Many researchers find it useful to strike a compromise,
employing a semistructured interview format (Steffes & Jacobs,
2021). Semistructured interviews are in-depth interviews in
which the participants answer a preset or developed set of open-
ended questions, but the researcher is allowed to deviate from
that set when desired in order to ask important follow-up
questions (Steffes & Jacobs, 2021). Closely aligned with
interviewing is the use of focus groups. A focus group is
basically an expansion of the instructed or semistructured
interview formats, inviting multiple individuals to engage in a
group discussion on the phenomenon. Thematic analysis is a
method for identifying, analyzing, and reporting patterns
(themes) within data (Braun & Clarke, 2006). It minimally
organizes and describes your data set in (rich) detail. A theme
captures something important about the data in relation to the
research question and represents some level of patterned
response or meaning within the data set (Braun & Clarke, 2006).
Themes or patterns within data can be identified in one of two
primary ways in thematic analysis: in an inductive or bottom-up
way. An inductive approach means the themes identified are
strongly linked to the data themselves as such, this form of
thematic analysis bears some similarity to grounded theory.
Therefore, I would choose to use an inductive approach for this
study, because thematic analysis and grounded theory rely
primarily on inductive analysis. Also, in qualitative research, a
very different logical sequencing takes place called inductive
reasoning. The researchers relies primarily on data collection to
drive the study and use theory only to the extent that it informs
his or her research questions (Steffes & Jacobs, 2021).
Grounded theory involves multiple stages of collecting data
often using multiple approaches and multiple groups. Typically
included iterative interviews, observations, document
collection, and questionnaires with various groups (Steffes &
Jacobs, 2021).

4. Themes come both from the data (an inductive approach) and
from the investigator's prior theoretical understanding of the
phenomenon under study (a prior approach). Prior themes come
from the characteristics of the phenomenon being studied; from
already agreed-on professional definitions found in literature
reviews; from local, commonsense constructs; and from
researchers' values, theoretical orientations, and personal
experiences (Ryan & Russell-Bernard, 2003). Codes and coding
are ways to progress toward a theory because they develop
categories (Saldana, 2013). Coding is just one way of analyzing
qualitative data and there are times when coding the data is
absolutely necessary, and times when it is most inappropriate
for the study at hand (Saldana, 2013). Affective coding methods
investigate subjective qualities of human experience (e.g.,
emotions, values, conflicts, judgments) by directly
acknowledging and naming those experiences (Saldana,

Hello everyone,
The thematic analysis approach refers to interpreting,
examining, and reporting themes within the data (Braun et al.,
2006). In thematic analysis, the researcher will use codes
assigned to a text. Codes are used to identify and analyze
concepts within a data set. Thematic analysis is useful when
using a large quantity of data like the one from the scenario.
Besides, a thematic analysis will be appropriate for this
scenario because the researcher will analyze and assess the
participants' experiences, views, and opinions. The researcher
will assign codes to the data. When using this approach, the
analysis can be inductive or deductive. Using an inductive
analysis infers that the researcher is creating themes or
meanings without preconceptions. On the other hand, when
using a deductive analysis, the researcher works with themes
that one is expected to find in the data. I believe the researcher
will use a deductive analysis because one is likely to find that
the residents in these rural areas have difficulties accessing
health care.
To analyze each data set, the researcher will code the data,
categorize the data and finally develop a theme to obtain
results; the process is iterative (Chess et al., 2021). This
process is crucial because it allows the researcher to analyze
and uncover the data deeply. Besides, it will also enable the
researcher to claim the work as scientifically rigorous and
systematic (Chess et al., 2021). For this scenario, the researcher
will transcribe all the recordings and then proceed to code, for
instance, the socioeconomic status of the area's residents. Then
the researcher can categorize the data and develop themes to
