Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. 2. The existing brand that I plan on using is Sony.
Original Idea
The product is going to be called “GOTG” which
is an abbreviation for “Gaming On The Go” .
Which is basically a gaming jacket suitable
for Sony’s portable devices such as the PS
Vita and PSP, it also is suitable for phones
that have a USB port with it.
I feel that this would be appropriate
for this brand because Sony specialize
in handheld products such as phones
and the PSP gaming wise and Sony
were the ones who really made
portable gaming take off, out-shining
the original brand that created
portable gaming which was Nintendo.
And I feel that with the rival
brands (Microsoft, Sony and
Nintendo) constantly competing
with each other to see who can
out-do who in terms of products
and deals. Myself being a
consumer of the Sony franchise,
would rather see Sony take
advantage of this and turn it
into a revolutionary product and
ignite the flame even more .
3. For the advertisement I felt that I should go
for a humorous approach because research
shows that people would pay attention
more to an advert if it was funny or
somewhat entertaining and I feel that it will
go well if I try that approach.
Style
Content
The storyline will be about an
average teen playing the PS
Vita but it runs out of power
and the kids laugh at him till
he uses the gaming jackets
utilities .
The advert is trying to get the
selected target audience hyped
up, because to them it’s possibly a
“dream come true”
Song used: Imagine Dragon
– On Top of the World
4. Initial Ideas
The picture to my left is
my basic idea of what I
had in mind.
Taking things into account
such as the colour and
the overall design(s) of
the product.
Also having facts such as
health hazards and
instructions on how you
can avoid it.
And also the alternate
Idea of having a gaming
backpack is also on the
brainstorm
Also from the feedback I have received from my
fellow classmates got my thinking. They said that
they appeal to an “Newer Generation” which
made my think that I should do the design based
on this generation and figure out how they would
be interested in it.
5. Budget of Advert
Based on the research that I
did, the budget would goes as
follows.
Jacket – £85
Battery Pack - £90
PS Vita with USB (already
Purchased) - £160
Actors – negotiations the
actors agent over the salary
Renting Scenery – has to be
discussed with the owner of
the property.
Video Camera - £300-400
price range.
So if the idea is given the thumbs up then the
budget I shall receive for this project should
be at least between £1500-£2500 pounds (if
it comes up to that much).

Technical Resources
8. Technical Restraints
-
The problem with this product is that the jacket must be big enough to hold all of the content included
Carrying to many electrical equipment has proven to be very dangerous in terms of crime and weather
conditions.
USB cord may not be long enough to reach past my jacket sleeve
Could short circuit itself
It may be heavy to carry around with you everywhere
May increase body heat
Could cause heat rash and various heat related symptoms
How they could be resolved
Could use an extended version of the cord that’s being used
Could purchase a coat that is water resistant
Reorganize the positioning of the products in the jacket
give clear instructions to keep jacket open at certain times to let hot air out
9. Technical Limits
May not be able to re-create the product
-
Tight budget
-
Permission denied in certain areas
-
Editing software may be defective
-
Negotiating with actors
-
Product could be damaged
-
Video Recorder not able to function properly
-
Actual Image of product
10. Deadline
I’m planning to finish at least 3 FULL
DAYS before the deadline which is the
23rd of May.
Reason being is so I could be able to
check to see if there are any
miscalculations that need adjusting or
any improvements I could make to it.
And between the 23rd of May
and the 13th of June I’ll be
working on any improvements
that I may or may not have till
the actual deadline.
