Preface
Currently I am pursuing Master’s Degree in Business Administration in APG Shimla
University, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. I had to conduct an eight weeks summer internship when
I completed my 2nd semester. I preferred Delhi to do my summer internship, though I am from
Kerala. Because I wanted to benefit from the experience I will possibly get in Delhi.
I have got six months work experience in a furniture company in Kerala even before I
joined for MBA program. I wanted to learn new things and get some new experience. I wanted to
improve my communication skills and develop new sets of skills.
In this internship report I will write my experiences during my internship period. The
internship report contains an overview of the internship company and the activities, tasks and
that I have done on during my internship. Writing this report, I also will describe and reflect my
learning and observations that I got during my internship period.

1. Introduction
1.1 Internship Overview
This internship in British College was an amazing experience in my life. It could give me
the exposure that I would have never got in my life. During the talks about my internship with
Mr. Nilesh Tadnan, I could clearly understand what I was supposed to do. But after few days
from the commencement of the internship, my job was changed from conducting market survey
to an office assistant.
I was going to field and meeting students in Delhi. I talked to them and was convincing
them to participate in the market survey I was conducting. But after the change in my job, my job
was mostly inside the office of British College. In fact, I was assisting the Managing Director in
doing some paper works.
As part of my work, I have been to many new places in Delhi & NCR; I met new people
and obviously learned many new things that I have included in this report.

3.Work Profile
3.1 Database Marketing Analyst
Customers of British College are mostly students in Delhi & NCR. It is very clear that
contact information of such students has important role in the marketing efforts of the company
since British College is providing mainly educational services. Once the company got contact
details of, say, 500 students interested in the services provided by the company, it is easy to sell
their services to those students.
British College hired me as an intern to conduct a market survey among the students in
various universities, colleges and educational institutes in and around Delhi. On the 7th day of the
internship, I was given a market survey questionnaire which I was supposed to get filled by the
students in and around Delhi.
The aim of the market survey was to find out whether students in Delhi & NCR interested
in the services offered by British College. But it was obvious that literally the company wanted
contacted information of students in the target market. So that they can contact these students
later to market their services such as IELTS, and Indian& British qualifications via SMS and
Telemarketing.
My task was to talk to students in the target area, Delhi & NCR, and convince the
students to fill the questionnaire. As part of the market survey, I visited Delhi University, Jamia
Milia Islmia and Akash Institute. I met students there and talked to them about the survey I was
conducting and communicated the benefits of participating in the survey. That was the way I
convincing students to participate.
As far as I was concerned, I could convince approximately 130 students to fill the
questionnaire. The number is very less since I did market survey only for 5-7 days over my two
months internship. When I approach a student, initially he refuse since the survey form was little
lengthy. But after my interesting explanation about British College and its services, students
show interest to fill the survey questionnaire. Some students even called up their friends to
participate in the survey.
After the market survey, I was asked to feed the survey data into a spreadsheet so that the
company can easily find out students interested in particular service offered by the company by
using Microsoft Office Excel tools. Then they can contact a student via phone, SMS or email to
make an appointment with the counselor.
A part of the spreadsheet and survey questionnaire is attached with this report.

3.2 Office Assistant
Right after one week of doing market survey, the office assistant in British College left
her job because of some reason. Then the managing director requested me to temporarily stop
market survey to do the tasks of Office Assistant. I was happy to accept such an interesting
opportunity.
From the next week onwards, I was supposed to stop the market survey permanently
since there was lots paper works to do in the company. As an office assistant, I started my first
few days by scanning and printing client documents and transcripts. But slowly my responsibility
stared increasing.
My jobs were mostly related to admissions abroad. I was supposed to provide assistance
to Mr. Puneet Sawhney, Managing Director. I was filling out application forms of students from
various parts of North India, especially Punjab for admissions to universities in UK, USA,
Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Singapore, and Spain.
I was given the passport, academic certificates, and personal information of the
applicants. My task was to download, print, fill, scan and sending it to the university along with
the required documents. Usually universities require passport, academic certificates and English
language test result preferably IELTS. Then university provides a Conditional Offer Letter.
Students who got Conditional Offer Letter can then pay fees and other required documents such
as Bank Balance Certificate, Birth Certificate, and Medical Certificate etc. with Apostille to get
Unconditional Offer Letter
Apostille is necessary on all original documents sending to the university. It is similar to
a notary attestation but Apostille is valid all over the world. Embassies accept only those
documents with Apostille. Indian Apostille is accepted in all countries except Germany. For
Apostille, the company was forwarding the documents to AVS Global Services, situated in
Barakhamba Road, New Delhi. I was responsible for sending the document, follow up and
receiving them in two-three days.
I also had to translate birth certificates and medical certificates of two students into
Spanish since they were applying for higher studies from a college in Spain. To translate, I met
Mr. Anil Dogra, Coordinator of European Linguistic Studies in Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Some universities in Spain ask some of the important documents to be translated into Spanish.
Some errors also took place in my jobs. When I was forwarding a document’s scanned
copy to one university, the document was not properly scanned. But fortunately my boss found it
in the final verification. On the spot, boss gave me an advice to properly scan any document and
check out the scanned file before forwarding it to anyone.

4.Learning
Two months of internship in British College gave me amazing experience. Even though
my internship was not related to my specialization, as far I was working in the company, I
learned many things from my observations. I was trying to connect what I learned from books
with real life organizational environment.
During my initial days in the survey, I found students were not interested in participating
in the survey. They looked at the time it takes to fill up the questionnaire. Hence I was coming
back to room with empty survey forms. But gradually I learned to communicate with students
properly. I started explaining about British College, their services, the benefits of the
participating in the survey etc. I started approaching students sitting as a group. I changed the
answer “No” into “Yes”.
I could understand that, people are ready to listen to us only if they are going to be
benefitted ultimately. So, it is important for a marketer in communicate how a potential customer
is going to be benefitted by using his/her product or service. Then only people start listening to
him/her.
From my observations in the early morning inside the office, I could see every staff is
complaining each other about the bad decisions taken by their boss or bad experiences with the
managing director. British College is a small organization employing only 20 – 25 staffs. But a
small kind of organizational politics was obvious there. Some employees have conflicts with the
interests of the others. I could see a lack of proper human resource management there.
I could see that most of the employees are not actually committed to the organizational
objectives. Rather they are demotivated because of several reasons. One of the major reasons
behind the disappointment can be the delay in the payment of salary. It was clear that British
College’s finance department is not effective. They are unable to speed up cash inflow. Major
revenue of British College is the commission given from foreign universities based on the
number of students enrolled through British College. It usually takes 1-2 months to receive the
commission after the student enrollment.
Finance department is unable to pay employee salary and other debts on the agreed date
because of the above mentioned reason. But they can solve this problem by using some cash
management tools such as cashflow statement. They should manage their cash inflow properly. It
requires an efficient finance team.

  • 6. Summer Internship Report 6 | P a g e 1. Introduction 1.1 Internship Overview This internship in British College was an amazing experience in my life. It could give me the exposure that I would have never got in my life. During the talks about my internship with Mr. Nilesh Tadnan, I could clearly understand what I was supposed to do. But after few days from the commencement of the internship, my job was changed from conducting market survey to an office assistant. I was going to field and meeting students in Delhi. • 13. Summer Internship Report 13 | P a g e 3.Work Profile 3.1 Database Marketing Analyst Customers of British College are mostly students in Delhi & NCR. It is very clear that contact information of such students has important role in the marketing efforts of the company since British College is providing mainly educational services. Once the company got contact details of, say, 500 students interested in the services provided by the company, it is easy to sell their services to those students. British College hired me as an intern to conduct a market survey among the students in various universities, colleges and educational institutes in and around Delhi. On the 7th day of the internship, I was given a market survey questionnaire which I was supposed to get filled by the students in and around Delhi. The aim of the market survey was to find out whether students in Delhi & NCR interested in the services offered by British College. But it was obvious that literally the company wanted contacted information of students in the target market. So that they can contact these students later to market their services such as IELTS, and Indian& British qualifications via SMS and Telemarketing. My task was to talk to students in the target area, Delhi & NCR, and convince the students to fill the questionnaire. As part of the market survey, I visited Delhi University, Jamia Milia Islmia and Akash Institute. I met students there and talked to them about the survey I was conducting and communicated the benefits of participating in the survey. That was the way I convincing students to participate. As far as I was concerned, I could convince approximately 130 students to fill the questionnaire. The number is very less since I did market survey only for 5-7 days over my two months internship. When I approach a student, initially he refuse since the survey form was little lengthy. But after my interesting explanation about British College and its services, students show interest to fill the survey questionnaire. Some students even called up their friends to participate in the survey. After the market survey, I was asked to feed the survey data into a spreadsheet so that the company can easily find out students interested in particular service offered by the company by using Microsoft Office Excel tools. Then they can contact a student via phone, SMS or email to make an appointment with the counselor. A part of the spreadsheet and survey questionnaire is attached with this report.

Then the managing director requested me to temporarily stop market survey to do the tasks of Office Assistant. I was happy to accept such an interesting opportunity. From the next week onwards, I was supposed to stop the market survey permanently since there was lots paper works to do in the company. As an office assistant, I started my first few days by scanning and printing client documents and transcripts. But slowly my responsibility stared increasing. My jobs were mostly related to admissions abroad. I was supposed to provide assistance to Mr. Puneet Sawhney, Managing Director. I was filling out application forms of students from various parts of North India, especially Punjab for admissions to universities in UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Singapore, and Spain. I was given the passport, academic certificates, and personal information of the applicants. My task was to download, print, fill, scan and sending it to the university along with the required documents. Usually universities require passport, academic certificates and English language test result preferably IELTS. Then university provides a Conditional Offer Letter. Students who got Conditional Offer Letter can then pay fees and other required documents such as Bank Balance Certificate, Birth Certificate, and Medical Certificate etc. with Apostille to get Unconditional Offer Letter Apostille is necessary on all original documents sending to the university. It is similar to a notary attestation but Apostille is valid all over the world. Embassies accept only those documents with Apostille. Indian Apostille is accepted in all countries except Germany. For Apostille, the company was forwarding the documents to AVS Global Services, situated in Barakhamba Road, New Delhi. I was responsible for sending the document, follow up and receiving them in two-three days. I also had to translate birth certificates and medical certificates of two students into Spanish since they were applying for higher studies from a college in Spain. To translate, I met Mr. Anil Dogra, Coordinator of European Linguistic Studies in Jawaharlal Nehru University. Some universities in Spain ask some of the important documents to be translated into Spanish. Some errors also took place in my jobs. When I was forwarding a document’s scanned copy to one university, the document was not properly scanned. But fortunately my boss found it in the final verification. On the spot, boss gave me an advice to properly scan any document and check out the scanned file before forwarding it to anyone.
  • 15. Summer Internship Report 15 | P a g e 4.Learning Two months of internship in British College gave me amazing experience. Even though my internship was not related to my specialization, as far I was working in the company, I learned many things from my observations. I was trying to connect what I learned from books with real life organizational environment. During my initial days in the survey, I found students were not interested in participating in the survey. They looked at the time it takes to fill up the questionnaire. Hence I was coming back to room with empty survey forms. But gradually I learned to communicate with students properly. I started explaining about British College, their services, the benefits of the participating in the survey etc. I started approaching students sitting as a group. I changed the answer “No” into “Yes”. I could understand that, people are ready to listen to us only if they are going to be benefitted ultimately. So, it is important for a marketer in communicate how a potential customer is going to be benefitted by using his/her product or service. Then only people start listening to him/her. From my observations in the early morning inside the office, I could see every staff is complaining each other about the bad decisions taken by their boss or bad experiences with the managing director. British College is a small organization employing only 20 – 25 staffs. But a small kind of organizational politics was obvious there. Some employees have conflicts with the interests of the others. I could see a lack of proper human resource management there. I could see that most of the employees are not actually committed to the organizational objectives. Rather they are demotivated because of several reasons. One of the major reasons behind the disappointment can be the delay in the payment of salary. It was clear that British College’s finance department is not effective. They are unable to speed up cash inflow. Major revenue of British College is the commission given from foreign universities based on the number of students enrolled through British College. It usually takes 1-2 months to receive the commission after the student enrollment. Finance department is unable to pay employee salary and other debts on the agreed date because of the above mentioned reason. But they can solve this problem by using some cash management tools such as cashflow statement. They should manage their cash inflow properly. It requires an efficient finance team.
