This document discusses the issue of morality in Indonesia, particularly within the government where there are many cases of corruption. It argues that the education system has failed to develop good character in youth. It urges taking responsibility to address this problem, such as by choosing leaders based on their character and track record, not rhetoric. Starting from small actions like carefully selecting friends and government officials can help shift mindsets and eventually improve morality and the country in the long run.

How do criminals decide to commit a crime? Do they even think about the risks and benefits? Why do some commit crimes regardless of the consequences? These are some questions we often ask for ourselves because of the growing number of crimes happening in the society today.

1. Character is the main thing that basically will describe someone who really are. Whether
they are good or bad, whether they are smart or critical, and so on so far. But unhappily,
whether we realize or not, Indonesia has already in morality crisis, especially in governance where as we
know there are so many corruption cases, scandal with sex commercial worker, and many other
immoralities that the government has did.
Honorable to all the judges and honorable to all the audience in this room. Actually what I’ve
mentioned before is happened because the educational system that were failed to run out their
function in order to built up a good character since we were young. Here, for the next 7 minutes, I’m not
going to explain you on how we could prevent this corruption by running well the character education,
but I’m going to deliver on how we solve this immorality problem (of the government) that happen
nowadays.
Before I’m going too far, Let us praise the Almighty, Allah swt that has given us opportunity to
be here and joining this wonderful event. And also our prophet, that has brought us from the spider
era to the spiderman era, dark to a bright.
Ladies and gentlemen
Character is one of the really important aspects for someone. We could know someone not just
from her/his name, but also from their character and their behavior. Characters are formed by several
factors; genetic factor that exist since they were born, which is their parents personality. But 60% of
characters are built up from their surrounding, their environment, who they get friend with, and the one
who are becoming their model of style (it could be someone older).
Besides forming their character, environment also will form up their mind set on how they think
critical or not, on how they are smart on facing something, etc. That’s why environment also becoming
one aspect that are really important in forming and built up an individual, built up the young generation.
Because environment is the one which becoming their model in doing anything. In school, home,
organization, country, etc.
Ladies and gentlemen
Let us imagine how bad the condition of our nation is! Our government that is expected to
become good example and good character branded person, do everything that are unexpected and
immoral thing instead. Corruption, politic mafia, suffer, economy crisis, are such an extremely creepy
thing that happen because immorality, because less-respected and less-tolerant. Our nation then
become wrecked, broke, there is no perfect paragon of character.
This is every individual responsibility, this is every family responsibility, and THIS IS OUR
RESPONSIBILITY! Responsibility to fix this immorality problem out and change Indonesia becomes
better. Say for example by choosing good environment, which I mean is by selecting friends, people who
we are going to be friend with, or selecting a good paragon to become a good example for life.
2. We do not have to wait until we are mature or old enough to fix this problem. Now, as we know,
we are the “beginner voters” (pemilih pemula) we are entering the age of 17th
years old, which means
we are capable to participating directly on this political process, we are enable to join any kind of public
election in order to choose candidates which are going to lead and run out the governance.
START from very tiny simple way, which is by carefully selecting the government, do not easily
trust any political rhetoric, but by knowing the identity of every particular candidate from their
character, from their track record, on what have they did to the society, to the nation!
49,3% of voters come from the “beginner voters” base on LSN (Lembaga Survei Nasional) which
showing us that this simple way will effectively change the kind of Indonesia’s government and to
relieve the premitif mind set of voter ahich saying that say for example “a good president is from java”
or whatsoever.
By doing this responsibility that start form tiny simple way, hopefully it could change Indonesia
become better in long term, having high level of moral, and then we can build up this country develop it
become good, excellent country!
Good afternoon all, me, Nurul Ilmi Salsabila, SMAN 2 Tinggimoncong.
