PA v PA Julie Kelly and Sarah Chapple Sept Oct 2014
summary
1. After graduating witha 1st Class Honours Degree in International Business and Management
from the University of Derby I started workingas a Store Manager in retail. It gave me the skills
to motivate and lead a small team of people, of taking care of the daily running of the business
and the management of employees.
I then tooka position as a Senior Administrator at a private college facility in Derby called tPDU.
I gained important administrational skills and I was able to build positive relationships with the
students, assisting them throughout their student life-cycle.Itwas my responsibility to manage
all the workloadsacross the office, appointing tasks to my colleagues. The position required me
organise appointments, enrol students, set up induction days, report any changes to the Home
Officeand carry out general administration tasks as required.
When I started working forTravall I worked in a busy officeenvironment dealing with
customers fromdifferent European countries over the phone, by email and face-to-face,
providing a high levelof customer service. I built solid relationships withtrade customers in
Europe to expand the sales of Bestop and Travall products and managed the company'sItalian
social media pages. I also translated their twowebsites into Italian and was responsible for
processing orders coming in from multiple sources including Amazon and EBay.
Due to personal circumstances I had to leave Travall. It was then that I decided to set up my own
Childminding Business. I am Ofsted registered and I am inspected and regulated by Ofsted. I
worktowards the standards outlined in the EYFS(Early Years Foundation Stage), making sure
children can develop in a safe and challenging environment in preparation forwhen they start
school at age 5.
With being self-employed I am completely responsible for running the business so I keep all
paperwork up to date - including children’s' records and observations as well as monthly
accounts. It is very important for me to build a strong and solid relationship withthe children
and their parents to make sure that we are workingtowards the same goals and objectives,
creating a climate of mutual trust and respect.
I have developed excellent organisational skills overthe past years by setting up my own
businesses. I have recently qualified as a Zumba Instructor and I have set up my ownclasses
therefore I have had to think strategically about advertising in the right sources, how to
effectively getin touch withmy students to keep them up to date and notify them of any
changes, etc.
