This document provides an overview of the Final Cut Pro X interface. It outlines the objectives of recognizing FCP X's major components and differences from FCP 7. It then details the various areas of FCP X's interface, including the Event Library, Clip Preview, and Timeline sections. Users are directed to a quiz and in-depth video for additional learning.

• The button to the right hides or reveals the
“event library”
• The button to the left controls tasks
performed in the “event library” and
displays the following menu:

• This button reveals a sub-menu that
allows changes to “clip appearance” and
looks like this:

12. Playback Options
• The button to the left is the “play full
screen” button and plays both clips and
the timeline in “full screen mode”
• The button to the right is the “loop
playback” button and will loop both
“selections of clips” and “selections in the
timeline”

13. View Zoom and Display Options
• The button to the left is the “viewer zoom”
button and is very similar to the button in
FCP 7, the menu does look a bit different:
• The button to the right displays “viewer
options” and is very different from FCP 7.

14. Video/Audio Enhancements
• This area is very similar to the “inspector”
found in motion or the Adobe suite of
products, review the following menus:

15. Transform/Crop/Distort Options
• These three tools do exactly as they do in
FCP7, the placement within the interface
is different
• The button to the left is the “transform”
button
• The button in the middle is the “crop”
button
• The button to the right is the “distort”
button

17. Import from Camera
• This is a new option in FCPX and is similar
to the same option in “iMovie”. When
selected a menu appears that identifies
the cameras connected to the computer:

18. Tools
• The “tools” menu is one area that has
changed rather significantly from FCP 7.
Not only is it located in a different area but
there are different tool options. Be sure to
watch the “in-depth video” for more
information about the new tools. Here is a
look at the new “tools” menu:

19. Timeline and Audio Options
• Unlike FCP 7 this is the only timecode
indicator available and displays the
timecode of the displayed item only, click
the timecode for even more options.
• The audio meters are located to the right
of the timecode, to move the meters to
their FCP 7 position on the far right simply
click the meters.

20. Audio/Color Correction
• Selecting this button will display a menu
with options on audio and color correction.
I have found this to be a very convenient
location for tools that I use all of the time.

21. Display Project Library
• Unlike FCP 7, FCP X maintains all FCP X
projects in one location. Instead of
searching for other projects, they can be
displayed by selecting this option.
Selecting this option displays the following
menu:
Since I only Have One FCP X Project this is
all that is Displayed. Once I Start More
Projects they will all Become Available in
this Menu

22. Change Clip Appearance
• This menu provides a number of options to
change the clip appearance within the
timeline only! Do not think of it as
changing the clips, but changing how you
view the clips in the timeline. The drop
down menu looks like this:
