Recent changes to LinkedIn Groups affect how colleges and universities use alumni groups. LinkedIn made groups automatically approve all membership requests and instantly post all member content to increase engagement. This removes administrators' control over group membership and requires more moderation to remove inappropriate posts. It also reduces the visibility of private groups. Schools must now determine how to integrate sub-groups combined into main groups and how to maintain the integrity of alumni networks with less oversight of new members. The full impacts of these changes on higher education groups are still unfolding.
The Rochdale Borough wide Cultural Trust (Link4Life) launched in 2007 to develop new and improved cultural, sports, and leisure facilities in the borough. These developments consolidated outdated sites into modern centers with expanded amenities. Link4Life faced challenges integrating new technologies, adapting operations, and meeting higher customer expectations at the larger facilities. Lessons included controlling new systems introduction, managing expanded costs and maintenance needs, and allowing time for staff and customers to adjust to changes.

This document discusses challenges and initiatives around recycling paper cups and foodservice packaging in the UK. It outlines the history of the Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group, which was established in 2006 to explore collecting and recycling paper cups. While early trials were successful, they could not compete at a large scale. The document describes a 2013 convention where stakeholders discussed opportunities to pursue an industry-wide initiative to develop a viable supply chain for recycling paper cups and foodservice packaging. It proposes a three-pronged project to map the process and conduct capture trials to support a full funding submission leading to potential investment and expansion in this area.
The document summarizes the results of a survey of over 1,000 football fans in the UK about their travel to home and away matches. It found that most fans travel to home matches by car but would prefer more affordable public transport options. For away matches, most fans use trains but want more discounted fares and refunds if matches are cancelled. The document's recommendations include promoting multi-modal travel, offering discounted local and national public transport tickets for matchgoers, and establishing a national source of travel information for football fans.
The document proposes a "Sustainable Stadia in Sustainable Communities" project that would partner sports clubs with local communities to improve home energy efficiency, reduce fuel poverty, and promote renewable energy and job training. Sports clubs could help engage communities facing fuel poverty and health issues from inefficient housing. The project aims to strengthen communities and clubs through more sustainable energy outcomes.
Craig Simmons has advised several major sporting events on sustainability including the London 2012 and Sochi 2014 Olympics. He identifies 5 "megatrends" from these events that can help sports deliver on sustainability: 1) Minimize new construction by using temporary or existing structures; 2) Take events to spectators instead of vice versa to reduce energy use; 3) Build a genuine low-impact environmental legacy with benefits like improved energy and water systems; 4) Educate audiences to change behaviors and understand priorities; 5) Showcase innovations to drive economic and social benefits like new jobs and products. Sustainability offers both risks to mitigate and opportunities for events through reduced costs, better community relations, and compliance with regulations.
