FACT
Or
BLUFF
1. The universe as we currently
know comprises all space and
time, and all matter and energy
in it.
FACT
2. The universe is at least 4.5 to
4.6 billion years old
BLUFF
3. The solar system as part of
the milky way is located at the
outer limb of the galaxy

THE SUBSYSTEM
1. STEADY STATE
2. BIG BANG
3. CREATIONISM
4. ATOMIC THEORY
5. RIG VEDA
6. NEBULAR
7. TYDALL THEORY
_____ 1. This theory states that God created the universe
in seven days
A. Aristotelian universe B. Creationist theory
C. Nebular Theory D. Primordial universe
_____ 1. The theory that states the universe developed
13.7 years ago and started as a very dense and hot
singularity.
A. Atomic universe B. Big Bang theory
• Opposes the Big Bang Theory
• Steady State theory states that the
universe has always been
essentially the same as it is today
and it will continue forever.
• The universe is expanding but it is
infinitely old. New galaxies
continually form in the gaps that
open up as the universe expands
• Creation of matter is an ongoing,
eternal process

EARTH: THE LIVING PLANET
The four subsystems of the earth
The four subsystems of the earth
1.Atmosphere
- The gaseous layer above the earth’s
surface , primarily composed of 78%
nitrogen, 21% oxygen and other gases like
argon, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide
and other inert gases made the remaining
1%
- The atmosphere supports life indirectly by
regulating the climate .
1.Atmosphere
- Air acts as both
blanket and filter,
retaining heat at
night and shielding
from direct solar
radiation through
the day
The four subsystems of the earth
2. Biosphere
- The zone of the earth where all forms
of life exist; in the sea, on land, and in
water. It sometimes called the large
ecosystem. This is the zone that life
inhabits. Biosphere is he very thin layer
above the earth’s surface.

The four subsystems of the earth
3. Geosphere
- The solid earth, consisting of the
entire planet from the center of the
earth to the outer crust. It includes
the core, mantle and the crust of the
earth.

The four subsystems of the earth
4. Hydrosphere
- The water part of the earth which
circulates among oceans , continents,
glaciers in the atmosphere. Oceans
cover 71% of the earth and contain
97.5% of its water.

Trace Maze! (5
mins)
Direction: Using the
diagram, trace how
the four
subsystems, across
whose boundaries
matter and energy
flow.

only a particular system but the Earth itself?
