2. Module 1
Design of Hand-Held location identification system
for the stranded fishermen
3. Functional Requirements
• A unique identification number for each hand-held device through hardware
• GPS Tracker
• 3X3 push buttons for encoding the emergency messages from the fishermen
0 – someone has deceased in the boat
1 – Damaged Boat
2 – Seriously ill
3 - No fuel
4 – No food
5 – Arrested by Police
6 – Attacked by Pirates
8 – Bad Weather
9 – Damaged Net
10 - Capsized Boat
4. Functional Requirements
• Uplink communication module to send GPS position of the unique device once in 15 minutes to
satellite and downlink the same information to the ground station.
• In case of emergency, the appropriate encoded emergency number along with the current GPS position
of the boat should be uplinked to satellite and again downlinked to the ground station.
• LED lights with three colour modes to indicate the following conditions
Red - Crossed the International Maritime Border
Green - Approaching the International Maritime Border
Yellow LED - Well within the National Border
The command to glow appropriate LED should be ensued from the ground station Central
Processing Unit once in 15 min. Sound alarms can be included, if necessary.
• If crossed International Maritime Borders, the direction of navigation to depart from the International
Border should be processed by the ground station and the same to be informed to the boatman by
enabling the appropriate LED to blink.
5. Functional Requirements
• Lithium Ion Battery system for energy management with the recharging facility
• Integration of LoRA communication Model for uplink and downlink transmission.
• The device must be water proof
• Either a LCD based character display (min 15 Characters) with the revolving display or a seven
segment LED display to showcase the encoded emergency message.
7. Module 2
A Mobile Application module for fishing
family to inform the status of fisherman
and to push emergency messages from
fishing family to fisherman
8. Functional Requirements
• An Android mobile app needs to be developed where the application required to be accessed based on
individual profile provided by the unique identification number assigned to every hand-held device.
• It should always display the unique number and the name of the fisherman on the homepage and other
pages.
• It should have a menu called as the current position of the fisherman over a Google map. The current
position should be obtained from the cloud database and displayed.
• It should have an additional menu for sending family’s emergency message to the fisherman. Some of
the sample emergency messages are:
• A family member has died
• A family member is seriously ill
• An impending natural disaster
The above messages need to be encoded in numeric form and sent to the ground station.
• From there, using the satellite’s uplink and downlink, the emergency message should be communicated
to the respective fisherman’s unique device.
10. Functional Requirements
• A cloud based database must be created with the device’s unique number as the primary key.
• The following key elements pertaining to fishermen profile should be uploaded into the
database.
Device’s Unique Identification Number
Aadhar Number
Aadhar Details (address)
Aadhar details of Spouse
Contact Number of fisherman
Emergency contact Number
Essential Medical details of fisherman
Preferred fishing route
Nearest Police Station
Nearest Coast Guard station
Regional Fisheries dept
Details of rescue services

13. INTRODUCTION
Venus has a beautiful name and is the
second planet from the Sun. It’s terribly
hot—even hotter than Mercury—and its
atmosphere is extremely poisonous
