This document discusses the domestication of gaming technology and the need to understand elements of the gaming experience beyond just playing the game, such as cultural and social practices. It notes a gap in current research and proposes a mixed ethnographic approach, using blogs and forums, to study how specific console games and genres become integrated into everyday life. This would help dispel stereotypes and provide insight into why certain games become domesticated rather than just observing that they are. Karaoke game SingStar is given as an example to analyze its social and cultural role.
