2. ALDOSTERONE (MINERALOCORTICOID)
• Produced in Zona Glomerulosa-Adrenal Cortex.
• Acts on tubule cells in kidneys to reabsorb Na+.
• Greatly cause secretion of large amount of K+.
• Na+ is exchanged for H+, therefore preventing Acidosis.
• Secretion is regulated by:
– Concentration of Potassium.
– RA System.
– Concentration of Sodium.
– ACTH from Ant. Pituitary.
3. CORTISOL (GLUCOCORTICOID)
• Monitors RESISTANCE to stress. Manufactured in Zona Fasciculata.
• Work with other hormones in promoting normal organic metabolism. Make sure
enough energy is available.
• Carries out extensive GLUCONEOGENESIS.
• Has Anti-Inflammatory properties:
– no. of Mast Cells to inhibit release of Histamines.
– Stabilize lysosomal membranes- release of enzymes.
– blood capillary permeability and depress Phagocytosis by monocytes.
• Secretion regulated by:
– Stress (Conditions CRH ACTH Glucocorticoids).
– Low Level of Glucocorticoids.
4. ANDROGENS (GONADOCORTICOIDS)
• Synthesized in Zona Reticularis. Are sex hormones.
• These are Estrogens and Androgens. Estrogens are several closely related female sex
hormones that are also produced by the ovaries and placenta.
• Androgens are hormones that exert masculinizing effects. Testosterone produced in
Leydig cells of Testis.
• Stimulus GnRH Release of LH & FSH Gonadocorticoids
