THE CARTAGENA PROTOCOL - THE CASE FOR ZAMBIAMuunda Mudenda
The Cartagena Protocol is an international treaty that brings together member states, called parties, for the cause of sustainable use biological diversity, safe transfer of living modified organisms, and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits resulting from the use of genetic resources. This document discusses the Zambian National Biosafety Authority (NBA), its origins, role, and how it applies the Cartagena as a member state to the treaty. The discussion will also give insights into the bioethical concerns that led to the implementation of the Biosafety Act in 2007. This is an academic document and it does not claim to be exhaust the subject. Should need to discuss the subject, simply send me an email. Enjoy the read!

What are aflatoxins?
Fungal metabolites (naturally occurring)
Produced by strains of Aspergillus
flavus and A. parasiticus
Toxic to humans and animals
Highly stable compounds, withstand
normal food/feed processing
procedures
The Article analyses on an operative ground the recently adopted reforms in the field of
Official Controls on Foodstuffs in order to highlight some shortage of coherence within
EU Food Law. Being aimed at pursuing a number of different objectives, a high level of
protection of human life and health, the protection of consumers’ interests, including fair
practices in food trade, modern EU Food Law is a very impressive set of rules covering
a large number of aspects of the food business and the activities of public authorities;
at the same time such a big picture may risk being shattered by a decoupling based
overview where the whole scope of Food Law is not properly understood by the
Competent Authorities and the Food Business Operator gets addicted to an esoteric legal
system.
In the last hundred years, the steadily increase in world population has contributed in the growth of global food
production. Food is one of the most consumed goods worldwide, thus waste produced from it is of large quantities.
This significant increase of food waste generation has become a global issue.
About a third of global food production is wasted.
This amounts to 1.3 billion tons per year. This report was presented to FEVIA, the Belgian food industry federation, during a study day on lowering food waste.
An overview of the scale of the problem of food waste around the world and also the problem of hunger and what can be done or what is being done to solve this problem.Various organizations working on this problem is also discussed.certain guidelines are also provided which can be followed by an individual to reduce food waste.

0x01 - Newton's Third Law: Static vs. Dynamic AbusersOWASP Beja
f you offer a service on the web, odds are that someone will abuse it. Be it an API, a SaaS, a PaaS, or even a static website, someone somewhere will try to figure out a way to use it to their own needs. In this talk we'll compare measures that are effective against static attackers and how to battle a dynamic attacker who adapts to your counter-measures.

Some Reflections on Need to Promote an International Code Conduct for Management of Food Losses and Waste
1. SOME REFLECTIONS ON NEED TO
PROMOTE AN INTERNATIONAL CODE
CONDUCT FOR MANAGEMENT OF
FOOD LOSSES AND WASTE
Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la
Agricultura- FAO
2. CODE OF CONDUCT
A set of rules not imposed by laws, regulations or
administrative provisions of a Member State, which
defines the behavior of those actors who commit to
comply with the code in relation to one or more
practices.
FAO codes of conduct and guidelines are soft law
instruments (as opposed to multilateral treaties
which contain binding obligations on State
Parties) adopted by a FAO governing body, such
as CFS, COAG, COFI or COFO.
3. INTERNATIONAL CODE OF CONDUCT
Responsible Fisheries.
The Code directly addresses the need to conserve and manage
the world’s fisheries, given the heavy dependency upon fish by
many communities for their livelihoods; specifically in
providing an important source of food, employment, income
and recreation throughout the world.
1995
4. INTERNATIONAL CODE OF CONDUCT
Pesticide Management
The Code concerns sound pesticide life cycle
management practices; in particular for
government authorities and the pesticide industry.
1985
5. CODE OF CONDUCT
INTERNATIONAL GLOBAL RESPONSE
CONCERNS
Agronomic risks related to inappropriate use
(inefficiency, abuse, misuse, over-dosage,
unauthorized mixtures, pest resurgence,
phytotoxicity, etc.)
Food security and other public health risks
(residues of pesticides in food, exposure)
Environmental risks (water pollution, air, impacts
on biodiversity)
Market access, pesticide residue requirements are
becoming increasingly important in food trade
(legal requirements and private standards of good
agricultural practices)
Pesticide quality. Illegal trade (substandard
products, contraband, forgery of products,
packaging and labels)
6. Guidelines of the International
Code of Conduct of FAO / WHO
Standards of the Codex
Committee on Pesticide
Specification
Residues (Committee of the
Codex Alimentarius Commission)
Globally Harmonized System of
Classification and Labeling of
Chemicals (UN/ECOSOC)
TECHNICAL AND LEGAL GUIDELINES
Standards of the Pesticide
Specificacion: Committee on
Pesticide)
7. CODE OF CONDUCT
INTERNATIONAL GLOBAL RESPONSE
CONCERNS
They reduce the local availability of
food: FOOD SECURITY RISK:
HUNGER, POVERTY
They cause an important waste of
resources and energy
ENVIROMENTAL DAMAGE
1.300 millón
FLW/year…800 millón
with hunger
8. WHY IS AN INTERNATIONAL CODE OF CONDUCT
NECESSARY FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF FLW? (1)
• BRINGING TOGETHER SHARED VISION AND GLOBAL ACTION
STRATEGIES.
• HARMONIZING TERMINOLOGIES AND DEFINITIONS FOR BETTER
UNDERSTANDING.
• ADOPTING FLW MANAGEMENT POLICIES TO HELP REDUCE
HUNGER, POVERTY AND MALNUTRITION.
• A REFERENCE STANDARD IN THE FORMULATION AND ADOPTION OF
FLW REGULATIONS.
• IDENTIFY COMMON CRITICAL POINTS AT EACH STAGE OF THE LIFE
CYCLE OF FOOD.
• IDENTIFYING ACTORS AND THEIR LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY.
• IDENTIFYING INDIVIDUAL AND SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES.
• ARTICULATING EFFORTS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF FLW.
• ENCOURAGING SOLIDARITY WITH CHARITIES AND CHARITABLE
PROGRAMS
9. What aspects should be considered to promote
an International Code of Conduct for FLW? (1)
• WELL-DEFINED LEGAL ISSUES AND GENERAL PRINCIPLES
• REGULATING THE BEHAVIOR AND ATTITUDE OF
PARTICULAR ACTORS IN THE LIFE CYCLE OR FOOD
SUPPLY CHAIN
• ANALYZING RELATED INTERNATIONAL LEGAL
INSTRUMENTS
• IDENTIFYING RULES OF INTEREST AND OTHERS THAT ARE
BEING PREPRARED AND CAN BE ADOPTED.
• INTEGRATING EFFORTS TO REACH A UNIVERSAL GOAL
• FLEXIBLE, ORGANIZED AND SYSTEMATIZED INSTRUMENT
