St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17th to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick was born in Wales in 387 AD and was taken as a slave to Ireland in 403 AD, where he later escaped in 409 AD. After joining a monastery in France in 417 AD, St. Patrick began his mission to convert Ireland to Christianity in 432 AD and established Armagh as the primary see of Ireland before dying in 461 AD.
