SPYCHIPS “ how major corporations and government plan to track your every move with RFID”
“ You’re sitting on the train reading the latest Tom Clancy novel when some sixth sense makes you look up. Two seats away, a man is peering down at the panel of his Palm Pilot PDA. He presses a few buttons, then aims is pointedly in your direction…” PRIVACY FROM OTHERS: It was predicted that by 2010 this type of technology would be available to the public. With a press of a button strangers would have access to information on all your clothes and purchases.
RFID & SAFETY “ If a woman buys a sweater and it’s RFID tag number is cross-referenced with her credit cards in a retail database, her abuser could use that information to track her” Would personal safety prevent you from promoting RFID use? Has it ever influenced your purchasing choices?
A MORE PROMISING FUTURE?
THE “INVISIBLE BULL’S-EYE” “ The invisible chip embedded in each passport will contain the name, nationality, date of birth, and digitized photograph of each traveler” While allowing greater access to traveler information by governments the RFID embedded passports also pose a risk to traveler’s safety if RFID readers fall into the wrong hands. Do the benefits of national security outweigh the risks of personal safety?
RFID & Automobiles One of the most popular uses is the EZ Pass, a device that lets users pass through tolls by paying through the RFID embedded device to save time and ease traffic congestion
By placing RFID readers every few miles major cities Such as Houston have embraced RFID technology to study and monitor traffic patterns. Some worry this will evolve into mandated GPS devices which will allow 24-hour vehicle tracking by the government. while some worry about privacy the devices may also enhance automotive safety by communicating with other vehicles as well as emergency response teams.
AUTOMOTIVE THEFT “ Millions of Nissans, Fords, and Toyotas rely on the system to prevent theft. The cars aren’t supposed to start unless they sense a compatible RFID chip in the key. But the students worked out a method to siphon the code from the spychipped key and, with less than an hour’s computing time, extract the code needed to hotwire the car.”
BIG BROTHER GROWS -RFID chips are now being used in school IDs, workers uniforms, and even the soap dispenser -One Mexican company went as far as embedding RFID chips in their workers -Mandatory use for prisoners -Imbedded in people to store and transmit health records
“ Of course, once cash is tagged, there will be no more anonymous payment options left…” … really?
“ A people docile enough to allow their medicine cabinets, refrigerators, cash registers, retail shelves, food, guns, passports, mail, work uniforms, car tires, roads, taxis, and subways to be tagged and monitored by authorities would be easy picking for a tyrant.” IS THIS REALLY OUR FUTURE?
