The Signs of Easter - May 26, 2019 The 6th Sunday of EasterRedeemerWV
Signs. Signs. Everywhere are signs...
But are there really? Sunday we'll be hearing again the story of the conversion of Lydia told in Acts 16. We see a heart opened by God that hears the Word and receives the gifts from Word and Baptism to create faith. Then we see evidence of that faith in good works.

Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

5. “Come to Our Gathering”
#154 Praise Book ONLY (verses 1 & 2)
6. One: Welcome to this place:
Men: where children and seasoned citizens sit side by
side,
Women: where heaven and earth embrace in peace,
All: where God has been, is, and always will be.
[cont.]
7. One: Welcome to this place,
Men: as we gather with all of God's children: where
we find God's love,
Women: where we hear the tender voice of Jesus,
All: where the Spirit teaches us new songs. [cont.]
8. One: Welcome to this place,
Men: where all is made ready by our God:
Women: where we bring our hunger, and find food;
All: where we lay down our brokenness, and find
healing; where we bring our very selves, and find
acceptance. (1)
9. “We Are All Parts of One Body”
#78 Praise Book ONLY (verses 3 & 4)
10.
11. “In This Place” #80 Praise Book
We are all hungry people, we need shelter and
strength. We are one in our hurting, we are one in
our pain. In our suff'ring and sadness, we are
saved by the grace of the power and the Spirit that
is here in this place. [cont.]
12. All our lives are a myst'ry, we see not where they
lead. We are asked now to trust You, and we know
we must believe. As our feet become Christ's feet,
we go forth with the grace, of the power, and the
Spirit, that is here in this place. [cont.]
13. We are gathered at table, as one in the Lord.
We are gathered as people, who are living the
Word. Our hearts and our spirits are nurtured by
grace. It is Jesus who fills us. He is here in this
place. [cont.]
14. Though the world may tell us to look at ourselves,
we reach out to another where suffering dwells.
As our hands become Christ’s hands, we are
healed by the grace of the power and the Spirit
that is here in this place. [cont.]
15. We are gathered together, as one in the Lord.
We are gathered as people,
who are living the Word.
Our hearts and our spirits are nurtured by grace.
It is Jesus who fills us. He is here in this place.

16. The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy
name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on
earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our
debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and
the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
71. All: Generous God, it is easy for us to
comfortably imagine so many other Christians
praying today and receiving the elements of Holy
Communion. We like to think of this as a nice
event; yet you remind us that when we have
received these gifts we are also called to use the
strength that they provide to witness to
others through acts of reconciling love. [cont.]
72. All: This Communion is not a “nice” service,
meant for our comfort. It is a challenge for us to
truly accept the love of Jesus Christ, who gave
to us his body and his blood, that we might be
redeemed to do God’s loving will. [cont.]
73. All: As we have gathered here this day, bringing
our prayer concerns to you, O Lord, help us to
remember that you hold each one of us gently
and lovingly, offering your healing mercies. Give
us courage to be your witnesses, seeking peace
in this war-torn world. For we ask this in the
name of Jesus the Christ. AMEN. (2)

alive in one Spirit anointed we serve,
called to be sacrament of the Lord’s presence,
light to the nations and salt of the earth. [cont.]
77. All have been given to drink of the Spirit
so that the gifts of our God may abound,
so that the thirsty may find living water
and the good news of the kingdom may resound.
[cont.]
78. Alive in one Spirit, we gather at table,
alive in one Spirit anointed we serve,
called to be sacrament of the Lord’s presence,
light to the nations and salt of the earth. [cont.]
79. Home for the homeless and food for the hungry,
justice and dignity for the oppressed;
this is the worship of God’s holy people,
this is the feast of the breaking of the bread.
[cont.]
81. Blessings to All!
Remember…
You go nowhere by accident
Wherever you go God is sending you
Wherever you are God has put you there
God has a purpose in your being there
Christ who dwells in you has something
he wants to do through you where you are
Believe this and go in his love and
in his power and in his grace
This day and all of your days,
now and forever more
