Over a year ago this woman lost her left leg in an unfortunate boat accident. She had
her leg amputated from just above her knee.
Before her accident she was a personal trainer and ever since she has tried to live her
life normally and get back to sports. She has different legs for different occasions, all
designed by engineers.

He has created a technology that is designed to help people who’s hearts don’t work
properly
It is a pump that helps blood pass around the body. This device would be fully
implanted into the patient, for it to work
9. Elizabeth Kapasa
She is developing some new technology that will put sheet cells over bones to help
surgeons repair damage a person might have done.
In this method won’t damage the nearby cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM).
The ECM is the main structure to the bone so it is important not to damage it. In the
diagram above it shows how the sheet can help protect and repair the bone without
damaging the bone structure/ECM.
10. Man-made (or “lab-grown”) organs have gone from science fiction to fact in recent
years.
While lab-grown ears have become famous thanks to the striking picture of a mouse
with an ear grown on its back, recent technology, including 3-D printing and stem cell
use, has meant more complex organs are being made by scientists and engineers.
