Tuberculosis (TB) of the spine, also known as Pott's disease, is a bacterial infection that causes destruction of vertebral bodies and discs. It is the most common form of skeletal TB. Key characteristics include kyphotic deformity, disc space narrowing, vertebral body destruction seen on x-ray. Treatment involves antibiotic therapy and surgery if indicated for abscesses, neurological deficits, or instability. The goals are to eradicate the infection, prevent recurrence and neurological injury, restore stability, and correct deformity.
