Carlos noticed that his snail moved up the smooth glass sides of his
aquarium. He wondered if a snail moved faster on a smooth surface or a
rough surface. So he placed his snail on a piece of bark (rough surface) for
two minutes and recorded how far the snail moved. He marked the snailʼs
starting and stopping points. Then he placed the snail on a piece of glass
(smooth surface) for two minutes and recorded the distance he moved on
that surface. He again marked the snailʼs starting and stopping point. The
drawing below shows the distances that the snail moved on each surface.
