The poem "Tichbornes Elegy" explores the theme of a life cut tragically short. In three stanzas, the speaker describes their youth slipping away despite still being relatively young. All their hopes and plans for the future will not come to fruition as their life is ending prematurely. The speaker reflects that they have died, yet are still alive in a way, having seen the world but remained unseen. The theme is that the speaker's life is over even though they are too young to die.

- Sophie: this is our presentation about tichbornes elegy by charles tichborne Elesha:the poem was written b himself in the tower before his execution for plotting to kill queen elizabeth I and replace her by catholic mary queen of scotts. However the plot was foiled and tichborne was arrested and later tried and sentenced to death in westinster and died at the young age of 28. Sophie: the poem was written on september 19th 1586 to his wife agnes as part of his goodbye letter. This poem is a dark look at life cut short and is remarkable for being written mostly by monosyllables with the exception of the word fallen. Elesha: we have prepared a document of usefull websites about the poem to help with your revision which you can find on fronter on the resources room.
- Sophie : now we are going to read out tichbornes elegy and show a slideshow of pictures we thought represented each line of the poem.
- Elesha: The themes of he poem is that Charles tichbone believes his life is not over but he has to die which he is extremely frustrated about because nothing worthwhile has come out of his short life and line 3 says my crop of corn is but a field of tares which sums that up as tares means weeds.. The first line of the third stanza says I sought my death and found it in my womb which is telling us that he believes he was doomed even before he was born. The theme we think sums up the poem is too young to die. Sophie: The final line of the first stanza is identical to the last line of the second and third stanzas, emphasising the fact that although the poet is alive at the actual time of writing the poem, he knows that his life has virtually come to an end.We think that the poem is saying that he hasn’t done all the things he planned to do in his life and line 5 sums this up , as it says the day is past yet I saw no sun. Also line 3 says my crop of corn is but a field of tares which means that the good things he thought had really are not that great and turned out to be like weeds which is what tares means.
- Elesha : Focusing on the main theme of the poem is too young to die as we believe this sums up the whole poem and we have found something that we thought relates to this theme and will remind you of the poem when it comes to revision: sophie:one was the film too young to die starring brad pitt which relates to the poem as the film is about a 15 year old who is charged with a murder that carries the death penalty which is very similar to the poem as charles tichborne is young and faced the death penalty and also the song by jamroqui also called too young to die which focuses on the main theme of the poem.

My first impression of the poem was that Charles tichborne was just saying goodbye to his wife and writing down how sad he is to die but while we were studying it we found out that the poem has more to that as he's saying how his life was a disappointment and he didn’t get a chance to really live it to the full and do everything he wanted which shows us how precious life is and that we must take every chance we get .
