The Signs of Easter - May 26, 2019 The 6th Sunday of EasterRedeemerWV
Signs. Signs. Everywhere are signs...
But are there really? Sunday we'll be hearing again the story of the conversion of Lydia told in Acts 16. We see a heart opened by God that hears the Word and receives the gifts from Word and Baptism to create faith. Then we see evidence of that faith in good works.

June 9, 2019 - The Day of Pentecost - Worship and Sermon SlidesRedeemerWV
Slides from Divine Service/Worship Service on June 9, 2019 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Charleston, West Virginia featuring the sermon "The World's Greatest Counselor"
Included in the sermon are the five ways to keep step with the Holy Spirit:
1. SEEK to remain open always to the Spirit's loving admonition and exhortation;
2. OPEN up the Scriptures regularly (daily!) so that He can speak to us through the Word and show where and how we need to repent and amend our sinful ways;
3. COME faithfully to God’s house to hear the preaching of God’s holy Word;
4. REFUSE to argue with Him when He clearly shows us where we need to confess and amend our sinful lives; and
5. REMEMBER that before we can help get the splinter out of somebody else’s eye, we must (as Jesus said) get that log out of our own eye.
"The World's Greatest Counselor" is based on these scriptures:
Psalm 143, Genesis 11:1-9, Acts 2:1-21, John 14:23-31

Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

Holy Spirit, that we may
perfectly love you, and
worthily magnify your
holy Name; through Christ
our Lord. Amen.
8. Father, we love you, we praise
you, we adore you.
Glorify thy name in all the earth.
Glorify thy name.
Glorify thy name.
Glorify thy name in all the earth.
9. Jesus, we love you, we praise
you, we adore you.
Glorify thy name in all the earth.
Glorify thy name.
Glorify thy name.
Glorify thy name in all the earth.
10. Spirit, we love you, we praise you,
we adore you.
Glorify thy name in all the earth.
Glorify thy name.
Glorify thy name.
Glorify thy name in all the earth.
11. The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us pray together the Collect
of the Day:
12. O God, whose Son Jesus is the
good shepherd of your
people: Grant that when we
hear his voice we may know
him who calls us each by
name,
13. and follow where he leads;
who, with you and the Holy
Spirit, lives and reigns, one
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
34. We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and
earth, of all that is, seen
and unseen.
35. We believe in one
Lord, Jesus Christ, the only
Son of God, eternally
begotten of the Father, God
from God, Light from Light,
36. true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the
Father. Through him all
things were made.
37. For us and for our salvation
he came down from
heaven: by the power of
the Holy Spirit he became
incarnate from the Virgin
Mary, and was made man.
38. For our sake he was
crucified under Pontius
Pilate; he suffered death
and was buried.
39. On the third day he rose
again in accordance with
the Scriptures; he ascended
into heaven and is seated at
the right hand of the Father.
40. He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the
dead, and his kingdom will
have no end.
41. We believe in the Holy
Spirit, the Lord, the giver of
life, who proceeds from the
Father and the Son. With
the Father and the Son he is
worshiped and glorified.
42. He has spoken through the
Prophets. We believe in
one holy catholic and
apostolic Church. We
acknowledge one baptism
for the forgiveness of sins.
43. We look for the
resurrection of the
dead, and the life of the
world to come. Amen.
46. For Justin, the Archbishop of
Canterbury; Katharine, our
Presiding Bishop;
Gay, President of the House of
Deputies; Michael, our visiting
Bishop;
John, Bruce, Vernon, and
Bob, our Bishops.
47. For the Diocese of Nelson.
For the mission and varied
ministries of the Episcopal
Church Women and all the
congregations in the Diocese
of Wyoming.

affliction, strife and need. For
those who have requested our
prayers and those we now
name, especially…
(The people may add their prayers aloud or silently.)

Sing out and glorify the Lord
who sets us free.
Sing out, my soul. (repeat)
Sing out and glorify
the Lord God!

the Lord God!
57. For ourselves, our families, our
companions and all those we
love.
For all of us as we minister to
each other and to the world.
58. We thank you for calling us to
be crazy Christians. We
thank you for all the blessings
you have given us, especially…
(The people may add their prayers of thanks aloud or
silently.)
59. Sing out, my soul. (repeat)
Sing out and glorify the Lord
who sets us free.
Sing out, my soul. (repeat)
Sing out and glorify
the Lord God!
60. Joining our voices with Saint
Mary, Saint Stephen and all
the saints and angels of God,
let us offer ourselves and one
another to the living God
through Christ.
To you, O Lord.
61. Blessed are you, O
God, whose Son lay down his
life to take it up again. Hear
the prayers we offer for every
need, and make us one
through your Holy Spirit;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Sing out and glorify the Lord
who sets us free.

May the abundant love of
God bring you peace…
and the peace of the Lord be
always with you
and also with you.
66. Walk in love, as Christ loved
us and gave himself for us, an
offering and sacrifice to God.
“Lord, Give us your Spirit”

67. Doxology
Praise God, from whom all
blessings flow;
praise him, all creatures here
below;
praise him above, ye heavenly
host:
praise Father, Son, and Holy
Ghost.
70. The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord
our God.
It is right to give him thanks
and praise.
71. God of all power, Ruler of
the Universe, you are
worthy of glory and praise.
Glory to you for ever and
ever.
72. At your command all things
came to be: the vast expanse
of interstellar
space, galaxies, suns, the
planets in their courses, and
this fragile earth, our island
home.
By your will they were created
and have their being.
73. From the primal elements you
brought forth the human
race, and blessed us with
memory, reason, and skill. You
made us the rulers of creation.
But we turned against
you, and
74. betrayed your trust; and we
turned against one
another.
Have mercy, Lord, for we
are sinners in your sight.
75. Again and again, you called
us to return. Through
prophets and sages you
revealed your righteous
Law. And in the fullness of
time you sent your only
Son, born of a woman,
76. to fulfill your Law, to open for
us the way of freedom and
peace.
By his blood, he reconciled us.
By his wounds, we are healed.
77. And therefore we praise you,
joining with the heavenly
chorus, with prophets,
apostles, and martyrs,
78. and with all those in every
generation who have looked
to you in hope, to proclaim
with them your glory, in their
unending hymn:
79. Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of
your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
80. Blessed is he who comes in the
name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
81. And so, Father, we who have
been redeemed by him, and
made a new people by water
and the Spirit, now bring
before you these gifts. Sanctify
them by your Holy Spirit to be
the Body and Blood of Jesus
Christ our Lord.
82. On the night he was
betrayed he took
bread, said the
blessing, broke the
bread, and gave it to his
friends, and said,
83. "Take, eat: This is my
Body, which is given for
you. Do this for the
remembrance of me."
84. After supper, he took the cup
of wine, gave thanks, and
said, "Drink this, all of you:
This is my Blood of the new
Covenant, which is shed for
you and for many for the
86. Remembering now his work of
redemption, and offering to you
this sacrifice of thanksgiving,
We celebrate his death and
resurrection,
as we await the day of his
coming.
87. Lord God of our Fathers: God
of Abraham, Isaac, and
Jacob; God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ: Open
our eyes to see your hand at
work in the world about us.
Deliver us from the
88. presumption of coming to
this Table for solace
only, and not for strength;
for pardon only, and not for
renewal. Let the grace of
this Holy Communion make
us one body, one spirit
89. in Christ, that we may
worthily serve the world in
his name.
Risen Lord, be known to us
in the breaking of the
Bread.
90. Accept these prayers and
praises, Father, through Jesus
Christ our great High Priest, to
whom, with you and the Holy
Spirit, your Church gives honor,
glory, and worship, from
generation to generation.
AMEN.
91. And now, as our Savior Christ
has taught us, we are bold to
say,
92. Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily
bread.
93. And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
94. The Breaking of the Bread
Alleluia. Christ our Passover is
sacrificed for us;
Therefore let us keep the
feast. Alleluia.
95. The gifts of God for the
People of God. Take them in
remembrance that Christ
died for you, and feed on him
in your hearts by faith, with
thanksgiving.
99. Post Communion Prayer (BCP p. 365):
Eternal God, heavenly Father,
you have graciously accepted
us as living members of your
Son our Savior Jesus
Christ, and you have fed us
with spiritual food in the
Sacrament of his Body and
100. Send us now into the world
in peace, and grant us
strength and courage to love
and serve you with gladness
and singleness of heart;
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
