The document discusses the history and evolution of steel production technologies from ancient times to modern times. It notes that ancient steel was produced using charcoal in open hearth furnaces. In the 1850s, the Bessemer process allowed for inexpensive mass production of steel. Later, open hearth furnaces replaced the Bessemer process. Current technologies like basic oxygen furnaces and electric arc furnaces have replaced open hearth furnaces due to their faster production. Modern steelmaking is highly automated, energy intensive, and capital intensive but produces low-cost, high quality steel.

IRJET- Fabrication of Foundry Cum Forging FurnaceIRJET Journal
This document describes the fabrication of a coal-fired crucible furnace using locally sourced materials. Mild steel sheet was used to fabricate the furnace casing and other components. Refractory bricks lined the inside and were mortared together. A burner housing introduced air from a blower to fuel combustion inside. Proper insulation and an exhaust system allowed the furnace to efficiently melt metals for casting or heat them for forging. The furnace was designed to operate without extensive electricity usage, making it suitable for small foundries.

The CFB units can meet stringent emission limits without additional flue gas desulfurization equipment.
Mass and heat balance for duplex stainless steel production by conarc processIJESFT
Mass balance and heat balance calculations are carried out for estimating inflow and outflow of materials and energy respectively in a process. Such calculations are required to get accurate composition of product with available raw materials. CONARC is a new electric steel making process using a twin shell electric arc furnace (EAF) which can handle raw materials input of solid steel scrap and hot metal in varying proportions.
In the present study an attempt has been made to develop a mathematical model for mass and heat balance for duplex stainless steel production by CONARC process. Case studies have been carried out by varying the amount of hot metal in the charge from 0% to 100%. Such variation shows proportionate increase in the amount of oxygen required, lime consumption and amount of slag formed along with the increase in chemical energy available for the process. However, electrical energy consumption reduces for SAF 2205 and 3RE60 duplex stainless steel production.
On the basis of the above case studies, it has been found that increased amount of hot metal increases the available chemical energy for the process and in turn it reduces the electrical energy requirement of CONARC process, ultimately leading to reduction in the power consumption and overall production cost.
The document discusses heat treatment furnaces and processes. It begins by classifying furnaces and describing general fuel economy measures. It then defines heat treatment, discusses its purposes and principles. Several heat treatment processes are outlined, including annealing, normalizing, hardening and tempering. The document concludes by describing different types of furnaces used for heat treatment, such as batch and continuous furnaces, as well as furnaces powered by gas, oil or electricity.
Adoption of supercritical technology (1)HARSHIT GUPTA
India has significant coal reserves and is looking to adopt supercritical steam technology to generate more power while improving efficiency and reducing emissions. Supercritical plants can achieve efficiencies of up to 15% higher than subcritical plants through higher steam temperatures and pressures. However, developing high temperature alloy steels is a key challenge. A study analyzed the costs and technical feasibility of importing supercritical technology from other countries versus developing it domestically. The study found domestic development could reduce costs by around 30-40% compared to imports but would require 2-6 years to transfer the technology depending on the complexity of the plant design.

Steel is the world’s most important engineering and construction material. Currently (year 2020) 1810 MT steel is produced world-wide for various uses. It is 100% recyclable and can be used infinitely. Steel Industries used advanced technologies and techniques to increase production yield rates and to facilitate the use of co-products. As a result of the intrinsic recyclability of steel, the value of the raw materials invested in steel production lasts far beyond the end of a steel products life. It is used in every aspect of our lives; in automotive to construction, home appliances to medical devices & many more.
Steel is the world's most important construction material and in 2020, 1.81 billion metric tons were produced globally using two main processes: the blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace method which uses iron ore, coal and recycled steel, and the electric arc furnace method which uses recycled steel and electricity. Steel is 100% recyclable and can be reused infinitely. Coke ovens produce coke as fuel for blast furnaces and generate byproducts such as ammonia, coal tar and gases which can be captured. Many foundries use waste heat to power boilers and thermal mass flow meters are used in various steel foundry processes such as measuring blast air, coke oven gas, blast furnace gas, exhaust gases

1. STEEL
Steel is the world’s most important engineering and construction material.
Currently (year 2020) 1810 MT steel is produced world-wide for various
uses. It is 100% recyclable and can be used infinitely. Steel Industries used
advanced technologies and techniques to increase production yield rates
and to facilitate the use of co-products. As a result of the intrinsic
recyclability of steel, the value of the raw materials invested in steel
production lasts far beyond the end of a steel products life. It is used in
every aspect of our lives; in automotive to construction, home appliances to
medical devices & many more.
STEEL IS PRODUCED BY TWO MAIN PROCESS
The Blast Furnace- Basic Oxygen Furnace (BF-BOF) method
2. Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) method
The key difference between the methods is the type of raw
materials they consume. For the BF-BOF methods are
predominantly iron ore, coal, and recycled steel, while the EAF
method produces steel using mainly recycled steel and electricity.
Depending on the plant configuration and availability of recycled
steel, other sources of metallic iron such as direct-reduced iron
(DRI) or hot metal can also be used in the EAF method.
Aluminum, cast iron, and steel are the most commonly processed
metals. The majority of coke comes from by-product coke ovens.
The coke is prepared in brick furnaces and volatile gas by-
products (primarily ammonia, coal tar, and gaseous compounds)
are collected and saved. In recovery coke plants the waste gas
exits into a waste heat recovery boiler which converts the excess
heat into steam for power generation. In non-recovery coke
plants, gas by-products collect in a common tunnel and exit via a
stack. Many foundries use generated heat to run boilers for site
power requirements, which involves measuring combustion air
flow and fuel flow to boilers, and measuring stack exhaust gas.
