There are many species of tigers
which are found all over the world.

concern, as they were under the
list of endangered animals.

3. International Tiger Day
The International Tiger Day is celebrated on July 29 every
year. This year marks the eleventh International Tiger Day. The
main aim behind this day is to promote a global system for
protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public
awareness and support for tiger conservation issues. The
decision to celebrate the day was taken in 2010 at the Saint
Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia in response to the
shocking news that 97% of all wild tigers had disappeared in
the last century, with only around 3,000 left alive.

4. TIGERS FOR HEALTHY US -

Tigers are an "umbrella species" -
meaning their conservation also
protects many other species in the
ecosystems.
Balanced ecosystems are not only

5. What are the threats to tigers in the wild?
According to World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Poaching and
illegal wildlife trade along with habitat loss and
increasing human-tiger conflict poses a grave threat to
the survival of our tigers.
Every part of the tiger from whiskers to tail - is traded
in illegal wildlife markets.

6. CURRENT STATISTICS
According to World Wildlife Fund
currently, tiger populations are stable or
increasing in India,Nepal, Bhutan, Russia
and China. But in some areas, including
much of Southeast Asia, tigers are still in
crisis and declining in number.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 29,
2019, released the Tiger Estimation
Report 2018 and said that according to
the tiger census the population of tigers
in India had increased to 2,967 in 2018
from 2,226 in 2014.

7. What can you do to protect wild tigers?
The power to protect and conserve our natural world, including our
tigers is within us. We all must act together and bring small changes
that can make a big difference. Here is what we can do:
• Spread the word - Talk about it and share your knowledge.
• Be responsible with your choices - Choose products that are
responsibly sourced so that our forests, home of the beautiful big cat,
stay healthy and pristine.
• Say NO to tiger products - Tigers are poached for their beautiful fur;
they are also killed for their bones & meat. Say NO and report such
incidents to help stop this heinous illegal trade
