1) Supply chain disruptions from black swan events like natural disasters have become more common and can have huge financial and reputational costs for companies. The 2011 Japanese tsunami and Thai floods severely impacted automotive and technology supply chains.
2) A survey found that 43% of businesses know of a high-risk supplier failing to comply with regulations, and 8% believe over half their suppliers present significant financial or reputational risks if they failed.
3) Interviews revealed examples of suppliers identified parts fraudulently, had safety incidents killing a worker, used substandard labor damaging brands, and presented risks from overreliance on subcontractors in construction.
Brunel University has updated its sport sciences programs to focus more on employability and integrating health and exercise. Students can now choose between several Bachelor's degrees related to sport sciences, each with specialized options and work-based learning opportunities in the second and third years. Tracking and positioning_of_mobile_systems_in_telecom_network_2HITESH Kumawat
The document discusses various methods for determining the location of mobile devices in cellular networks, including GPS, angle of arrival, time of arrival, and tracking curve methods. It describes how each method works to calculate location based on signals from base stations or satellites. The tracking curve method is proposed to more accurately track location by using curves connecting intersection points from multiple base station signals to address issues like multipath fading.

LG Electronics.
Red Tacton is a new technology developed by NTT that uses the human body as a network transmission path at speeds of up to 10 Mbps. It functions by generating weak electric fields on the skin's surface that modulate optical properties of an electro-optic crystal in the transceiver to transmit data. The system is safe for the human as no current flows into the body, and only causes displacement current from electric fields interacting with skin electrons. Potential applications include secure authentication, device personalization through touch, and acting as an alternative to short-range wireless systems.
The document describes an autonomous fire detection robot designed and built by a team to compete in a fire extinguishing competition. The robot uses infrared sensors to detect walls and white lines, a UV sensor to detect flames, and a water pump and nozzle to extinguish detected fires. The team encountered problems with the robot's weight, motor current draw, and infrared sensor noise that prevented it from competing but estimates it could have placed highly with its average 55 second fire extinguishing time if not for a wiring issue. The total budget for the robot was $1048.90.
This document discusses the potential for terahertz (T-ray) scanners using nano-antenna technology. T-rays lie between infrared and microwaves and can penetrate materials like clothing. Researchers have developed room temperature T-ray sources using plasmonic photoconductors and nano-antennas as small as 100 nanometers. These compact sources could enable portable, low-cost T-ray scanners for applications like airport security and medical imaging with better resolution than current scanners. Nano-antenna T-ray scanners would be smaller, less expensive, and more widely available than existing bulky, costly scanners.
The document is a PowerPoint presentation on artificial intelligence that contains the following key points:
1. It discusses the origins and early history of AI research from the 1950s conference at Dartmouth College.
2. It covers various aspects of AI including knowledge representation, natural language processing, emotion and social skills in machines, and creativity in AI systems.
3. It provides an overview of artificial neural networks and how they are inspired by biological neural systems, focusing on artificial neurons, learning processes, and function approximation using neural networks.
