This document provides a history of schools in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia from 1820 to the present. It discusses the following key points: - The first school was established in 1820 to serve the Black community in Upper Hammonds Plains. Over time, additional one-room schoolhouses opened throughout Hammonds Plains to serve growing populations. - In the late 1930s, a new two-room school was built in Lower Hammonds Plains to replace the aging original school. It opened in 1939 with around 50 students. - Throughout the 1800s and 1900s, schools in Hammonds Plains transitioned from privately run to government supported as education acts were passed.
