This study examined the structure of lingual papillae on the tongue of a young male lion using macroscopic and microscopic analysis. Three types of papillae were observed - filiform, fungiform, and vallate. Filiform papillae covered the dorsal surface and showed weak keratinization. Fungiform papillae contained taste buds and were located among the filiform papillae. Five vallate papillae were found in the posterior tongue, each surrounded by a groove. The findings provide information about papillae structure in young lions, but may differ from adults due to the animal's age.
