look rich on the surface. Therefore purchasing laminates on the
basis of cost is risky as you may land up buying poor quality laminates.
This will make your new furniture look shabby within a short time. It is
recommended to be careful during the selection of laminates and
purchase only those coated with an Anti-Ageing Formula.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Design
Research is an art of scientific investigation through search for new facts in
Any branch of knowledge. It is a moment from known to unknown.
The American Marketing Association (AMA) redefined Marketing Research
as:
―Marketing Research is function that link consumer, the customer and
marketer through information used to identify and define market
opportunities and problems Generate, refine, and evaluate marketing
performance, Monitor marketing performance, improve understanding
of marketing as a process.‖
Marketing research is the systematic and objective
 identification
 collection
 analysis
 dissemination
 and use of information
For the purpose of improving decision making related to the
 identification and
 solution of problems and opportunities in marketing
Research always starts with a question or a problem. Its purpose is to find
answers to questions through the application of the scientific method. It is a
systematic and intensive study directed towards a more complete knowledge of
the subject studied.
As marketing does not address itself to basic or fundamental question, it
Does not qualify as basic research. On the contrary, it tackles problems,
Which seem to have immediate commercial potential. In view of the major
Consideration, marketing research should be regarded as applied research.
We may also say that marketing research is of both types problem solving
and problem oriented.
Marketing research is as systematic and objectives study of the problems
pertaining to the marketing of the goods and services. It may be emphasized
that it is not restricted to any particular area of marketing, but is applied to
all the phases and aspects.
Sampling Design
Whom to collect data from choosing the sample of respondents by
studying a sub-group of population the characterties of the population
of the population can be ascertained.
While deciding to use sampling the of how many units to study arise
because the repetiline pattern in a population usually makes it
unnecessary to check it out its entirely
Once a sufficiently large scale group or sample has been approached
the pattern will demonstrate its all and another equally large sup-
group will not throw up a significant difference
The target population is the collection of elements or objects that possess the
information sought by the researcher and about which inferences are to be
made. The target population should be defined in terms of elements, sampling
units, extent, and time.
• An element is the object about which or from which the
information is desired, e.g., the respondent.
• A sampling unit is an element, or a unit containing the element,
that is available for selection at some stage of the sampling
process.
• Extent refers to the geographical boundaries.
Time is the time period under consideration.
Your marketing research project will rarely examine an entire population. It’s
more practical to use a sample—a smaller but accurate representation of the
greater population. In order to design your sample, you must find answers to
these questions:
1. From which base population is the sample to be selected?
2. What is the method (process) for sample selection?
3. What is the size of the sample?
Once you’ve established who the relevant population is (completed in the
problem formulation stage), you have a base for your sample. This will allow
you to make inferences about a larger population. There are two methods of
selecting a sample from a population: probability or non-probability sampling.
The probability method relies on a random sampling of everyone within the
larger population. Non-probability is based in part on the judgment of the
investigator, and often employs convenience samples, or by other sampling
methods that do not rely on probability.
The final stage of the sample design involves determining the appropriate
sample size. This important step involves cost and accuracy decisions. Larger
samples generally reduce sampling error and increase accuracy, but also
increase costs.
TYPE OF SAMPLE
In behavioural sciences research, samples are most often selected by the
investigator’s judgment, convenience, or other non-probabilistic (non-random)
processes. In contrast, probability samples offer the promise of bias-free
selection and permit the measurement of sampling error. Non-probability
samples offer neither of these features. In non-probability sampling, you have to
trust that the researcher had the knowledge and resources to select an unbiased
sample.
THE SAMPLING UNIT
A sampling unit is a unit of the population chosen during the sampling process.
The sampling unit may contain one or more elements describing the population.
For instance, a group medical practice may be interested in surveying past
patient behaviour of the male wage earner or his entire household. In either
case, it may be preferable to select a sample of households as sampling units.
THE SAMPLING FRAME
A sample frame is a physical listing of elements within the population. The
frame helps you to identify, assess, and select the elements to be considered in
the population. When a list doesn’t actually exist, the sampling frame would be
the procedure producing a list.
Ideally, the sample frame should identify each population element only once
and avoid elements not in the defined population. Of course, such a perfect
frame is rarely available for behavioural research purposes. As shown in Figure
7.1, a sampling frame may be incomplete, too comprehensive, or a combination
of both. In addition, the frame may include individual population elements more
than once. Any of these situations can lead to coverage error.
SAMPLE SIZE
Sample size is related to precision. Three traditional approaches can help decide
the size for any given research project:
1. Arbitrarily or judgmentally determined
2. Minimum cell size needed for analysis
3. Budget-based
Once the data has been collected using one of these approaches, precision can
be estimated by applying the appropriate standard error formula or formulas. A
fourth approach would involve specifying your desired precision before
sampling and then applying the appropriate standard error formula to determine
the sample size.
COSTS OF SAMPLING
The plan must account for the estimated costs of sampling. There are two
traditional cost categories: overhead costs, which are relatively fixed for a
sampling procedure, and variable costs, which depend on the number of
respondents contacted and interviewed in the study. In reality, costs of the
whole data collection process are usually considered together. The dashed lines
in Figure 7.1 indicate that sample design and sample size are usually considered
together. If the estimated costs are too large, you may consider either another
sample design and/or smaller-sized samples.
NON-PROBABILITY SAMPLING PROCEDURES
Non-probability sampling is distinguished from probability sampling in that
non-probability sample elements do not have a known, nonzero chance of being
selected for the sample. As such, sampling error generally cannot be measured.
Non-probability samples are widely used in exploratory research, but are also
valuable for non-exploratory research. Consider the following types of non-
probability samples.
THE QUOTA SAMPLE
The quota sample is the most commonly employed non-probability sampling
procedure. Respondents are selected to reflect proportions in the various
subclasses (or strata) of the population of interest. This might be, for example,
the proportion of the adult population who fall into various age-by-gender-by-
education groupings.
THE JUDGMENT SAMPLE
A somewhat representative sample may be provided through the use of
judgment sampling. Sound judgment and an appropriate strategy are here used
to carefully and consciously choose the elements as you develop a suitable
sample. The intent is to select respondents representative of the population in
such a way that errors of judgment in the selection will cancel each other out.
The advantages of judgment sampling include: it is inexpensive, convenient to
use, less time-consuming, and yields results as good as probability sampling.
One weakness of this approach is that without an objective basis for making the
judgments, there is no way of knowing whether the so-called typical cases are,
in fact, typical.
THE CONVENIENCE SAMPLE
Convenience sampling is a generic term that covers a wide variety of ad hoc
procedures for selecting respondents. Convenience sampling means that the
population is accessible, convenient, easily measured, cooperative and
articulate. An illustration of convenience sampling is the Mall-Intercept method
of interviewing discussed in Chapter 5. Again, the purpose is to obtain a
relatively large number of interviews quickly.
SNOWBALL SAMPLING
Snowball sampling (also known as multiplicity or chain-referral sampling) is
the rather colourful name given to the procedure where initial respondents are
selected randomly, but you collect referrals from the initial group for additional
respondents. One major advantage of snowball sampling is the ability to
estimate various characteristics that are rare in the total population. Zinkhan,
Burton, and Wallendorf (1983) provide a more complete discussion of this
technique.
PROBABILITY SAMPLING
THE SIMPLE RANDOM SAMPLE
In a simple random sample, two conditions exist: each sample element has an
equal probability of selection, and each possible sample of n elements that can
be drawn randomly from the sample frame has an equal probability of being the
sample actually selected. The sample frame is a list containing an exclusive and
exhaustive enumeration of all sample elements. One widely used process for
generating a simple random sample is to upload the elements of the sample
frame to a spreadsheet, number them, and then use the random-number
generator to select the sample members.
THE SYSTEMATIC SAMPLE
Systematic sampling involves only a slight variation from simple random
sampling. The mechanics of taking a systematic sample are rather simple. If the
population contains N ordered elements and a sample size n is desired, one
merely finds the ratio of N/n and rounds to the nearest integer to obtain the
sampling interval. For example, if there are 600 members of the population and
one desires a sample of 60, the sampling interval is 10. A random number is
then selected between 1 and 10, inclusively. Suppose the selected number turns
out to be 4. The analyst then takes as the sample elements 4, 14, 24, and so on.
THE STRATIFIED SAMPLE
It is sometimes desirable to break the population into different strata based on
one or more characteristics, such as the frequency of purchase of a product, type
of purchase (e.g., credit card versus non-credit card), or the industry in which a
company competes. In such cases, a separate sample is then taken from each
stratum. Technically, a stratified random sample is one in which a simple
random sample is taken from each stratum of interest in the population. In
practice, however, systematic and other types of random samples are sometimes
taken from each of the strata. In this case, the resulting design is still referred to
as a stratified sample.
THE CLUSTER SAMPLE
The researcher will ordinarily be interested in the characteristics of some
elementary element in the population such as an individual family. However,
when larger primary sampling units are desired, such as geographic areas,
cluster sampling may be used. For example, the researcher may choose to
sample city blocks and interview all the individual families residing therein. The
blocks, not the individual families, would be selected at random. Each block
consists of a cluster of respondents. The main advantage of a cluster sample
relative to simple random sampling is in lower interviewing costs rather than in
greater reliability
Sources of data
Generally, the first issue in the data collection process is to determine whether
the information needed for the research problem has already been
generated/collected. Only after the assessment of the data already available,
additional data needs should be specified.
All data sources available to the researcher can be classified as either secondary
or primary. Secondary data are already published data collected for purposes
other than the research problem at hand. Primary data are those generated
specifically for the purposes ' of the research problem in question.
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY DATA
The primary data are those which are collected afresh and for the first time,
and thus happen to be original in character. Such data are published by
authorities who themselves are responsible for their collection.
The secondary data, on the other hand, are those which have already been
collected by some other agency and which have already been processed.
Generally speaking, secondary data are information which have previously been
collected by some organisation to satisfy its own need but it is being used by the
department under reference for an entirely different reason. For example, the
census figures are published every tenth year by the Registrar General of India.
But the census figures are also used by demographers and other social scientists
for planning and research. Thus, the officials of the department of Registrar
General will visualise the census figures as primary data. But a demographer
using the same census figures to prepare a mortality table will consider them as
secondary data.
Data Collection tools/instruments
PRIMARY DATA:
Respondents: Respondents represent by far the most important source of
primary marketing data. Marketing decisions are characterised by the fact that
they always involve in one way or the other, prediction of the behaviour of the
market participants- be it consumer, industrial users, marketing intermediaries
or competitors. Decisions as diverse as product introduction, price or channel
modification, determination of the advertising budget or reallocation of sales
territories would require forecasting of the behaviour of one or more of the
above groups. The study of respondents therefore characterises most marketing
research situations.
The type of information that may be collected from respondents may include
data on past behaviour, intentions of likely behaviour, extent of knowledge,
attitudes and opinion and socio-economic characteristics and lifestyle data.
Past behaviour is frequently used as a predictor of future behaviour, acting on
the premise that there is a relatively stable relationship between past and future
behaviour patterns. Information or past behaviour of respondents is sought on
past consumption habits, exposure and awareness of communication tools,
experience of competitor's vis-a vis the company's products or services etc., in
order to get an idea of the consumption of the product or service.
Intention of likely action are self-prediction of planned action to be taken
sometime in future. They represent a very frequently sought information from
the respondent. However, as intention only represent concurrently valid
statements, actual behaviour ma) get modified by changes over which the
respondent has little or no control; for example- price changes or entry of a new
attractive competitive brand. The utility of intentions data is far higher as a
predictive tool, when intentions, given the conditions of purchase can be
assigned probabilities.
Attitudes and opinions represents predisposed mental state to act in a certain
way. For' example, the statement by a respondent that he prefers fresh ground
coffee to the instant" blends, gives a clue to his likely behaviour when faced
with a decision to buy coffee. Attitude research in marketing has found the
greatest use in product designs and advertising. Both qualitative and
quantitative techniques are used to collect information on attitudes and
opinions. They have been discussed under the section *Basic Method of data
collection'
Socio-economic characteristics
Whenever in a consumer research situation there is a basis for the belief that
some socio-economic characteristics like income, education occupational status
etc. are associated with the purchase of a product or service, information is
sought on these characteristics. Study on these types of variables may help
defining the target market more precisely and arriving at more accurate pricing
and promotion decisions.
Simulation: A marketing simulation is an incomplete representation of -the
marketing system or some aspect of the system. It is a relatively new data
source and is largely computer based. It involves the study of dynamics of the
marketing system by manipulating independent variables like marketing mix or
situational factors and observing their influence on the dependent variables. It
would therefore need characteristics of the phenomenon and the relationships
between variables to be represented as data inputs.
Experimentation
Experimentation also represents a fairly rich source of primary data and is used
mostly to study cause and effect relationships among marketing variables.
Marketing experiments are conducted almost like other scientific experiments.
SECONDARY DATA:
Population Statistics
Population statistics in India have been collected, every ten years since 1871-72.
Besides forming a basis for most macro planning estimates, census data in
respect of the marketing research function is the most important source of
national population statistics and its basic characteristics especially
demographic and economic. It provides factual bases for estimation of
consumer demand for various goods and services,
Statistical Abstract of India
Brought out annually by The Central Statistical Organisation, this publication
contains the statistics of various section of the Indian economy for the preceding
five years. State wise, statistics for these economic variables are also furnished
periodically.
Estimation of National Product, 'Savings and Capital formation: (White
paper on National Income)
This is also an annual publication of the Central Statistical Organisation. It
publishes annual estimates, of national income, savings and consumption,
capital formation and expenditure as well as national and public sector accounts.
Monthly Statistics on the Production of Selected Industries
To bridge the gap between the census taken and data published, the
C.S.O.publishes monthly statistics relating to production, installed capacity and
stock positions in selected industries. More than 90 industries are included in
the compilation of chosen statistics.
Trade Statistics
The Department of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics compiles monthly
statistics of commercial intelligence and statistics, publishes data on import and
export of goods in terms of their quantity and value, classified as received from
or sent to centres of consignment. In addition, this publication provides
information on value of foreign trade, balance of trade, foreign trade with each
country and currency area, foreign trade in groups of commodities with each
country and currency area, foreign trade with selected countries etc. It therefore,
furnishes a good source of data for assessment of international market trends
and potential. The Reserve Bank of India also publishes statistics on imports
and exports based on exchange control data.
Methods of data collection
The collection of primary data for business research is of paramount importance
to assist management in making decisions. Generally, information regarding a
large number of characteristics are necessary to analyse any problem pertaining
to management. For instance, a study relating to employment in rural areas
requires data on income, wages, types of crops and land holdings. The
collection of primary data thus requires a great deal of deliberation and
expertise. Depending upon the nature of information necessary the following
methods of collecting primary data are available.
1) Observation Method
The investigator collects the requisite information personally through
observation. For example, in order to study the conditions of students residing
in a university, the investigator meets the students in their hostels and collects
necessary data after a personal study.
Questionnaire Method
A popular and common method of collection of primary data is by personally
interviewing individuals, recording their answers in a structured questionnaire.
The complete enumeration of Indian decennial census is performed by this
method. The enumerators visit the dwellings of individuals and put questions to
them which elicit the relevant information about the subject of enquiry. This
information is recorded in the questionnaire. Occasionally a part of the
questionnaire is unstructured so that the interviewee can feel free to share
information about intimate matters with the interviewer. As the data are
collected by the field staff personally it is also known as personal interview
method.
Mailed Questionnaire Method
A set of questions relevant to subject of enquiry are mailed to a selected list of
persons with a request to return them duly filled in. Supplementary instructions
regarding the definitions of terms used and the methods of filling up the forms
should also accompany the questionnaire. This method can only be used when
the respondents are literate and can answer the questions in writing. The
questions should be very clear without any ambiguity keeping in mind that there
is no investigator to help the respondent
Telephone Interview
This method of collecting information consists in contacting respondents on
telephone itself. This method is inexpensive but limited in scope as respondents
must possess a telephone. The telephone interview method is used in industrial
surveys specially in developed regions.
Data Analysis & Interpretation
Once information is gathered in research, it must be organized. The
organizational strategy can be structured around observation setting, by theme
or variables, or by research questions. The procedures for organizing and
reducing data to a form that can be summarized and utilized are different for
quantitative and qualitative data. For qualitative information, explicit
procedures are used to organize summaries around common themes or
categories and then to identify patterns (content analysis).

APPENDICES
Laminate Brands in India
Sunmica
Sunmica is one of the foremost brands in the Indian Laminate Industry that has
become a household name and has the highest brand recall amongst Indian
customers. In fact when most Indians say 'Sunmica' what they mean to say is
'Laminates'. The two words have become so synonymous with each other in
India.
The Sunmica business division was earlier a part of the Wadia group company,
Bombay Burmah Trading Company. However recently in the year 2011, it has
been acquired by Japanese company AICA that manufactures and markets
various kinds of building materials including laminates. The Sunmica laminate
manufacturing unit in India is located at Rudrapur in the northern state of
Uttaranchal.
Formica
Formica International a US-based company has been the pioneer of the
laminates industry in the world. The company started its operations in the US
and later spread to Europe and Asia. The company operated in India for about
10+ years (from 1963-64 to 1975), after which they had made an exit from the
Indian market.
Formica which is now owned by New Zealand based company Fletcher
Building Products Ltd.has recently made an entry into the Indian market once
again, and has acquired a laminate manufacturing unit at Ahmedabad, in
Gujarat, India.
GreenLam Laminates - from the makers of GreenPly

laminates market in India. Laminates manufactured by Greenply are sold in
India under the brand name of GreenLam Laminates. The company
manufactures decorative laminate sheets at its factories located at Behror in
Rajasthan and at Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh.
Merino Laminates
Merino is the third largest manufacturer of decorative laminates in the world. It
entered the Interior design solutions sector in India in the year 1974, with the
manufacturing of plywood. Soon HPL (High-pressure decorative laminates)
was also added to its product range when the company set-up laminate
manufacturing factories at Hapur and later at Rohad, near Delhi.

industry for over 25 years. The company makes plywood of different grades,

Conclusion
This project was about the laminate segment of Sundek which nowadays the
popularity of sundek is goes down. So in this project different parameters on
consumer buying behaviour are studied and analysed from the dealers and
consumers perspective. The final outcome of the project is that the parameters
which make decision regarding the purchase of laminate are Price, Quality,
Variety, Availability, Advertisement and Awareness.
The laminates industry in India is largely a market segment where customer
involvement and knowledge about the product is very low, with most customers
not being very aware of the various choices available. Usually in India, when
people have any furniture requirements, they just approach the local carpenter in
their area, and ask for a quote.
Due to this lack of end-user awareness prevalent in the plywood and laminate
industry in India, the sales of plywood and laminates are often driven by the
carpenters and the local shopkeepers in the area, and the customers involvement
is usually restricted to choosing a laminate colour and design from the catalogue
that the carpenter brings with him and shows to them
Most of the top laminate brands in India conform to the Indian standards that
are set by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) and which are specified in detail in
the Indian Standard document numbered IS: 2046 -1995. Several Indian
laminate companies also export their products to other countries and conform to
international standards such as the British Standard specifications for laminates.
Other than being overlaid on plywood, the laminates industry also plays an
important role in the case of readymade furniture these days (which is made
using pre-laminated particle boards and MDF).
The combined worth of the plywood and laminates industry is believed to be to
the tune of Rs. 21000 crore per year, with laminates accounting for a share of
approximately Rs.3300 crore, and the industry is expected to keep on growing
further in the years to come
India’s laminates market is valued at Rs. 40 billion in FY12. Organized players
controlled 42% of market with the rest Controlled by un-organized players. It is
expected to grow in line with growth of wood panel market. Organized players
have increased their presence on account of rising aspirations and brand
consciousness. Continuous improvement in quality, reliability, strong
distribution network, cost-effectiveness and brand strategy has enabled Sundek
to increase its market share.

  • 4. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The project was started on 1st of June after knowing all the relevant information about the different Sundek’s laminate available, under the guidance of Mr. Nishant. The first part of my project involves the knowing the consumer behaviour through conducting personal interview and create awareness of Sundek new product. For this I made the questionnaire for conducting personal interviews. At the same time, we were motivate to consumer to buy the laminate. Along with the study of dealers was conducted to better understand the grievances and identify the gaps. For this I visited around 50 outlets in the area, ie, Chandpol, Ajmer road, Sikar road and Tonk road in jaipur and interect to them. I was also supposed to find out new dealers outlets and convince them to sell Sundek’s laminate by showing them the opportunity of getting better experience and increase the customer base. Despite of summer and low demand I was successful in persuading people and a number of new retail sale points were developed.

Scratch Resistance Test: A diamond point is pushed over the laminate to check how resistant it is to scratches and whether it is tough enough to face daily usage. Stain Resistance Test: A variety of chemicals are spilled over and kept for a long time on the surface of the laminate to make sure that it is easy to clean after staining. Crack Resistance Test: The laminate is fixed on a stand at an angle. It is then kept in a heated oven at 1800⁰C for 24 hours to check if laminate cracks in extreme temperatures. Steam Resistance: The laminate is directly exposed to hot steam for one hour and tested for its colour fastness. Ball Impact Resistance Test: A solid ball is thrown on to the laminate with force to check whether the laminate cracks if anything falls on it. It is only after the laminates clear all these tests that they are sent out to the market. Sundek warrants that its products are devoid of any manufacturing defects and meet the promised quality standards Social Commitment We are committed to a clean and green environment: Sundek is committed to the cause of a clean and green environment. Care and Maintenance Cleaning Recommendations:
  • 37. To clean the surface, use a damp cloth or sponge and a mild soap or detergent. Difficult stains such as coffee or tea can be removed using a mild household cleaner and baking soda; mixing to achieve a paste consistency. Use a stiff nylon bristle brush, scrubbing (approx. 15-20 strokes) the affected area. Do not scrub so as to mar (damage, scratch) the surface finish. Stubborn stains that resist any of the above cleaning methods may require the use of undiluted household bleach or nail polish remover. Use a cotton ball saturated with bleach or nail polish remover; gently rub the stain for up to two minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and wipe dry using a soft cloth. This step may be repeated if the stain appears to be going away and the colour of the laminate has not been affected. Note 1: Long exposure of the laminate surface to bleach will cause discoloration. Always rinse laminate surfaces after cleaning. Failure to rinse after cleaning can cause damage; even if a small amount of cleaning solution remains on the surface. A dry residue may be invisible; however, moisture from cups or drinks can reactivate it, and result in permanently etched scars or stains over time. Note 2: Acidic or abrasive cleaners can damage laminate surfaces; do not use them. Drain cleaners containing lye will permanently damage the laminate surface. If you spill a drain cleaner, wipe it up immediately and rinse several times with water. Hair, textile and food dyes can cause permanent stains. If dye should happen to spill, wipe it up immediately with dishwashing detergent or an all-purpose cleaner. Wipe spills away promptly and rinse several times with water. Rust removers contain harsh chemicals, which will quickly cause permanent damage. If a spill occurs, wipe off all residues immediately, wash thoroughly with soapy water and rinse several times. Steel wool and other abrasive pads will damage the laminate face. Do not use them for cleaning and don’t store steel wool pads on your countertop; the metal can rust and leave stains. Toilet bowl cleaners contain harsh chemicals that can cause permanent damage. If spills occur, wipe up immediately, wash surface with soapy water and rinse several times.
  • 38. Note 3: Harsh chemicals like Hydrochloric Acid, Sulphuric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, etc. Cause damage to the surface. Note 4: Remember, sharp objects can damage the surface of Sundek Laminate, marring its beauty and lowering wear and stain resistance. Although high pressure laminates are somewhat resistant to scratch and marring, the surface can be damaged, even under normal use. Note 5: Sundek laminate may need occasional dusting depending on where it’s used. To keep the surface beautiful, use a non-oily furniture spray. (Remember to clean the spray off several times a year to prevent build-up.) Furniture polish can also help hide fine scratches in the surface. • 44.  Importance of laminates in furniture: For most people, good furniture is a luxury that comes from hard-earned money. The cost of laminates is a very small part of the total cost of furniture. Yet, the final look of the furniture depends entirely on the quality of the laminates. Furniture with poor quality laminates usually begins to look old in a short time. As a result, one has to either bear the cost of new furniture again or live with shabby furniture. Such a situation can be easily prevented by using laminates coated with an Anti-Ageing Formula.  What skin is to human body, laminates are to furniture: laminates provide total protection to the furniture against all kinds of physical, chemical, weather and other ravages of the environment. Hence, it is very important to only use laminates which are coated with an Anti-Ageing Formula to keep your furniture looking new for a longer period of time. Trying to economise on your choice of laminates is a direct risk to the look and age of your furniture.  How to choose a good laminate: Be aware! They all look the same! Purchasing good quality laminates is not an easy job as those with poor quality look rich on the surface. Therefore purchasing laminates on the basis of cost is risky as you may land up buying poor quality laminates. This will make your new furniture look shabby within a short time. It is recommended to be careful during the selection of laminates and purchase only those coated with an Anti-Ageing Formula. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Research Design
  • 45. Research is an art of scientific investigation through search for new facts in Any branch of knowledge. It is a moment from known to unknown. The American Marketing Association (AMA) redefined Marketing Research as: ―Marketing Research is function that link consumer, the customer and marketer through information used to identify and define market opportunities and problems Generate, refine, and evaluate marketing performance, Monitor marketing performance, improve understanding of marketing as a process.‖ Marketing research is the systematic and objective  identification  collection  analysis  dissemination  and use of information For the purpose of improving decision making related to the  identification and  solution of problems and opportunities in marketing Research always starts with a question or a problem. Its purpose is to find answers to questions through the application of the scientific method. It is a systematic and intensive study directed towards a more complete knowledge of the subject studied. As marketing does not address itself to basic or fundamental question, it Does not qualify as basic research. On the contrary, it tackles problems, Which seem to have immediate commercial potential. In view of the major Consideration, marketing research should be regarded as applied research. We may also say that marketing research is of both types problem solving and problem oriented. Marketing research is as systematic and objectives study of the problems pertaining to the marketing of the goods and services. It may be emphasized that it is not restricted to any particular area of marketing, but is applied to
  • 46. all the phases and aspects. Sampling Design Whom to collect data from choosing the sample of respondents by studying a sub-group of population the characterties of the population of the population can be ascertained. While deciding to use sampling the of how many units to study arise because the repetiline pattern in a population usually makes it unnecessary to check it out its entirely Once a sufficiently large scale group or sample has been approached the pattern will demonstrate its all and another equally large sup- group will not throw up a significant difference The target population is the collection of elements or objects that possess the information sought by the researcher and about which inferences are to be made. The target population should be defined in terms of elements, sampling units, extent, and time. • An element is the object about which or from which the information is desired, e.g., the respondent. • A sampling unit is an element, or a unit containing the element, that is available for selection at some stage of the sampling process. • Extent refers to the geographical boundaries. Time is the time period under consideration. Your marketing research project will rarely examine an entire population. It’s more practical to use a sample—a smaller but accurate representation of the greater population. In order to design your sample, you must find answers to these questions: 1. From which base population is the sample to be selected? 2. What is the method (process) for sample selection? 3. What is the size of the sample?
  • 47. Once you’ve established who the relevant population is (completed in the problem formulation stage), you have a base for your sample. This will allow you to make inferences about a larger population. There are two methods of selecting a sample from a population: probability or non-probability sampling. The probability method relies on a random sampling of everyone within the larger population. Non-probability is based in part on the judgment of the investigator, and often employs convenience samples, or by other sampling methods that do not rely on probability. The final stage of the sample design involves determining the appropriate sample size. This important step involves cost and accuracy decisions. Larger samples generally reduce sampling error and increase accuracy, but also increase costs. TYPE OF SAMPLE In behavioural sciences research, samples are most often selected by the investigator’s judgment, convenience, or other non-probabilistic (non-random) processes. In contrast, probability samples offer the promise of bias-free selection and permit the measurement of sampling error. Non-probability samples offer neither of these features. In non-probability sampling, you have to trust that the researcher had the knowledge and resources to select an unbiased sample. THE SAMPLING UNIT A sampling unit is a unit of the population chosen during the sampling process. The sampling unit may contain one or more elements describing the population. For instance, a group medical practice may be interested in surveying past patient behaviour of the male wage earner or his entire household. In either case, it may be preferable to select a sample of households as sampling units. THE SAMPLING FRAME A sample frame is a physical listing of elements within the population. The frame helps you to identify, assess, and select the elements to be considered in the population. When a list doesn’t actually exist, the sampling frame would be the procedure producing a list. Ideally, the sample frame should identify each population element only once and avoid elements not in the defined population. Of course, such a perfect frame is rarely available for behavioural research purposes. As shown in Figure 7.1, a sampling frame may be incomplete, too comprehensive, or a combination of both. In addition, the frame may include individual population elements more than once. Any of these situations can lead to coverage error.
  • 48. SAMPLE SIZE Sample size is related to precision. Three traditional approaches can help decide the size for any given research project: 1. Arbitrarily or judgmentally determined 2. Minimum cell size needed for analysis 3. Budget-based Once the data has been collected using one of these approaches, precision can be estimated by applying the appropriate standard error formula or formulas. A fourth approach would involve specifying your desired precision before sampling and then applying the appropriate standard error formula to determine the sample size. COSTS OF SAMPLING The plan must account for the estimated costs of sampling. There are two traditional cost categories: overhead costs, which are relatively fixed for a sampling procedure, and variable costs, which depend on the number of respondents contacted and interviewed in the study. In reality, costs of the whole data collection process are usually considered together. The dashed lines in Figure 7.1 indicate that sample design and sample size are usually considered together. If the estimated costs are too large, you may consider either another sample design and/or smaller-sized samples. NON-PROBABILITY SAMPLING PROCEDURES Non-probability sampling is distinguished from probability sampling in that non-probability sample elements do not have a known, nonzero chance of being selected for the sample. As such, sampling error generally cannot be measured. Non-probability samples are widely used in exploratory research, but are also valuable for non-exploratory research. Consider the following types of non- probability samples. THE QUOTA SAMPLE The quota sample is the most commonly employed non-probability sampling procedure. Respondents are selected to reflect proportions in the various subclasses (or strata) of the population of interest. This might be, for example, the proportion of the adult population who fall into various age-by-gender-by- education groupings.
  • 49. THE JUDGMENT SAMPLE A somewhat representative sample may be provided through the use of judgment sampling. Sound judgment and an appropriate strategy are here used to carefully and consciously choose the elements as you develop a suitable sample. The intent is to select respondents representative of the population in such a way that errors of judgment in the selection will cancel each other out. The advantages of judgment sampling include: it is inexpensive, convenient to use, less time-consuming, and yields results as good as probability sampling. One weakness of this approach is that without an objective basis for making the judgments, there is no way of knowing whether the so-called typical cases are, in fact, typical. THE CONVENIENCE SAMPLE Convenience sampling is a generic term that covers a wide variety of ad hoc procedures for selecting respondents. Convenience sampling means that the population is accessible, convenient, easily measured, cooperative and articulate. An illustration of convenience sampling is the Mall-Intercept method of interviewing discussed in Chapter 5. Again, the purpose is to obtain a relatively large number of interviews quickly. SNOWBALL SAMPLING Snowball sampling (also known as multiplicity or chain-referral sampling) is the rather colourful name given to the procedure where initial respondents are selected randomly, but you collect referrals from the initial group for additional respondents. One major advantage of snowball sampling is the ability to estimate various characteristics that are rare in the total population. Zinkhan, Burton, and Wallendorf (1983) provide a more complete discussion of this technique. PROBABILITY SAMPLING THE SIMPLE RANDOM SAMPLE In a simple random sample, two conditions exist: each sample element has an equal probability of selection, and each possible sample of n elements that can be drawn randomly from the sample frame has an equal probability of being the
  • 50. sample actually selected. The sample frame is a list containing an exclusive and exhaustive enumeration of all sample elements. One widely used process for generating a simple random sample is to upload the elements of the sample frame to a spreadsheet, number them, and then use the random-number generator to select the sample members. THE SYSTEMATIC SAMPLE Systematic sampling involves only a slight variation from simple random sampling. The mechanics of taking a systematic sample are rather simple. If the population contains N ordered elements and a sample size n is desired, one merely finds the ratio of N/n and rounds to the nearest integer to obtain the sampling interval. For example, if there are 600 members of the population and one desires a sample of 60, the sampling interval is 10. A random number is then selected between 1 and 10, inclusively. Suppose the selected number turns out to be 4. The analyst then takes as the sample elements 4, 14, 24, and so on. THE STRATIFIED SAMPLE It is sometimes desirable to break the population into different strata based on one or more characteristics, such as the frequency of purchase of a product, type of purchase (e.g., credit card versus non-credit card), or the industry in which a company competes. In such cases, a separate sample is then taken from each stratum. Technically, a stratified random sample is one in which a simple random sample is taken from each stratum of interest in the population. In practice, however, systematic and other types of random samples are sometimes taken from each of the strata. In this case, the resulting design is still referred to as a stratified sample. THE CLUSTER SAMPLE The researcher will ordinarily be interested in the characteristics of some elementary element in the population such as an individual family. However, when larger primary sampling units are desired, such as geographic areas, cluster sampling may be used. For example, the researcher may choose to sample city blocks and interview all the individual families residing therein. The blocks, not the individual families, would be selected at random. Each block consists of a cluster of respondents. The main advantage of a cluster sample relative to simple random sampling is in lower interviewing costs rather than in greater reliability Sources of data
  • 51. Generally, the first issue in the data collection process is to determine whether the information needed for the research problem has already been generated/collected. Only after the assessment of the data already available, additional data needs should be specified. All data sources available to the researcher can be classified as either secondary or primary. Secondary data are already published data collected for purposes other than the research problem at hand. Primary data are those generated specifically for the purposes ' of the research problem in question. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY DATA The primary data are those which are collected afresh and for the first time, and thus happen to be original in character. Such data are published by authorities who themselves are responsible for their collection. The secondary data, on the other hand, are those which have already been collected by some other agency and which have already been processed. Generally speaking, secondary data are information which have previously been collected by some organisation to satisfy its own need but it is being used by the department under reference for an entirely different reason. For example, the census figures are published every tenth year by the Registrar General of India. But the census figures are also used by demographers and other social scientists for planning and research. Thus, the officials of the department of Registrar General will visualise the census figures as primary data. But a demographer using the same census figures to prepare a mortality table will consider them as secondary data. Data Collection tools/instruments PRIMARY DATA: Respondents: Respondents represent by far the most important source of primary marketing data. Marketing decisions are characterised by the fact that they always involve in one way or the other, prediction of the behaviour of the market participants- be it consumer, industrial users, marketing intermediaries or competitors. Decisions as diverse as product introduction, price or channel
  • 52. modification, determination of the advertising budget or reallocation of sales territories would require forecasting of the behaviour of one or more of the above groups. The study of respondents therefore characterises most marketing research situations. The type of information that may be collected from respondents may include data on past behaviour, intentions of likely behaviour, extent of knowledge, attitudes and opinion and socio-economic characteristics and lifestyle data. Past behaviour is frequently used as a predictor of future behaviour, acting on the premise that there is a relatively stable relationship between past and future behaviour patterns. Information or past behaviour of respondents is sought on past consumption habits, exposure and awareness of communication tools, experience of competitor's vis-a vis the company's products or services etc., in order to get an idea of the consumption of the product or service. Intention of likely action are self-prediction of planned action to be taken sometime in future. They represent a very frequently sought information from the respondent. However, as intention only represent concurrently valid statements, actual behaviour ma) get modified by changes over which the respondent has little or no control; for example- price changes or entry of a new attractive competitive brand. The utility of intentions data is far higher as a predictive tool, when intentions, given the conditions of purchase can be assigned probabilities. Attitudes and opinions represents predisposed mental state to act in a certain way. For' example, the statement by a respondent that he prefers fresh ground coffee to the instant" blends, gives a clue to his likely behaviour when faced with a decision to buy coffee. Attitude research in marketing has found the greatest use in product designs and advertising. Both qualitative and quantitative techniques are used to collect information on attitudes and opinions. They have been discussed under the section *Basic Method of data collection' Socio-economic characteristics Whenever in a consumer research situation there is a basis for the belief that some socio-economic characteristics like income, education occupational status etc. are associated with the purchase of a product or service, information is sought on these characteristics. Study on these types of variables may help defining the target market more precisely and arriving at more accurate pricing and promotion decisions.
  • 53. Simulation: A marketing simulation is an incomplete representation of -the marketing system or some aspect of the system. It is a relatively new data source and is largely computer based. It involves the study of dynamics of the marketing system by manipulating independent variables like marketing mix or situational factors and observing their influence on the dependent variables. It would therefore need characteristics of the phenomenon and the relationships between variables to be represented as data inputs. Experimentation Experimentation also represents a fairly rich source of primary data and is used mostly to study cause and effect relationships among marketing variables. Marketing experiments are conducted almost like other scientific experiments. SECONDARY DATA: Population Statistics Population statistics in India have been collected, every ten years since 1871-72. Besides forming a basis for most macro planning estimates, census data in respect of the marketing research function is the most important source of national population statistics and its basic characteristics especially demographic and economic. It provides factual bases for estimation of consumer demand for various goods and services, Statistical Abstract of India Brought out annually by The Central Statistical Organisation, this publication contains the statistics of various section of the Indian economy for the preceding five years. State wise, statistics for these economic variables are also furnished periodically. Estimation of National Product, 'Savings and Capital formation: (White paper on National Income) This is also an annual publication of the Central Statistical Organisation. It publishes annual estimates, of national income, savings and consumption, capital formation and expenditure as well as national and public sector accounts. Monthly Statistics on the Production of Selected Industries To bridge the gap between the census taken and data published, the C.S.O.publishes monthly statistics relating to production, installed capacity and stock positions in selected industries. More than 90 industries are included in the compilation of chosen statistics. Trade Statistics
  • 54. The Department of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics compiles monthly statistics of commercial intelligence and statistics, publishes data on import and export of goods in terms of their quantity and value, classified as received from or sent to centres of consignment. In addition, this publication provides information on value of foreign trade, balance of trade, foreign trade with each country and currency area, foreign trade in groups of commodities with each country and currency area, foreign trade with selected countries etc. It therefore, furnishes a good source of data for assessment of international market trends and potential. The Reserve Bank of India also publishes statistics on imports and exports based on exchange control data. Methods of data collection The collection of primary data for business research is of paramount importance to assist management in making decisions. Generally, information regarding a large number of characteristics are necessary to analyse any problem pertaining to management. For instance, a study relating to employment in rural areas requires data on income, wages, types of crops and land holdings. The collection of primary data thus requires a great deal of deliberation and expertise. Depending upon the nature of information necessary the following methods of collecting primary data are available. 1) Observation Method The investigator collects the requisite information personally through observation. For example, in order to study the conditions of students residing in a university, the investigator meets the students in their hostels and collects necessary data after a personal study. Questionnaire Method A popular and common method of collection of primary data is by personally interviewing individuals, recording their answers in a structured questionnaire. The complete enumeration of Indian decennial census is performed by this method. The enumerators visit the dwellings of individuals and put questions to them which elicit the relevant information about the subject of enquiry. This information is recorded in the questionnaire. Occasionally a part of the questionnaire is unstructured so that the interviewee can feel free to share information about intimate matters with the interviewer. As the data are collected by the field staff personally it is also known as personal interview method.
  • 55. Mailed Questionnaire Method A set of questions relevant to subject of enquiry are mailed to a selected list of persons with a request to return them duly filled in. Supplementary instructions regarding the definitions of terms used and the methods of filling up the forms should also accompany the questionnaire. This method can only be used when the respondents are literate and can answer the questions in writing. The questions should be very clear without any ambiguity keeping in mind that there is no investigator to help the respondent Telephone Interview This method of collecting information consists in contacting respondents on telephone itself. This method is inexpensive but limited in scope as respondents must possess a telephone. The telephone interview method is used in industrial surveys specially in developed regions. Data Analysis & Interpretation Once information is gathered in research, it must be organized. The organizational strategy can be structured around observation setting, by theme or variables, or by research questions. The procedures for organizing and reducing data to a form that can be summarized and utilized are different for quantitative and qualitative data. For qualitative information, explicit procedures are used to organize summaries around common themes or categories and then to identify patterns (content analysis). • 78. Conclusion This project was about the laminate segment of Sundek which nowadays the popularity of sundek is goes down. So in this project different parameters on consumer buying behaviour are studied and analysed from the dealers and consumers perspective. The final outcome of the project is that the parameters which make decision regarding the purchase of laminate are Price, Quality, Variety, Availability, Advertisement and Awareness. The laminates industry in India is largely a market segment where customer involvement and knowledge about the product is very low, with most customers not being very aware of the various choices available. Usually in India, when people have any furniture requirements, they just approach the local carpenter in their area, and ask for a quote. Due to this lack of end-user awareness prevalent in the plywood and laminate industry in India, the sales of plywood and laminates are often driven by the carpenters and the local shopkeepers in the area, and the customers involvement is usually restricted to choosing a laminate colour and design from the catalogue that the carpenter brings with him and shows to them Most of the top laminate brands in India conform to the Indian standards that are set by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) and which are specified in detail in the Indian Standard document numbered IS: 2046 -1995. Several Indian laminate companies also export their products to other countries and conform to international standards such as the British Standard specifications for laminates. Other than being overlaid on plywood, the laminates industry also plays an important role in the case of readymade furniture these days (which is made using pre-laminated particle boards and MDF). The combined worth of the plywood and laminates industry is believed to be to the tune of Rs. 21000 crore per year, with laminates accounting for a share of approximately Rs.3300 crore, and the industry is expected to keep on growing further in the years to come India’s laminates market is valued at Rs. 40 billion in FY12. Organized players controlled 42% of market with the rest Controlled by un-organized players. It is expected to grow in line with growth of wood panel market. Organized players have increased their presence on account of rising aspirations and brand consciousness. Continuous improvement in quality, reliability, strong
