Why We’re Here
What’s Going On? In 2006, the big Internet news was ''Web 2.0'', participatory Web sites, like YouTube, MySpace, Wikipedia, Digg and Flickr, which relied on material supplied by the audience itself. Now the Web is changing from being a method of publication to being a global conversation .

Global Conversations - Collaborative Creativity Today the most powerful instances of collaboration are not done by people consciously working with each other . The whole Web 2.0 phenomenon is made possible by the extraordinary collection of materials and intelligence created by millions of individuals acting independently . It’s not just simply social networking on the web, it’s content development Wikipedia, Open Source, consumer-driven innovation Passionate amateurs, using new tools, are creating new products and paradigms on the web. So what does this mean to G2 Direct & Digital? Let’s look at some possibilities for our clients.

Web traffic spikes during TV prime time
Linking Web Site Content to TV Television networks are slowly learning how to use the Internet to their advantage. New data from Nielsen/NetRatings shows that television web sites see a spike in usage during prime time. During the month of March, 40% of the time spent on NBC.com was spent between the hours of 8pm and 11pm EST. ABC and Fox had 30% of the time spent at ABC.com and 26% at Fox.com occurring during prime time Similarly, web sites aimed at kids get a boost between 5pm and 8pm daily, as kids log into reference sites for help with their homework or social networking sites to avoid doing homework. Dictionary.com saw its heaviest usage during that time slot, with 31% of its total time spent during that time period. Interactive television shows are also driving changes in usage patterns. The advent of online voting for contestants on shows such as “Dancing with the Stars” encourages the simultaneous consumption of TV and Web content . Advertisers can also take advantage of the interplay between these two media, adding online promotions to their traditional 30 second television spots and updating web content each MINUTE .

We Should Be Making Smarter Design Recommendations to Our Clients

Some of Our Recomendations Should Be… Do not require immediate registration - ask for name and email address at a minimum, but do not require it until later Do not user long URLS. Users now use http://tinyurl.com/ Turn this URL: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?ovi=1&mqma p.x=300&mqmap.y=75&mapdata=%252bKZmeiIh6N%252bI gpXRP3bylMaN0O4z8OOUkZWYe7NRH6ldDN96YFTIUmSH3Q6 OzE5XVqcuc5zb%252fY5wy1MZwTnT2pu%252bNMjOjsHjvN lygTRMzqazPStrN%252f1YzA0oWEWLwkHdhVHeG9sG6cMrf XNJKHY6fML4o6Nb0SeQm75ET9jAjKelrmqBCNta%252bsKC 9n8jslz%252fo188N4g3BvAJYuzx8J8r%252f1fPFWkPYg% 252bT9Su5KoQ9YpNSj%252bmo0h0aEK%252bofj3f6vCP into this tinyURL: http://tinyurl.com/6
Some of Our Recomendations Should Be… URLs matter - it’s good to have an easy naming convention for URLs. MySpace creates easy-to-remember URLs like http://www.myspace.com/dianaschwartz or http://www.linkedin.com/in/dianasch . Search Box - All web sites must allow users to SEARCH. Add easy Bookmarking - Digg, del.icio.us, and Fark bookmarks. When a web site hits the front page of Digg, page views typically increase by a factor of 6 or 7 times. Contact Us pages should really allow the users to Contact the company, not just by email but by telephone. Sites MUST have RSS feeds, newsletters or email lists to join. Require the re-typing of email addresses AND…
