5 Steps to Transform into a Data-Driven Organization - Ganes Kesari - Gramen...Ganes Kesari
This session was presented on May 27th, 2021, in a Webinar organized by Gramener.
https://info.gramener.com/5-steps-to-transform-into-data-driven-organization
Session Details:
Today, organizations struggle to get value from data despite significant investments. Did you know that there's one factor that influences the outcomes of all your data initiatives?
This webinar will highlight how an organization's data maturity influences its performance. It will show how you can assess your data maturity and plan the five steps for data-driven business transformation.
Pain points we would be discussing:
Most organizations stagnate midway in their data journey.
Gartner says that over 87% of organizations in the industry are at lower levels of data maturity (levels 1 and 2 on a scale of 5).
Just doing more data science projects will not improve your capabilities or outcomes. The fact is that the top challenges reported by CDOs fall into five common areas.
This webinar will show what they are and how you can tackle them.
Who should attend
- Executives, Chief Data/Analytics Officers, Technology leaders, Business heads, Managers
What Will You Learn?
- What is data science maturity, and why does it matter?
- How do you assess data science maturity and limitations of the assessment?
- How can data science maturity help your organization level up (explained with an example)?
The key to the cognitive business is putting data to work. What is needed is a platform, an ecosystem, and a method.

2014 MITX Data & Analytics Summit
"Leveraging Self-Service Business Intelligence to Drive Marketing Analytics & Insight"
Speaker: Carmen Taglienti (@carmtag), Business Intelligence & Data Management Practice Lead, Slalom Consulting
Advancements in the BI technology ecosystem and the application of these capabilities to marketing analytics has enabled better, faster, and more accurate insight. In addition to the advancements in technology, marketing organizations look to embrace analytics and put the tools that support them into the hands of the decision makers in a “self-service” way. Typically organizations adopt analytics (and the supporting technology) across the enterprise according to the principles of "the analytics driven organization." This session will introduce an Analytics Maturity model that enables an analytics-driven marketing organization to assess current proficiencies, and understand the capabilities required to achieve its desired state of analytics maturity. This discussion will also cover the alignment of technology solutions at the various levels of the Analytics Maturity model, as well as the drive toward “self-service,” easy to use analytics. Finally, the presenter will demonstrate the use of real-time data acquisition and analytics to drive marketing insight.

Big Data LDN 2018: CONNECTING SILOS IN REAL-TIME WITH DATA VIRTUALIZATIONMatt Stubbs
Date: 14th November 2018
Location: Keynote Theatre
Time: 13:50 - 14:20
Speaker: Becky Smith
Organisation: Denodo
About: How many users inside and outside of your organization access your organization’s data? Dozens? Hundreds is probably more like it, each with their own structure and content requirements as well as different access rights. As a result, many organizations have witnessed the formation of “data delivery mills,” in various shapes and sizes. How does one create order and reliability in this world of chaotic data streams? Quite easily, if it’s done with data virtualization.
According to Gartner, "through 2020, 50% of enterprises will implement some form of data virtualization as one enterprise production option for data integration.” Data virtualization enables organizations to gain data insights from multiple, distributed data sources without the time-consuming processes of data extraction and loading. This allows for faster insights and fact-based decisions, which help business realize value sooner.
Join us to find out more about:
• What data virtualization actually means and how it differs from traditional data integration approaches.
• How you can connect and combine all your data in real-time, without compromising on scalability, security or governance.
• The benefits of data virtualization and its most important use cases.
An interview with Jack Levis, Director of Process Management at UPS.
"Our challenge hasn’t been around identifying analytics talent as much as it has been in determining the best way to train the hundreds of business people who are using these tools."

Data is the new oil! For most enterprises, data is the oil you’ve been sitting on without realizing its value. You can gain many useful insights from data that lead to new and better products and operations, enables new user experiences, allows better understanding of customers, makes interactions seamless and enables new pay per use business models and dynamic pricing models. Furthermore, data itself can be monetized. Enterprises can broker interactions between end users as done in digital advertising or sell insights to third parties in anonymized forms. Just like in Google and Facebook, data can be a primary asset that organizations collect as part of their operations.
Data is cheap; strategy still matters by Jason LeeData Con LA
Abstract:- What could a Strategy Consulting firm have to do with or say about big data? We see Big Data leading the way on new products but also disrupting our clients business processes and business models. For many clients and big data fans, the temptation is to think big data and machine learning disrupt the need for strategy. Just throw the data in the lake and a bunch of programmers with machine learning fishing poles and we will be done. Here is a rapid-fire review of what really happens Use case 1: Use case 2: Use case 3: What did we learn working with these clients? Strategy still matters: Data is cheap; attention is not. While data and computational power are increasingly plentiful, people have limited attention and energy. Complexity can kill not so much in the model itself but in how it affects processes and decisions. Data is not so cheap after all. We continue to underappreciate data architecture, governance, and engineering. These frequently take up most of the effort required for analytics success. Winning with Big Data is often less about the latest technology platform but in our strategy, culture, organizational capabilities, the way we implement algorithms, how we make decisions with data, and the impacts these have on employees and customers.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

13. Manufacturing And Logistics – Predictive Part Failure
Use Case: Airline Maintenance Dashboard alerting station manager of likelihood of maintenance issues on specific
aircraft, when they arrive and is the part in stock or not.
Impact: Whether it vehicles transporting goods, service or people; or machines on a plant floor, predicting the
likelihood of part failure keeps operations running smoothly and improves service and saves on costs
14. Healthcare – Patient Volume and Staffing
Use Case: One of a Hospital’s biggest areas of expense are labor costs that are directly related to patient volume.
Patient volume is impacted by a number of factors, CDC Alerts, Weather conditions, Lunar Cycles, Special events
etc.
Impact: Predicting patient volume can help the hospital optimize staffing levels, which helps better manage labor
costs and improves the patients overall experience because they are less likely to wait for service.
15. Healthcare – Predictive Readmission Performance
Use Case: Predict and Score Patients Most Likely to Readmit based on Previous Clinical History based on Demographics, Consumer
Habits and Clinical Factors
Impact: Per CMS readmissions within 30 days for many conditions will not reimbursed therefore it is incumbent on hospitals to
proactively reduce readmissions and ED “Frequent Flyers.” Improved discharge procedures and transitions to post acute care.
16. Insurance - Claim Analysis and Fraud Detection
Use Case: Both Warranty and Insurance Claims have a mix of structured and unstructured data that are useful for identifying fraud
Impact: Being able use both types of data in your analysis will help organizations become more efficient in
identifying possible fraud or abuse.
17. Higher Education – Student Retention
Use Case: Successful enrollment management includes retaining current students. Often institutions have not used available data to
understand who stays and who leaves.
Impact: The ability to identify and develop profiles of students who are most likely to leave your school and then recommend
intervention strategies to reduce student attrition
18. Government - Predictive Policing
Use Case: Local agencies such as police departments can leverage advanced, real-time analytics to provide actionable
intelligence.
Impact: Understand criminal behavior, identify crime/incident patterns, and uncover location-based threats.
