Childhood obesity is a serious public health problem globally. The prevalence of obesity among youth has been increasing steadily. Children who are overweight or obese are likely to stay obese into adulthood and are at risk to develop obesity related serious health problems including early puberty, insulin resistance, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, high cholesterol and orthopedic issues. These complications may lead early death. Also youth with overweight or obesity are at risk to develop psychological diseases such as depression, poor body image, eating disorder, and behavioral and learning disorders.
This is my project for my Pre-AP English class. I decided to create mine on overweightness and obesity. If you are interested in donating to any of these organizations, the websites are on the final slide of the show. Thank you for watching.

denial that we needed to make people
aware that this is a medical crisis," Chief
Administrative Officer Linda Matzigkeit

9. Stephanie Walsh, the hospital's medical director
of child wellness and a facilitator of
the Strong4Life program, told HLN that the
public response -- whether positive or negative -
- was beneficial in spreading the message.
“I really try to focus on the fact that people are
talking about this. We needed this to become
front and center,” she said. “We needed to start
tackling this as a community. Everybody.”

Choose grilled fast food items instead of fried options
Turn the TV and computer off for one hour each day
Replace one sugar-sweetened beverage with water each

Make sure dinner includes veggies and fruits each day

Ask about the wellness policy at my child’s school or
daycare
Walk to and from school with other families one day
Calculate your child’s BMI (Body Mass Index)
Provide stickers to my child’s teacher to use as rewards —
instead of food—for good behavior
