My shared goal is focused on the importance of education. Many communities and countries lack education due to poverty. I think that everyone deserves the chance to a great education regardless of the many barriers they have.
Infant mortality is an issue that plagues the world. With the development of social media, many advocates for ending infant mortality are being labelled as "mom-shamers."

2. Why This Millenium
Development Goal?
The major obstacle to achieving universal primary education arises from the unequal
opportunities resulting from biases based on gender, ethnicity, income, language and
disabilities.
How these obstacles manifest oftentimes looks like a lack of school feeding, supplies and
teachers, responsibilities at home and pressure to earn additional income-- in other
countries this pressure can be greater for girls who are expected to help out in the home,
etc.
This goal resonates with me strongly because I was raised to value my education greatly and
my family prioritized my education no matter what other difficulties we faced, but not
everyone is this lucky. School was my thing growing up and I find it heartbreaking that
around 57 million primary school age children do not attend school and don’t get that
experience and opportunity.
3. Where Can The Greatest
Contribution Be Made?
In order to achieve this
goal, communities need to
work on making sure that
children’s needs are being
met, so that school can be
made a priority. This can
happen through donations,
feeding programs, safety
policies, etc.
4. What Does
This Look
Like
Locally?
Locally in Seattle and Tacoma, these
communities can work together in order to help
low-income youth and encourage education. This
can be achieved through local feeding
programs, such as breakfast drives because it
is important for learning and to fulfill their
basic needs which will nurture a routine and
eventually education as a priority.
5. How Can Social Media
Uniquely Apply to This Goal?
Social media can connect people to resources who want
to help or who need help! Dates, times, and locations
can be broadcasted to help more children in need.
It can be a great tool for these feeding events to
reach kids across the area who need to eat since it
such a large factor into this goal.
