Lincoln Vs Calhoun
As with Calhoun, Lincoln s notion of the Union and state sovereignty also ties into the principle of
majority rule. However, Lincoln has a far different opinion than Calhoun, arguing that within the
Union, the people, not the states, are the sovereign body, founded on the principle of majority rule.
Furthermore, in Lincoln s opinion, if you have a government based on majority rule, secession
cannot possibly be considered legal or constitutional. While Calhoun fears majority rule will lead to
tyranny and the infringement of the minority s liberty, Lincoln believes it is the foundation of our
government and protects majority will from suppression by a smaller party. Discussing this point
further, Lincoln writes, Unanimity is impossible; the rule of the minority, as a permanent
arrangement, is wholly inadmissible; so that, rejecting the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

All rules, laws, or amendments will produce a majority and minority opinion. Ultimately, while
Calhoun argues that majority rule leads to majority tyranny, Lincoln claims that secession allows
tyranny of the minority by allowing a small group of people to undermine the entire government.
Furthermore, because government is based on majority rule, secession violates both the Union
and Constitution. As Lincoln notes, if all the States, save one, should assert the power to drive
that one out of the Union, it is presumed the whole class of seceding politicians would at once
deny the power, and denounce the act as the greatest outrage against State rights (Lincoln 252).
Lincoln points out the hypocrisy in Calhoun s argument, claiming that if the roles were reversed
and the majority was trying to drive out the minority, advocates of secession would be outraged.
As a whole, Lincoln is a large critic of the views of Calhoun, and presents arguments that are polar
opposites of his ideology regarding the Union and majority

Great Recession And The Great Depression
GREAT ECONOMIC TIMES IN AMERICA
The Great Recession and the Great Depression are the fallout of the exact same economic
problems and are only different in a few respects. Each period is marked by a massive run ups in
asset prices followed by a crash in the stock market and sent both debt and equity markets down.
These periods are said to be the worse economic downturn in the country s history. During the great
depression, as banks failed and threatened to shut down the financial system altogether, President
Franklin Roosevelt moved quickly and effectively to address the most dangerous financial crisis of
the Great depression. The massive stock market collapse that began in October 1929 erased
massive amounts of wealth and because many banks had invested heavily in the markets, and had
lent recklessly to speculative investors, the banks found themselves without sufficient capital and in
many cases without reserves. He created the New Deal which responded to an unemployment rate
that had reached 25 percent, and in some cities as much as 75 percent. He signed the Emergency
Banking Act, which allowed inspectors to evaluate troubled banks and decide whether or not they
could reopen. The Glass Steagall Act created a barrier between commercial and investment banking
and established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which guaranteed that citizens would
not lose their bank deposits even if a bank failed.
Hooverville was a name created after President Hoover, emphasizing

Gilgamesh As An Existential Hero
Incredibly, one of the first recorded written works has much in common with one of the most
modern philosophical movements. Though the Epic of Gilgamesh was written from oral narration
centuries before the philosophy of existentialism was developed, the epic encompasses many of the
main ideas of Sartrean existentialism. Jean Paul Sartre developed existentialism as a characterization
of the human condition, and the movement that followed his ideas formed distinct literary tropes.
Among these is the existential hero, and in this case, the failed existential hero. Initially, Gilgamesh
shows development, becoming more important on a universal scale by becoming essential .
However, Gilgamesh, when faced with the fact of his own mortality, fails to accept it and is
crippled by his own existential dread. Though Gilgamesh elevates himself to a human living with
essence, in the existential view, he is unable to overcome the questions of mortality that plague him
in the aftermath of tragedy.
Existentialism was a philosophic and literary movement that peaked in popularity in the mid 1900
s. First expounded by Sartre, the movement was initially a description of humanity, and attempted
to define what it meant to be human. In defining this, existentialism addressed questions about
human mortality, and the significance of life. One of the main principles in Sartrean existentialism
is the concept that existence precedes essence (Existentialism, Stanford Encyclopedia of

The Iroquois Constitution Purposes And Principles

Essay English 2
The Iroquois Constitution purposes and principles reflect with the sociological function and rules
of my household which will influence me when I become a parent. The Iroquois constitution is seen
as a way to promote peace within the five nations. They demonstrated principles and purpose
through always speaking the truth to a fellow nation, to not be easily hurt by criticism or angered,
through always praising their Gods for the things they have, and to include anyone who agrees to
the constitution, which connects to the sociological function. The rules of my household are
similar in that we are to always be truthful, to always show appreciation for what we have, and to
never let others affect one s values. This will inspire me for when I become a parent. We will see
how the purposes and principles of the Iroquois connect with the sociological function.
Sociological function is represented through the story as they talk about the principles and purpose
in which each nation in the constitution must follow . In the story they talk about the spreading of
their nation and how anyone who wishes to join their constitution will be accepted with open arms.
We see this with the discussion of the Great White Roots, Roots have spread out from the Tree of
the Great Peace, one to the north, one to the east, one to the south and one to the west. The name of

Lawn Prep Research Paper
Homeowners typically think of lawn care in the spring and summer. After all, this is the period
where a healthy lawn, green and full at its peak, is most visible. Establishing health and vitality
is a year around proposition, and a good fall sets up the lawn for a good spring. The main goal in
fall lawn prep is helping grass establish good stores of energy in the root system to boost the
general health of the lawn and to prepare for strong spring growth. Plants adjust their function by
season. As days shorten, energy storage becomes more dominant than leaf growth. The slowing of
growth may look like dormancy so the homeowner may stop watering. The grass is still active, but
reduced watering may push it prematurely into dormancy. Reduce water,

My Fried Baked Chicken
It was a day like any other. My husband was at work; and I was standing stagnantly in my
kitchen, gazing dreadfully at uncooked chicken wings and unbleached flour. My ideal meal
arrangement included fried chicken wings accompanied with Kraft s famous macaroni with
cheese. Comparable to any story the dilemma posed itself, when I noticed that there was no
vegetable oil to fry with. Moreover, I was still fixated on fried chicken. I customarily am the
description of the term strong headed , and having faith, I commenced a search for a new
method of creating a chicken masterpiece. Consequently, I began to ponder for the first time in
my life, why vegetable oil (or any oil) was essential to preparing fried chicken, and if I really
needed it or not. I had been so accustomed to the clichГ© preparation of fried chicken. I knew that
this idea was going to cause me to gain a new perspective, even think out side the chicken box to
achieve the same results as fried chicken from baking it instead. In my opinion, cookingoil is only a
prerequisite concerning any fried food method for two grand reasons: to prevent the food from
sticking to a pan or pot, and lastly so that the food will not burn from sticking to the pot or pan.
Thus I charged myself with the intent to redefine fried chicken. I questioned, did it need to be
fried in oil to be considered fried? What did the term fry even mean? After conscientiously
researching why oil is needed to fry foods I accumulated a list of pros and

Message Complexity Paper
Messages How does one determine the meaning of the world around them? It is not all that simple.
Messages are delivered via symbols amongst other factors such as speech, written documents, etc.
They help an individual assign meaning to the society around them. With that, a message can mean
multiple things depending on the listeners and how it is conveyed. In my case, as a Communication
major, I have learned about messages via speechgiving, readings from Communication textbooks,
and in class notes. My public speaking course (Speech 105), is probably the class, within my major,
that taught me the most about delivering messages. For instance, in the class, the first speech
assigned was an impromptu speech. The other students and I had to select... Show more content on

I could stop watching a television show about astronomy and physics, for the reason that I find it
too complex. Even so, outside of the astronomy case, many complex messages can be made
simpler. This is true of a multitude of day to day interactions. Depending on a person s words,
gestures, etc., a whole message can be altered drastically and made up of many layers. The layering
of messages is a concept that was talked about in this Sophomore Seminar class (Communication
295). Much like an onion, messages can have a multitude of layers. Listeners and/or receivers,
depending on the method the message is delivered in, may interpret a message differently.
Interpretation may even depend on combining multiple meanings to construct a final connotation.
Furthermore, the way one understands a message, depends mostly on the way the message is
received to begin

Theme Of Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
We always hear about communication and language as a theme but we do not think about how the
lack of communication can affect characterization and connections. In the novel, Extremely Loud
Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer displays just that. He also shows how communication is
important in everyday life. In the novel, many relationships are made and damaged due to how
people communicate and how they decide to deal with their obstacles. All the major characters,
along with few minor characters, have to face troubles that test their relationship with not only the
other characters in the story but within themselves.
The first hint towards the theme occurs when Oskar goes to the art store and talks to the
manager. She tells him very few details about the man who came in and wrote Thomas Schell on
all the pieces of paper. Had she been able to reveal more about physical description, he would not
think it was his dad, although he would still wonder why someone wrote his father s name. Thomas
Schell Sr. finds everyday conversations difficult and tedious so it is no surprise that the manager
did not have any socialization with him.
By Thomas Sr. being non verbal, it is showing his long lasting emotional pain I have not always
been silent, I used to talk and talk and talk and talk, I could not keep my mouth shut, the silence
overtook me like a cancer . When he does express what he needs to say towards Grandma, Foer s
audience can tell Thomas is not as emotionally open

The Influence Of Paul In All Quiet On The Western Front
In the midst of World War One, Paul and his friends join the German Army disillusioned by the
glories it brings with it. However, Paul soon realizes the pains of wars that tear youth and joy from
men and makes a promise: to fight against the meaningless hatred that pits generations of men
against each other, if he can get out alive. Erich Maria Remarques novel, All Quiet on the Western
Front, follows Paul as he realizes that war is not all it seems and through a series of events on the
frontlines, he begins to fight against what the war stands for.
For Paul and his fellow comrades to survive the gruesomeness of the front, Paul comments how
[e]very conceivable method of parade ground soldiering is used to become hard, suspicious,
pitiless vicious, tough (26). The gruesome training shows how Paul is changing. His original young

connection between source and destination, through which all packet data AND packet headers
are encrypted. However, before TLS gets involved, Dubh s source machine must first establish a

Buying A Buffalo Wild Wings Franchise Fee
An easier alternative to starting a business from scratch is purchasing an already established one.
This can be achieved through purchasing a franchise, a business that follows an already
established model. Before one purchases a franchise, they must obtain specific information to
know whether or not the venture is worth it. One franchise that is growing in popularity is
Buffalo Wild Wings. Although it is growing in popularity and success, is purchasing a Buffalo
Wild Wings franchise worth it? The first question one must ask is about the initial franchise fee,
the amount a franchisee pays up front when obtaining a franchise. Buffalo Wild Wings franchise
fee is $40,000. This fee covers a variety of services provided by the franchisor. When looking for a
location, Buffalo Wild Wings provides site selection assistance and guidance; as well as
professional layout, blueprint, design, and construction document review and analysis. They also
provide equipment and supplier lists, and they provide assistance in obtaining needed licenses
(liquor license). They also provide comprehensive pre opening assistance and a restaurant opening
training package. Once the venture begins, they provide ongoing guidance in marketing, operating,
and financing. They also provide scheduled visits from a Franchisee Consultant, who is able to
provide guidance and advice to the franchisee. Finally, they provide further training for any
employees the franchisee may have. The next important aspect is

immediate success of Nintendos Pokemon Go could be the start of a wild turnaround for a
company that has been struggling as sales of its most recent game console, the WiiU flopped due to
fierce competition from rivals such as Microsoft s Xbox One and Sony s PlayStation 4. Nintendo

Pokemon Go has increased the market share of Nintendo through having a revolutionary
gameplay, that involves various techniques of marketing, appealing to a large range of people.
With recent technologies improving on the idea and practicality of virtual reality, Pokemon Go
capitalizes on this thought and makes it a reality. By letting users catch Pokemon in physical
settings, they no longer have to play through just a screen. Pokemon Go has done what no
government program in the last decade has been able to do: encourage users to go out and
exercise. Not only do users have to physically walk distances to evolve and hatch their Pokemon,
but they also must be able to interact and socialize with other trainers. It is a multiplayer game that
promotes teamwork, as well as social interaction. Nostalgia, coupled with revolutionary gaming
technologies, has launched this age old game into a new era. The chain s success with Pokemon

Double Use Of Performative Essay
This paper will compare the use of the performative two poems: The Lake Isle of Innisfree by W.
B. Yeats and Digging by Seamus Heaney. Both these poems will be analyzed individually and in
comparison with one another on several themes, being performativity and desire. The main subject
is how desire is expressed through the performative in both poems. First, a brief explanation of the
performative as defined by Bennett and Royle. A performative is a statement which constitutes an
action, thus it does not only describes an action but also preforms the action. An utterance as I now

Even (or especially) with its title, a literary text has begun to promise. (Bennett Royle 2016.
313). This quote of Bennett Royle can be applied to the title of Heaney s poem. The poem starts
off with a performative, namely its title, and hereby promises that the poem will dig. And
digging is exactly what the poem is doing the whole time. The performative act of the poem is
that the speaker is digging throughout it, but rather than digging with a spade, he is using his
pen to do it. The poem expresses the speaker s desire to keep digging, like his father and
grandfather did, but he wants to do it in a different way. That he is not going to dig with a spade,
becomes apparent in the last two lines of the poem The squat pen rests. I ll dig with it. (Heaney
1966, 2953) . Furthermore, the last line is actually a performative: he is not merely stating it, but
he will actually do it. On the second line, Heaney refers to his pen as a gun: The squat pen rests;
snug as a gun. (Heaney 1966, 2953). It demonstrates that he does not see his pen as just a pen , but
as his instrument, his weapon. By choosing his pen, Heaney is not digging in the sense of
unearthing or burying. The act of digging also means the act of remembering, this will be further
explained later in this

Natural imagery is used in Departures and in When the Emperor was Divine to show emotions.
This was done through the use of stones and leaves. In Departures, Daigo gave a stone to Mika

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Thesis

Television shows have often been a popular source of entertainment with its dynamic characters,
exciting plot twists, and unexpected cliffhangers. Viewers are now able to enjoy a dramatically
increasing variety of television shows with diverse genres. One show, in particular, has introduced
several new and original ideas to both television shows and movies after its premiere: Buffy the
Vampire Slayer. Joss Whedon s adaptation of Buffy the VampireSlayer has influenced science
fiction television shows and movies by inspiring a long arc plot style in current television shows,
introducing LGBTQ characters to television, becoming an inspiration which helped increase the

Buffy the Vampire Slayer s debut in 1997 reinforces the concept that ...since the late 1990s/early
2000s, the sympathetic vampire...has become distinctly more common in popular fiction and
film than the monstrous stereotype as a vicious killer (qtd. in Parke and Wilson 179).
Throughout the Buffy series, one of Buffy s main love interests has been Angel, an outcast
vampire who has empathy for humans (e.g., he does not harm humans unless provoked, he
protects Buffy and her friends from other vampires). As opposed to the other vampires in Buffy,
Angel has a soul and experiences guilt for his past crimes. Writer Lorna Jowett (of Buffy, Dark
Romance and Female Horror Fans) introduces the idea that Buffy the Vampire Slayer has
impacted science fiction (paranormal, in particular) by a theme of dark romance : ...its male
protagonists are powerful and dangerous, often presented as stereotypical bad boys, and the
fact that they are vampires or werewolves positions them naturally , both monstrosity and
masculinity (qtd in Stuller 92). A notable bad boy in Buffy is the vampire, Spike: he is a
soulless and sadistic who eventually rebels against the Anointed One (a supernatural being who
is prophesized to lead vampires into power). Although Spike is portrayed as a merciless killer,
he is devoted to his first lover (Drusilla) although his commitment to her was not reciprocal and
reveals a softer side of himself to Buffy when he helps her cope with her death and resurrection.
Although Buffy and Spike develop a romantic relationship, he accepts that she will never be able
to fully return his feelings. Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries is strongly influence and
essentially mirrors Spike s bad boy characteristics: similar to Spike, he is a selfish rebel whose
actions are solely meant to benefit himself. Damon also

Actual performance should be rigorously compared with planned performance and steps identified
to make improvements and close the gap between the two.
2. Review whether the actions taken are achieving the desired effect in terms of sales and margins.
This is important due to the frequent changes in the retail market: trends and consumption patterns
are constantly changing, competitors are launching campaigns, new products are introduced, and
so on. Because of these external factors, it may happen that a change in assortment, pricing or
promotion does not achieve the desired effect and a correction needs to be made as quickly as
possible. A category management dashboard with the right key performance indicators (KPIs) and
up to date data is an essential tool for tracking the success of category management actions.

Essay On Genetic Change
( removed HTML ) How is the Field of Human Genetics Changing? ( removed HTML )
Compared to just fifteen years ago the applications and horizons of genetic science have expanded
enormously, far beyond simply describing how DNA contributes to the formation of life here on
earth. The most important practical advances have built on the completion of the Human Genome
Project in 2003, started in 1990. At the associated research cost of over $3 billion US dollars
(c.$2.7 billion actual), a combined research initiative succeeded in fully sequencing the genomic
makeup of one human.
The prototype for human gene sequencing via chemical analysis that this process gave to science
has been refined over the last decade. Continuous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The complete implications and structure of our individual, unique genetic codes are still not
fully understood. However, genetic sequencing and research in the biological sciences have
opened up the potential to diagnose and treat genetic illnesses and key health vulnerabilities
through sequencing analysis at all stages of life. Doctors are better placed to identify the root
genetic causes of disorders and illnesses, as advances in associating certain bits of genetic code
to certain outcomes have expanded the number of known genetic links to maladies from 60 in
1990 to over 5000 (as of 2013). Future analysis of so called junk DNA with no obvious associations
to gene expression will form a large part of raising that number even further.
Individual genomic analysis allows for better targeted medication and the identification of tumor
causing DNA code. Pre natal genetic screening for genetic disorders and disabilities in a fetus can
also be performed via blood testing, reducing the need for other, invasive forms of medical testing.
The newly developed gene editing tool, CRISPR, also offers the possibility of eliminating or
changing defective genomic sections easily. While designer babies may still be science fiction,
these recent advances in genetic technology have taken us much closer to the possibility and ethical
implications of creating bespoke human beings.
From this, it seems that genetic

Themes Of Herman Wharton sEthan Forme And Billy Budd
Life is not always black and white, and sometimes in many situations it is hard to either be right
or wrong. In situation like this, it often feels like staying in the middle or in the gray area is the
easiest and only options. Such examples are these two amazing novels Ethan Forme and Billy
Budd . Both of these novels are amazing literary works that presents us with characters those are
hard to label as only right or only wrong, thus required more understanding if their situations to
wither consider them as right or wrong. Ethan Forme written by Edith Wharton s is a love story
between a confused and isolated married man and a young not so realistic woman who is in love
with her cousin s husband against all odds. Also the novelBilly Budd written by Herman Melvilleis
about a youth of outstanding beauty and sincere kindness, he exhibits ingenuous innocence
reflecting his lack of awareness that evil exists. . Major themes in Ethan Fromeinclude the power of
love, silence, isolation, illusion, and the consequences that are the result of living according to the
rules of society and not following their hearts; where the major themes in Billy Budd includes
Innocence, duty, sin , truth, morality ethics, wisdom and knowledge and loyalty. Wharton relies on
personal experiences to relate her thematic messages. Even though both of these novels are plotted
differently, yet quite similar with the main ideas. For starters, one of the most important themes of

The Myth Of Atalant The Hero s Journey By Joseph Campbell
When you want to understand ancient culture you don t only need to understand what they did,
their activities, or what they ate, you need to understand the myths and stories from those ancient
cultures. Joseph Campbell wrote that even if most myths are different and have different heroes,
they all follow the same path of The Hero s Journey. In the myth of Atalanta, the Heroine from the
Myth of Atalanta, Atalanta, does indeed follow all the three stages of The Hero s Journey by
Joseph Campbell: Departure, Decisive Victory, and The Return.
Atalanta begins the Hero s Journey with Departure. Departure means that a hero ventures forth to

The Theory Of Scientific Revolutions
In my essay I plan to argue that Thomas Kuhn was incorrect when he presented his theory that no
paradigm is better than any other paradigm and how he believed that people who occupy different
paradigms are in different universes, in his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. I believe
that there is no valid deductive or inductive support for incommensurability, there are examples
against it throughout the history of sciencethat do not exhibit the discontinuity and replacement of
paradigms, as Kuhn s incommensurability thesis predicts, but rather continuity and
supplementation. If this is correct, then there are no compelling epistemic reasons to believe that
Kuhn s incommensurability thesis is true or probable. The argument that the point of the same
kind terms changes or ceases from one theoretical context to another, it does not fundamentally
mean that these two abstract frameworks are taxonomically or methodologically
incommensurable. Kuhn s theory takes a relativist stance and uses it to make all theories and
paradigms equal with none being better than the other. This poses a major problem because the
hope of scientific research is best said as For a realist conception of scientific progress also wishes
to assert that, by and large, later science improves on earlier science, in particular by approaching
closer to the truth. This means that all realist scientist hope that by advancing our scientific
knowledge we will eventually come closer to the truth about

The Modern Age Of Islam
The Islamic world has tried to become strong again through both secularism and religion, with
neither answer showing a complete, absolute advantage over the other. This is shown through Atta
Turk completely removing Islam out of the newly formed Turkish society, the Baath Party s secular
ideology while still committing massacre, and Hezbollah using a radicalized form of religionto gain
political strength.
The beginning of the modern age of Islam can be marked with Napoleon s conquest of Egypt and
the subsequent conquest by Britain. This defeat indicated to the leaders of the Islamic world that
not only were they defeated by a Western power, but also by an inferior Western power. Thus,
leaders of the Islamic world, such as Muhammad Ali and al Afghani said that to create a successful
society, we must emulate the West to become strong. This ideology held largely throughout the
Islamic world until the creation of Israel. When Israel fought and destroyed Arab nations in the Six
Days War, secular governments were no longer as widely accepted, leading to the creation of
Islamic states and the further progression of Islamic Fundamentalism. Islamic Fundamentalism uses
radicalized Islam, which can usually be traced directly back to Wahhabism, to try and gain power
and political influence over the region through terror. This clearly corrupted thought clashes with
the secular, although also in many cases corrupted, powers of the world. These opposing viewpoints
show that there is no

Hyperfunctional Voice Disorders Research Paper Outline
Hyperfunctional Voice Disorders
Hyperfunctional voice disorders are voice problems that happen when uncontrollable tightening
(spasm) prevents the vocal cords from working properly. Vocal cords normally move back and
forth to make sounds when air passes through the voice box (larynx). If you have a
hyperfunctional voice disorder, the area of the brain that controls vocal cord movement does not
send the right signals. This causes the vocal cords to spasm. Hyperfunctional voice disorders might
also be referred to as muscle tension dysphonia.
Sometimes the spasms force the vocal cords open when they should be closed. This makes you
lose your voice. Sometimes the spasms cause the vocal cords to close too tightly. This makes your
voice sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DIAGNOSIS
You may be diagnosed with a hyperfunctional voice disorder based on:
Your symptoms.
Your medical history.
A physical exam to check your larynx and evaluate your speech.
Procedures that are done to:
в—‹ Examine your throat with a scope that has a tiny camera on the end (laryngoscope). The scope
projects images onto a monitor (direct laryngoscopy).
в—‹ Examine the movement of your vocal cords in the reflection of a mirror (indirect
laryngoscopy).
в—‹ Check the movement of your vocal cords in slow motion, using a special flickering light
(laryngeal stroboscopy).
в—‹ Test the electrical activity of your larynx muscles (electromyography or EMG).
You may also see a health care provider who specializes in conditions of the ear, nose, and throat
(otolaryngologist or ENT specialist) or conditions of the nervous system (neurologist).
TREATMENT
There is no cure for this condition. The goal of treatment is to relieve symptoms and improve the
quality of your voice. Treatment depends on the specific type of voice disorder you have, and may
include:
Injections of botulinum toxin to block the brain signals that cause your vocal cords to spasm.
These injections need to be repeated because the effects last only 3 4

Dogma Rules Add “Character” to Italian for Beginners
Dogma Rules Add Character to Italian for Beginners Art films are different from mainstream films
in many aspects including acting, plot, and setting. Art filmmakers use different techniques to
distinguish their films from mainstream films. The movement away from mainstream filmmaking
occurred through the creation of the Dogma Manifesto. Dogma 95 was a set of rules for film
production that forced filmmakers to innovate through new methods of filmmaking. One such film
created according to the rules of Dogma 95 is Italian for Beginners. Although Italian for Beginners
does not follow all of the aesthetic rules of Dogma film production, the characters and their stories

He conveys these through simple responses, for example, when he shies away from women and
the way he carries himself. These little reactions give us a deeper look into the feelings of the
character. This looseness is part of Dogma films and the new attitude toward filming... they shoot
not only many takes of the same scene but also improvised and alternative takes (Schepelern 87).
Therefore, the actor cannot base his or her character on the events that will occur. The actor must
establish a character and try to evoke emotions. This results in characters that are not typical and
predictable. As a Dogma film, Italian for Beginners, was distinct from acting in other films and
the predictability of characters in those films. This film was original because the actors were
allowed to innovate. The Dogma movement gave actors the freedom and environment they
needed to evoke a response from the audience. Mainstream films are also starting to focus more
on characters and narrative than in the past (Schepelern 98). Perhaps, in the future other aspects
of Dogma 95 will be used more widely. If wide use of Dogma techniques occurs, film producers
will look for other ways to adapt filmmaking. Filmmaking has gone through many changes over the
years, such as the New Wave movements, Dogma and_________. Writers and producers have
looked for ways to make their films standout and they will most likely continue to be inventive in

Self Esteem And Eating Disorders
Throughout history, women have transformed their appearances to match the current beauty
ideal. Today, the idea of being a size zero has transformed itself from a trend into being an
obsession. The fascination to be thin and perfect has invaded the minds of women and girls all
over the world, it feels as if the pressure to have the perfect body everywhere. The ideals of beauty
have been constantly focussed on women s bodies. It s gone from the boyish figure during the
roaring twenties to an hourglass figure that swept the 1930s and 1950s. Every year beauty standards
change and continue to impact women s lives.
Many sources talked about self esteem and eating disorders relating to the pressure for the perfect
body throughout young girls and women. Other sources focused on the misleading influence of
media on women and girls. In one article, Body Image Dissatisfaction: Gender Differences in
Eating Attitudes, Self Esteem, and Reasons for Exercise (Furnham, Badmin, Sneade), it talked
about women and how they are more likely to judge themselves about their weight or size than
men would. It also talked about the different struggles that men and women go through with their
bodies. The article, Perfect Body Image , talked about what people are seeing in the news as being
perfect. It also brings up the dangers of people thinking and being pressured into these standards.
Dangers such as Anorexia, Bulimia, and other eating disorders, are becoming more and more

Texas has always been proud of their heritage and their industry. The boost in the economy is much

apparent that Texas government must take measures to improve the regulatory agencies so that the

Analysis Of Acquainted With The Night
In Company of the Moon and Inner Sorrow, Acquainted with the Night
In Robert Frost s poem, Acquainted with the Night , there is a sense of melancholic loneliness of
which the speaker seems to be content with. The reader sees a glimpse of his perpetual depression
on a habitual night time walk. He starts by saying he is one acquainted with the night (line 1). He
feels a sort of companionship with this time of day. Ironically enough, while most everyone else
is asleep and quiet, he feels a sense of belonging. The speaker personifies the city through
parallels of his own lonely depression. Having walked out in rain and back in rain shows that
despite the weather, he is persistent in his practice (line 2). The rain is symbolic of a gloomy
mood or even a rough patch in one s life. In this case, the rain is parallel to his actuality. As it
rains for an extended period, we can infer that the persona has suffered with depression for some
time. Underlying causes of his sadness are not clear. However, the reader gets the impression he
lives a life alone. His sense of being is encompassed in the imagery of the somber city streets. He
is lonely, a continual moment of subtle dread haunts his life. The repetition of the phrase, I have ,
at the beginning of the first four lines is significant as it shows all he experiences on these walks.
The walk seems to be a nightly ritual, perhaps a way to clear his thoughts. Insomnia is often linked
with feelings of emptiness in a depressed

Values Of Anglo Saxon Values
Anglo Saxon Values that still hold true Today. What are values? Values are things which are
important to one, and will determine one s priorities. During the Anglo Saxon era, there were
values which remain the same till this day. Loyalty and courage play a big roll in today s values,
as much as it did during the Anglo Saxon time. One of the Anglo Saxon values still holding true
today will have to be loyalty. One might wonder, what exactly is loyalty? Loyalty is being faithful
to something or someone, or in shorter words, always sticking to a person or thing no matter what
the situation is. Beowulfshows his loyalty when he states he will not shift a foot (2524) because
he cannot break his word. Wiglaf understands this loyalty to one s reputation and how it is linked to
being a warrior. (2890 1) A warrior will sooner die than live a life of shame Beowulf hands Wiglaf
his collar of gold, his war shirt, and his helmet and tells him to use them well showing an act of
loyalty. Is the public loyal? Do the peopleshow loyalty? If the people think about it, the public can
all relate to Beowulf. Every person must have a person or a thing who they are loyal to. It doesn t
even have to be between people, one can be loyal to what they put their self into, maybe school or
work. If a person gives all his loyalty to their career or job then it will all pay off. For example, in

What Is The Importance Of Gender And Sexuality In African...
In African American studies, the scholarship of gender and sexuality is largely based in the
intellectual tradition that grew out of the civil rights movements of the 1960s and 1970s. With a
discourse that historically examines the behaviors, conditions, and attitudes that foster stereotypes
of social roles based on class oppression, sex, and genderidentity as social constructs found to be
inextricably bound together, the inclusion of gender and sexuality in African American studies
reaches back to include the work of such diverse social and cultural activists as Anna Julia Cooper,
Ida B. Wells, and Sojourner Truth. Working to situate the rights of all black people
in a place of
woman inclusive equality, the scholarship moves forward through the work of activist intellectuals
that include Elise Johnson McDougald, and Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, who urged political
action for black women as a form of physical and political protection. Moving forward, the fight for
academic inclusion of African American studies broadened the examination of race, gender, and
sexuality beyond the feminismthat writer Alice Walker suggests emphasizes women s natural
contribution to society (Walker, 2005).

Visual Effects And Its Effects On Modern Films
Visual Effects Pipelines
The film making process in modern films is a lot more complex than it has ever been.
Even the simplest of films require a large amount of crew and equipment, but none of these
processes has advanced the state of cinema as visual effects has. It says a lot that the highest
grossing films of all time are heavily driven by visual effects, one can infer that visual effects are
now a major part of storytelling. The majority of films contain visual effects, even when you don t

Does the actor look unusually younger than usual? Most of these are invisible effects, often shot in

required chasing down information. Now the information would be organized, and anything that

matter.
Conflict arises
The moment we tried putting this into practice, artists soon began to realize that the

Theodore Roosevelt Foreign Policy Essay
I believe the President who defined American foreign policy most significantly in the twentieth
century was Theodore Roosevelt. He was an imperialist who worked towards a goal of global
power. From gaining ownership over the Panama Canal to protecting Latin American countries
from the threat of European powers, Roosevelt s policies earned the name Big Stick Diplomacy .
This policy relied upon military intimidation to achieve U.S goals. The first example of Theodore
Rooseveltusing his Big Stick policy was his influence on the Panama Canal. He dispatched U.S
warships to support Panamanian rebels against Colombian rule. After Panama declared its
independence, it granted the U.S control over the canal zone. The Panama Canal was an imperative

Snow Covers
Kotlyak et al. (1997) describe the snow cover regime all over the world based on regular ground
observation data from the 1960s to the 1980s. Spatial distribution of the number of snow

macro slope relative to trajectories of major moisture flow, and latitude. The latitudinal gradient for
N_sn is 5 to 9.5 days / degree with a mean of 8 days / degree for the Northern Hemisphere,
comparable with the value (~ 9 days / degree for areas below 3000 m) reported for CA in this study.

characteristics, including SCD, SCD_ES and SCD_LS (same as SCD, SCOD and SCMD in this

catchment groups. Trends of the summary statistics were analyzed using Mann Kendal test. The
results show that SCMD shifted earlier significantly in upstream catchments of Amu Dar ya and
Syr Dar ya, as well as in the elevation range between 2500 and 3200 m, which is in agreement
with our previous work and the results of this study in general. It is reported that SCOD moved

catchment group or elevation zone, which differs from our findings. In this study, within the
boundary of CARs, significantly decreased SCD was observed in mountainous areas of Tien Shan
and Pamir, while only patches in WP and WT experienced SCOD shifted earlier. The disagreement
might come from the different temporal overage of the two studies, or more probably the different
calculation unit used when conducting trend test. As shown in our results, the trend of change for
snow cover statistics exhibits large spatial variability. Calculating the trends of change at catchment
groups and 100 m elevation zones within the political boundaries might

unpleasant by the government. Although the government tried all it could to diminish the
movement, the suffragettes put their message out there and the movement did not slow down even
through World War I. Despite the women s torture and mistreatment while fasting, they were heard

Dred Scott Case Summary
The Dred Scott decision was a landmark Supreme Court decision on slavery in 1857. Dred Scott
was a slave who sued for his freedom after living in Illinois and Wisconsin Territory where
slavery was banned. Mr. Scott argued that he should be free since he had lived on free soil. The
Supreme Court was to decide three questions: should a black person be considered a citizen and
have the ability to sue in court, Did residence in a free state make Mr. Scott free? Did Congress
possess the power to prohibit slavery in a territory? The Court was divided on these questions and
each Justice issued an opinion. Chief Justice, Roger B. Taney, declared that only white persons
could be citizens . He insisted that the founding fathers believed that

Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United Stated of America, was born on March 15,
1767 and died on June 8, 1845 in Nashville, Tennessee. Jackson s parents Andrew and Elizabeth
Hutchinson Jackson were Presyberitains, Scots Irish settlers whom in 1765 emigrated from
Ireland. Andrew s birthplace is deduced to have been at one of his uncles houses in the Waxhaw s
area between North Carolina and South Carolina, his exact whereabouts is unknown. Jackson s
mother emigrated across the Appalachian Mountains after burying her husband. Jackson s father
died three weeks before he was born in a logging accident. His mother, Elizabeth Hutchinson
Jackson was a strong independent woman who was able to raise her three sons while they lived...

He moved to Salisbury, North Carolina, where he studied law by apprenticing with prominent
lawyers. In September 1787, after three years of studying law, Jackson was admitted to the
North Carolina Bar and received his license to practice law in Jonesborough (now part in
Tennessee). To supplement his income, he also worked in small town general stores. While
living in North Carolina, Jackson gained a reputation for being charismatic, wild, and
ambitious. (The Jackson Family, www.thehermitage.com/jackson family/andrew jackson/early
life) pg1. Jackson married Rachel Donelson in 1794. Rachel had been previously married to
Lewis Robards on March 1, 1785. In 1790 she was living an unhappy marriage because of Lewis
unreasonable jealousy and completely departed from him. She then moved back with her
mother to Nashville, Tennessee where she had already met Andrew in November of 1788. They
got married in 1791 but she discovered she wasn t actually divorced so they got remarried in
1794. On December 22, 1828, two months before Jackson s presidential inauguration, Rachel died
of a heart attack. Jackson and Rachel had no biological children but always lived at The Hermitage
an expansive plantation in Davidson County, Tennessee (near Nashville). In 1808, they adopted one
set of twins from Rachel s brother Stevern Donelson and his wife Elizabeth and raised him as their
own. They named him Andrew Jackson Junior. Andrew Junior and his twin, Thomas Jefferson

Resistance To Affirmative Action
Resistance to affirmative action has existed from the time it was introduced (Allen, 2011;
Kaufmann, 2007), and in many instances, the U.S. Supreme Court has played a crucial role in
determining the extent to which it can achieve its original goals (Zamani Brown, 2003). One of the
earliest cases to challenge the use of affirmative actionwas DeFunis v. Odegaard (1973), of which
the court found the University of Washington Law School s use of race in admissions to be
unconstitutional (Platt, 2007; Zamani Brown, 2003). The law school was accused of having
separate admissions procedures for students of color by giving less weight to their predicted first
year averages. As such, DeFunis argued that underqualified students of color had been... Show more

Kirwan (1994), a federal court ruled on the constitutionality of race based merit scholarships. In this
case, the merit based Benjamin Banneker Scholarship, earmarked for African American students,
sought to attract academically talented African American students to the University of Maryland at
College Park. The court ruled it was not permissible to maintain separate financial merit awards
according to race (Shapiro, 1995), illustrating the increasing difficulties postsecondary institutions
faced to designate a fellowship or scholarship specifically for racial/ethnic minorities (Platt, 2007).
In fact, efforts to prohibit affirmative action in the United States really ramped up in the mid 1990
s. For instance, in 1996 the Supreme Court upheld California s Proposition 209, an amendment to
the state constitution that banned both discrimination and affirmative action programs that give
preferences to groups or individuals based on their race, gender, color, ethnicity, or national
origin. To that end, race could not be used as a consideration (e.g., admissions and hiring
decisions) in public education (Alvarez Bedolla, 2004). In addition, in Hopwood v. Texas (1996),
the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision ending affirmative action in both private and
public college admissions in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. More litigation continued in 1997
(Gratz v. Bollinger and Grutter v. Bollinger) that challenged the use of affirmative action in
undergraduate and law school admissions, and in 1998, Washington voters passed Initiative 200, a
nearly identical policy to Prop. 209. In 1999, Florida Governor Jeb Bush pre issued an executive
order ending consideration of race and ethnicity in public college and university admissions, public
employment, and government contracting. Such attacks on affirmative action policies are
prompting colleges and universities to abandon race sensitive programs, such as scholarships,
academic enrichment programs,

B2C and B2B Marketing Comparison
B2C and B2B Marketing Comparison Marketing ultimately depends on who you are delivering
your message to. With Business to Business (B2B), an organization has to know the businesses
needs, its current situation, competitors, trends, technology and costs. Business to Commerce
(B2C) is also about knowing who you re selling to. You have to know their wants and needs, your
competition, distribution, supply chains and costs. Often, B2B sites are more informational and
technical. There is less branding, or at least a different kind. It is not so much an emotional
connection as an intellectual connection. B2C sites are more entertainment. They often change with
promotions and products, and are made simpler for ease of navigation for the common... Show more

For example, a vice president of manufacturing does not clip a coupon and order a $45,000
machine by mail. He would first ask the selling organization for an informative brochure. Then a
sales meeting would occur if the buying organization is slightly interested. Then a
demonstration would be the beginning of a 30 day trial period for the buying organization. If
the buyer is satisfied then a proposal or contract would be conjured up. Therefore, it is not a
single piece of advertisement that wins a pricey contract. It takes a series of letters, brochures,
presentations, ads, and mailers combined with the efforts of sales associates to find a steady
paying customer that will contribute to organizational longevity. When considering to buy
personal hygiene items or groceries, now one consults with a team on the purchase. In almost all
B2C selling situations, the purchase decision is made by an individual. But a business purchase
is usually a team effort with many experts involved. Because of this reason, a business purchase
is hardly an impulse buy. There are many influences involved with the decision such as the
purchasing agent and company president, to technical professionals and customers. Each of these
reviewers has different concerns and criteria by which they judge the product or service. In order
to make a successful purchase, all of the reviewer s standards must be met. Overall, in order to
succeed, business owners must attract and retain a growing base of

The Gift of Fear
The Gift Of Fear, a psychology book written by Gavin De Becker, is an extremely useful and
informative read. It gives valuable advice about how to act upon human intuition, how to
recognize threats, and defines what real fear is and it s purpose. I found the book to be extremely
interesting. This book provided me with a sense of understanding on violence and fear and I feel
much better prepared when it comes to recognizing dangerous situations.
My favorite part of the book was the warning signs to know when a stranger is a potential threat.
This was fascinating to me because I ve been told since I was just a little boy to beware of
strangers. But with all these warnings about strangers I had never been told how to recognize when a

When a person gets that gut feeling that something just isn t right, it should never be ignored.
Our natural human intuition is giving us that gut feeling for a reason. And that sensation of
danger can save lives. One example of how human intuition works was given in the book; a man
walked into a convenience store, had a gut feeling he needed to get out of there, left, and found
out later that day the convenience store had been robbed and the cashier had been shot and
killed. This seemingly random feeling of danger that spared this mans life was not random at
all. His intuition let him know to have fear because the cashier looked as if he was fearful when
the man walked into the store and also there was a second nervous looking customer wearing a
long concealing jacket while it was hot outside. His intuition let him know that there was a
potentially dangerous situation even if he wasn t looking for the signs that were there. This
applies to my life because everybody can experience these gut feelings from human intuition; I
know now to act upon them and to never ignore them because they have the capability to save
your life. One thing I learned about fear is that it can basically act for us. With fear humans can
make critical decisions that they wouldn t dare make without fear edging them on. A story that
particularly shocked me was the story of a young woman named Kelly. She followed her

The Law-Followers Of Romanticism
Power is concerned with who creates and who follows law. The Law Makers can be anyone, or
anything, because power has anarchic in nature and will only go to the leading initiator, which was
the British monarchy before the Romantic era. What changed was the radical notion of common
people and their importance to society during industrialization. Romanticism revolutionized the
way common people viewed the world (and themselves) through nature, the universe and everyday
life. It connected the world and led to the greatest notion of the modern day the idea that the
people are both the Law Makers and Law Followers, thus equalizing power and creating a spirit of
democracythat lasts until today. The idea of life within nature distinguishes the... Show more content

It is the sad truth of the major population today you eat, you work, you die. The old man narrating
these words is explaining the sad story of a widowed mother, a title not uncommon today. This
poem is just the sad story of a woman that lost her husband to war and her children because,
ultimately, there just wasn t enough money to sustain them all. Again, this is an example of
Romantic poetry connecting the common people through ethic and sympathy. What radicalized
the world as they knew it during Romanticism and everyday since was the use of blank verse for
topics as mundane and commonplace as nature and a widow. These seemingly normal topics are
being discussed through blank verse, or iambic pentameter. The most elated form of writing, and
speech, of that day was used for the commoners, thus balancing everyone in society. There was
no longer a set higher class or lower class speech dialect everyone was the same. This poetry
demolished the upper class and elevated the common folks dignity by allowing them to speak and
read in their stories through the words of the powerful. This dramatic reimagining of the ordinary is
what connected society during the Romantic era and is the fundamental basis of the spirit of

The students were encouraged to identify and note the colors, shapes, and lines in Vincent van
Gogh s piece, Irises. After reviewing the original piece, the students can start creating their own
crayon resistant art. The most interesting thing about this lesson to me was that it was created for
children with autism. I have a binder that I put special education and autism accommodations and
school assignment ideas in because I am majoring in it. I really enjoy when the author of the
assignment relates the project back to an original piece, because it allows students to appreciate
pieces of art that they normally would not. However, I fel this assignment is almost a little to
difficult for Kindergarten aged students. The book suggested to be used in the assignment,
Camille and the Sunflowers: A Story About Vincent van Gogh is aimed for children reading at a
higher first grade level. So, I would probably try it once with the children and see if they truly
understood what the overall goal was. I would like to try this project in maybe a first or second
grade setting where the students are old enough to take information away from the

  • 2. Lincoln Vs Calhoun As with Calhoun, Lincoln s notion of the Union and state sovereignty also ties into the principle of majority rule. However, Lincoln has a far different opinion than Calhoun, arguing that within the Union, the people, not the states, are the sovereign body, founded on the principle of majority rule. Furthermore, in Lincoln s opinion, if you have a government based on majority rule, secession cannot possibly be considered legal or constitutional. While Calhoun fears majority rule will lead to tyranny and the infringement of the minority s liberty, Lincoln believes it is the foundation of our government and protects majority will from suppression by a smaller party. Discussing this point further, Lincoln writes, Unanimity is impossible; the rule of the minority, as a permanent arrangement, is wholly inadmissible; so that, rejecting the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All rules, laws, or amendments will produce a majority and minority opinion. Ultimately, while Calhoun argues that majority rule leads to majority tyranny, Lincoln claims that secession allows tyranny of the minority by allowing a small group of people to undermine the entire government. Furthermore, because government is based on majority rule, secession violates both the Union and Constitution. As Lincoln notes, if all the States, save one, should assert the power to drive that one out of the Union, it is presumed the whole class of seceding politicians would at once deny the power, and denounce the act as the greatest outrage against State rights (Lincoln 252). Lincoln points out the hypocrisy in Calhoun s argument, claiming that if the roles were reversed and the majority was trying to drive out the minority, advocates of secession would be outraged. As a whole, Lincoln is a large critic of the views of Calhoun, and presents arguments that are polar opposites of his ideology regarding the Union and majority ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Great Recession And The Great Depression GREAT ECONOMIC TIMES IN AMERICA The Great Recession and the Great Depression are the fallout of the exact same economic problems and are only different in a few respects. Each period is marked by a massive run ups in asset prices followed by a crash in the stock market and sent both debt and equity markets down. These periods are said to be the worse economic downturn in the country s history. During the great depression, as banks failed and threatened to shut down the financial system altogether, President Franklin Roosevelt moved quickly and effectively to address the most dangerous financial crisis of the Great depression. The massive stock market collapse that began in October 1929 erased massive amounts of wealth and because many banks had invested heavily in the markets, and had lent recklessly to speculative investors, the banks found themselves without sufficient capital and in many cases without reserves. He created the New Deal which responded to an unemployment rate that had reached 25 percent, and in some cities as much as 75 percent. He signed the Emergency Banking Act, which allowed inspectors to evaluate troubled banks and decide whether or not they could reopen. The Glass Steagall Act created a barrier between commercial and investment banking and established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which guaranteed that citizens would not lose their bank deposits even if a bank failed. • 4. Gilgamesh As An Existential Hero Incredibly, one of the first recorded written works has much in common with one of the most modern philosophical movements. Though the Epic of Gilgamesh was written from oral narration centuries before the philosophy of existentialism was developed, the epic encompasses many of the main ideas of Sartrean existentialism. Jean Paul Sartre developed existentialism as a characterization of the human condition, and the movement that followed his ideas formed distinct literary tropes. Among these is the existential hero, and in this case, the failed existential hero. Initially, Gilgamesh shows development, becoming more important on a universal scale by becoming essential . However, Gilgamesh, when faced with the fact of his own mortality, fails to accept it and is crippled by his own existential dread. Though Gilgamesh elevates himself to a human living with essence, in the existential view, he is unable to overcome the questions of mortality that plague him in the aftermath of tragedy. Existentialism was a philosophic and literary movement that peaked in popularity in the mid 1900 s. First expounded by Sartre, the movement was initially a description of humanity, and attempted to define what it meant to be human. In defining this, existentialism addressed questions about human mortality, and the significance of life. One of the main principles in Sartrean existentialism is the concept that existence precedes essence (Existentialism, Stanford Encyclopedia of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Iroquois Constitution Purposes And Principles Jomar PiersonPierson 1 Mr. Brown, English 2 Period 4 11/15/15 Essay English 2 The Iroquois Constitution purposes and principles reflect with the sociological function and rules of my household which will influence me when I become a parent. The Iroquois constitution is seen as a way to promote peace within the five nations. They demonstrated principles and purpose through always speaking the truth to a fellow nation, to not be easily hurt by criticism or angered, through always praising their Gods for the things they have, and to include anyone who agrees to the constitution, which connects to the sociological function. The rules of my household are similar in that we are to always be truthful, to always show appreciation for what we have, and to never let others affect one s values. This will inspire me for when I become a parent. We will see how the purposes and principles of the Iroquois connect with the sociological function. Sociological function is represented through the story as they talk about the principles and purpose in which each nation in the constitution must follow . In the story they talk about the spreading of their nation and how anyone who wishes to join their constitution will be accepted with open arms. We see this with the discussion of the Great White Roots, Roots have spread out from the Tree of the Great Peace, one to the north, one to the east, one to the south and one to the west. Establishing health and vitality is a year around proposition, and a good fall sets up the lawn for a good spring. The main goal in fall lawn prep is helping grass establish good stores of energy in the root system to boost the general health of the lawn and to prepare for strong spring growth. • 9. My Fried Baked Chicken It was a day like any other. My husband was at work; and I was standing stagnantly in my kitchen, gazing dreadfully at uncooked chicken wings and unbleached flour. My ideal meal arrangement included fried chicken wings accompanied with Kraft s famous macaroni with cheese. Comparable to any story the dilemma posed itself, when I noticed that there was no vegetable oil to fry with. Moreover, I was still fixated on fried chicken. I customarily am the description of the term strong headed , and having faith, I commenced a search for a new method of creating a chicken masterpiece. Consequently, I began to ponder for the first time in my life, why vegetable oil (or any oil) was essential to preparing fried chicken, and if I really needed it or not. I had been so accustomed to the clichГ© preparation of fried chicken. I knew that this idea was going to cause me to gain a new perspective, even think out side the chicken box to achieve the same results as fried chicken from baking it instead. In my opinion, cookingoil is only a prerequisite concerning any fried food method for two grand reasons: to prevent the food from sticking to a pan or pot, and lastly so that the food will not burn from sticking to the pot or pan. Thus I charged myself with the intent to redefine fried chicken. I questioned, did it need to be fried in oil to be considered fried? What did the term fry even mean? After conscientiously researching why oil is needed to fry foods I accumulated a list of pros and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Message Complexity Paper Messages How does one determine the meaning of the world around them? It is not all that simple. Messages are delivered via symbols amongst other factors such as speech, written documents, etc. They help an individual assign meaning to the society around them. With that, a message can mean multiple things depending on the listeners and how it is conveyed. In my case, as a Communication major, I have learned about messages via speechgiving, readings from Communication textbooks, and in class notes. My public speaking course (Speech 105), is probably the class, within my major, that taught me the most about delivering messages. For instance, in the class, the first speech assigned was an impromptu speech. The other students and I had to select... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The layering of messages is a concept that was talked about in this Sophomore Seminar class (Communication 295). Much like an onion, messages can have a multitude of layers. • 11. Theme Of Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close We always hear about communication and language as a theme but we do not think about how the lack of communication can affect characterization and connections. In the novel, Extremely Loud Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer displays just that. He also shows how communication is important in everyday life. In the novel, many relationships are made and damaged due to how people communicate and how they decide to deal with their obstacles. All the major characters, along with few minor characters, have to face troubles that test their relationship with not only the other characters in the story but within themselves. The first hint towards the theme occurs when Oskar goes to the art store and talks to the manager. She tells him very few details about the man who came in and wrote Thomas Schell on all the pieces of paper. Had she been able to reveal more about physical description, he would not think it was his dad, although he would still wonder why someone wrote his father s name. Thomas Schell Sr. finds everyday conversations difficult and tedious so it is no surprise that the manager did not have any socialization with him. By Thomas Sr. being non verbal, it is showing his long lasting emotional pain I have not always been silent, I used to talk and talk and talk and talk, I could not keep my mouth shut, the silence overtook me like a cancer . When he does express what he needs to say towards Grandma, Foer s audience can tell Thomas is not as emotionally open ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Double Use Of Performative Essay This paper will compare the use of the performative two poems: The Lake Isle of Innisfree by W. B. Yeats and Digging by Seamus Heaney. Both these poems will be analyzed individually and in comparison with one another on several themes, being performativity and desire. The main subject is how desire is expressed through the performative in both poems. First, a brief explanation of the performative as defined by Bennett and Royle. A performative is a statement which constitutes an action, thus it does not only describes an action but also preforms the action. An utterance as I now pronounce you husband and wife , spoken in the right conditions, is not only a statement, it also connects two people in marriage. Hence, literary texts can be considered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even (or especially) with its title, a literary text has begun to promise. (Bennett Royle 2016. 313). This quote of Bennett Royle can be applied to the title of Heaney s poem. The poem starts off with a performative, namely its title, and hereby promises that the poem will dig. And digging is exactly what the poem is doing the whole time. The performative act of the poem is that the speaker is digging throughout it, but rather than digging with a spade, he is using his pen to do it. The poem expresses the speaker s desire to keep digging, like his father and grandfather did, but he wants to do it in a different way. That he is not going to dig with a spade, becomes apparent in the last two lines of the poem The squat pen rests. I ll dig with it. (Heaney 1966, 2953) . Furthermore, the last line is actually a performative: he is not merely stating it, but he will actually do it. On the second line, Heaney refers to his pen as a gun: The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. (Heaney 1966, 2953). It demonstrates that he does not see his pen as just a pen , but as his instrument, his weapon. By choosing his pen, Heaney is not digging in the sense of unearthing or burying. The act of digging also means the act of remembering, this will be further explained later in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Thesis Research Paper Rough Draft Television shows have often been a popular source of entertainment with its dynamic characters, exciting plot twists, and unexpected cliffhangers. Viewers are now able to enjoy a dramatically increasing variety of television shows with diverse genres. One show, in particular, has introduced several new and original ideas to both television shows and movies after its premiere: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Joss Whedon s adaptation of Buffy the VampireSlayer has influenced science fiction television shows and movies by inspiring a long arc plot style in current television shows, introducing LGBTQ characters to television, becoming an inspiration which helped increase the amount of female heroine lead characters (in both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Buffy the Vampire Slayer s debut in 1997 reinforces the concept that ...since the late 1990s/early 2000s, the sympathetic vampire...has become distinctly more common in popular fiction and film than the monstrous stereotype as a vicious killer (qtd. in Parke and Wilson 179). Throughout the Buffy series, one of Buffy s main love interests has been Angel, an outcast vampire who has empathy for humans (e.g., he does not harm humans unless provoked, he protects Buffy and her friends from other vampires). As opposed to the other vampires in Buffy, Angel has a soul and experiences guilt for his past crimes. Writer Lorna Jowett (of Buffy, Dark Romance and Female Horror Fans) introduces the idea that Buffy the Vampire Slayer has impacted science fiction (paranormal, in particular) by a theme of dark romance : ...its male protagonists are powerful and dangerous, often presented as stereotypical bad boys, and the fact that they are vampires or werewolves positions them naturally , both monstrosity and masculinity (qtd in Stuller 92). A notable bad boy in Buffy is the vampire, Spike: he is a soulless and sadistic who eventually rebels against the Anointed One (a supernatural being who is prophesized to lead vampires into power). Although Spike is portrayed as a merciless killer, he is devoted to his first lover (Drusilla) although his commitment to her was not reciprocal and reveals a softer side of himself to Buffy when he helps her cope with her death and resurrection. Although Buffy and Spike develop a romantic relationship, he accepts that she will never be able to fully return his feelings. Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries is strongly influence and essentially mirrors Spike s bad boy characteristics: similar to Spike, he is a selfish rebel whose actions are solely meant to benefit himself. On the other hand, the generic white grape juice was fermented in steel holding tanks rather than the barrels. The steel tanks produced 2,000 cases of wine per tank. From start to finish, the process of making wine took about eleven months. A Votre SantГ© bottled three types of wines. Chardonnay Estate was their finest wine which sold a price of $22 per bottle. The fine wine contained Chardonnay grapes only. AVS sold about 24,000 bottles of Chardonnay Estate annually. The second and a little less prestigious wine was their regular Chardonnay. This wine contained what was left over from the Chardonnay Estate blended with the fermented generic grape wine. AVS sold their regular Chardonnay at $16 a bottle. The most basic wine, Blanc de Blanc, was made from all the remaining generic white grapes. Blanc de Blanc sold for an average price of $11 per bottle. ( removed HTML ) Compared to just fifteen years ago the applications and horizons of genetic science have expanded enormously, far beyond simply describing how DNA contributes to the formation of life here on earth. The most important practical advances have built on the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003, started in 1990. At the associated research cost of over $3 billion US dollars (c.$2.7 billion actual), a combined research initiative succeeded in fully sequencing the genomic makeup of one human. The complete implications and structure of our individual, unique genetic codes are still not fully understood. However, genetic sequencing and research in the biological sciences have opened up the potential to diagnose and treat genetic illnesses and key health vulnerabilities through sequencing analysis at all stages of life. Doctors are better placed to identify the root genetic causes of disorders and illnesses, as advances in associating certain bits of genetic code to certain outcomes have expanded the number of known genetic links to maladies from 60 in 1990 to over 5000 (as of 2013). Future analysis of so called junk DNA with no obvious associations to gene expression will form a large part of raising that number even further. Individual genomic analysis allows for better targeted medication and the identification of tumor causing DNA code. Pre natal genetic screening for genetic disorders and disabilities in a fetus can also be performed via blood testing, reducing the need for other, invasive forms of medical testing. The newly developed gene editing tool, CRISPR, also offers the possibility of eliminating or changing defective genomic sections easily. The Theory Of Scientific Revolutions In my essay I plan to argue that Thomas Kuhn was incorrect when he presented his theory that no paradigm is better than any other paradigm and how he believed that people who occupy different paradigms are in different universes, in his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. I believe that there is no valid deductive or inductive support for incommensurability, there are examples against it throughout the history of sciencethat do not exhibit the discontinuity and replacement of paradigms, as Kuhn s incommensurability thesis predicts, but rather continuity and supplementation. If this is correct, then there are no compelling epistemic reasons to believe that Kuhn s incommensurability thesis is true or probable. The argument that the point of the same kind terms changes or ceases from one theoretical context to another, it does not fundamentally mean that these two abstract frameworks are taxonomically or methodologically incommensurable. Kuhn s theory takes a relativist stance and uses it to make all theories and paradigms equal with none being better than the other. This poses a major problem because the hope of scientific research is best said as For a realist conception of scientific progress also wishes to assert that, by and large, later science improves on earlier science, in particular by approaching closer to the truth. This is shown through Atta Turk completely removing Islam out of the newly formed Turkish society, the Baath Party s secular ideology while still committing massacre, and Hezbollah using a radicalized form of religionto gain political strength. The beginning of the modern age of Islam can be marked with Napoleon s conquest of Egypt and the subsequent conquest by Britain. This defeat indicated to the leaders of the Islamic world that not only were they defeated by a Western power, but also by an inferior Western power. Thus, leaders of the Islamic world, such as Muhammad Ali and al Afghani said that to create a successful society, we must emulate the West to become strong. This ideology held largely throughout the Islamic world until the creation of Israel. When Israel fought and destroyed Arab nations in the Six Days War, secular governments were no longer as widely accepted, leading to the creation of Islamic states and the further progression of Islamic Fundamentalism. Islamic Fundamentalism uses radicalized Islam, which can usually be traced directly back to Wahhabism, to try and gain power and political influence over the region through terror. This clearly corrupted thought clashes with the secular, although also in many cases corrupted, powers of the world. These opposing viewpoints show that there is no ... Vocal cords normally move back and forth to make sounds when air passes through the voice box (larynx). If you have a hyperfunctional voice disorder, the area of the brain that controls vocal cord movement does not send the right signals. This causes the vocal cords to spasm. Hyperfunctional voice disorders might also be referred to as muscle tension dysphonia. Sometimes the spasms force the vocal cords open when they should be closed. This makes you lose your voice. During the Anglo Saxon era, there were values which remain the same till this day. Loyalty and courage play a big roll in today s values, as much as it did during the Anglo Saxon time. One of the Anglo Saxon values still holding true today will have to be loyalty. One might wonder, what exactly is loyalty? Loyalty is being faithful to something or someone, or in shorter words, always sticking to a person or thing no matter what the situation is. Beowulfshows his loyalty when he states he will not shift a foot (2524) because he cannot break his word. Wiglaf understands this loyalty to one s reputation and how it is linked to being a warrior. In African American studies, the scholarship of gender and sexuality is largely based in the intellectual tradition that grew out of the civil rights movements of the 1960s and 1970s. With a discourse that historically examines the behaviors, conditions, and attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on class oppression, sex, and genderidentity as social constructs found to be inextricably bound together, the inclusion of gender and sexuality in African American studies reaches back to include the work of such diverse social and cultural activists as Anna Julia Cooper, Ida B. Wells, and Sojourner Truth. Working to situate the rights of all black people in a place of woman inclusive equality, the scholarship moves forward through the work of activist intellectuals that include Elise Johnson McDougald, and Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, who urged political action for black women as a form of physical and political protection. Moving forward, the fight for academic inclusion of African American studies broadened the examination of race, gender, and sexuality beyond the feminismthat writer Alice Walker suggests emphasizes women s natural contribution to society (Walker, 2005). He wanted to move the U.S away from its traditional policy of isolationism and towards the role of a global power. He wanted the U.S to act as the world police, keeping conflicts to a minimum. • 40. Snow Covers Kotlyak et al. (1997) describe the snow cover regime all over the world based on regular ground observation data from the 1960s to the 1980s. Spatial distribution of the number of snow covered days (N_sn, similar as SCD in this study) is found to be related with altitude, exposition of macro slope relative to trajectories of major moisture flow, and latitude. The latitudinal gradient for N_sn is 5 to 9.5 days / degree with a mean of 8 days / degree for the Northern Hemisphere, comparable with the value (~ 9 days / degree for areas below 3000 m) reported for CA in this study. Leeward slopes tend to have lower N_sn compared with windward slopes, with one example showing that the mean N_sn in western part of Pamir is 250 300 days on 3500 m,... Summary statistics for snow cover extent and timing characteristics, including SCD, SCD_ES and SCD_LS (same as SCD, SCOD and SCMD in this study) were calculated at each 100 m elevation zone within the CARs, and within different catchment groups. Trends of the summary statistics were analyzed using Mann Kendal test. The results show that SCMD shifted earlier significantly in upstream catchments of Amu Dar ya and Syr Dar ya, as well as in the elevation range between 2500 and 3200 m, which is in agreement with our previous work and the results of this study in general. It is reported that SCOD moved earlier significantly all over CARs, and no significant trend of SCD change can be detected in any catchment group or elevation zone, which differs from our findings. In this study, within the boundary of CARs, significantly decreased SCD was observed in mountainous areas of Tien Shan and Pamir, while only patches in WP and WT experienced SCOD shifted earlier. The disagreement might come from the different temporal overage of the two studies, or more probably the different calculation unit used when conducting trend test. As shown in our results, the trend of change for snow cover statistics exhibits large spatial variability. Calculating the trends of change at catchment groups and 100 m elevation zones within the political boundaries might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although these women were making a point to their best ability, the government ensured it would not escalate. Before pursuing the Cat and Mouse Act, prison officials approached the problem by force feeding those on strike with tubes and gags to empty contents into their stomachs. Sylvia Pankhurst described her experience being force fed as an imprisoned suffragette as always sore and bleeding, with bits of loose, jagged flesh (Purvis, par. 9), yet it was dismissed as safe and simply unpleasant by the government. Although the government tried all it could to diminish the movement, the suffragettes put their message out there and the movement did not slow down even through World War I. Dred Scott was a slave who sued for his freedom after living in Illinois and Wisconsin Territory where slavery was banned. Mr. Scott argued that he should be free since he had lived on free soil. • 45. Resistance To Affirmative Action Resistance to affirmative action has existed from the time it was introduced (Allen, 2011; Kaufmann, 2007), and in many instances, the U.S. Supreme Court has played a crucial role in determining the extent to which it can achieve its original goals (Zamani Brown, 2003). One of the earliest cases to challenge the use of affirmative actionwas DeFunis v. Odegaard (1973), of which the court found the University of Washington Law School s use of race in admissions to be unconstitutional (Platt, 2007; Zamani Brown, 2003). The law school was accused of having separate admissions procedures for students of color by giving less weight to their predicted first year averages. As such, DeFunis argued that underqualified students of color had been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kirwan (1994), a federal court ruled on the constitutionality of race based merit scholarships. In this case, the merit based Benjamin Banneker Scholarship, earmarked for African American students, sought to attract academically talented African American students to the University of Maryland at College Park. The court ruled it was not permissible to maintain separate financial merit awards according to race (Shapiro, 1995), illustrating the increasing difficulties postsecondary institutions faced to designate a fellowship or scholarship specifically for racial/ethnic minorities (Platt, 2007). In fact, efforts to prohibit affirmative action in the United States really ramped up in the mid 1990 s. For instance, in 1996 the Supreme Court upheld California s Proposition 209, an amendment to the state constitution that banned both discrimination and affirmative action programs that give preferences to groups or individuals based on their race, gender, color, ethnicity, or national origin. To that end, race could not be used as a consideration (e.g., admissions and hiring decisions) in public education (Alvarez Bedolla, 2004). In addition, in Hopwood v. Texas (1996), the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision ending affirmative action in both private and public college admissions in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. More litigation continued in 1997 (Gratz v. Bollinger and Grutter v. Bollinger) that challenged the use of affirmative action in undergraduate and law school admissions, and in 1998, Washington voters passed Initiative 200, a nearly identical policy to Prop. 209. In 1999, Florida Governor Jeb Bush pre issued an executive order ending consideration of race and ethnicity in public college and university admissions, public employment, and government contracting. Such attacks on affirmative action policies are prompting colleges and universities to abandon race sensitive programs, such as scholarships, academic enrichment programs, ... • 46. B2C and B2B Marketing Comparison B2C and B2B Marketing Comparison Marketing ultimately depends on who you are delivering your message to. With Business to Business (B2B), an organization has to know the businesses needs, its current situation, competitors, trends, technology and costs. Business to Commerce (B2C) is also about knowing who you re selling to. You have to know their wants and needs, your competition, distribution, supply chains and costs. Often, B2B sites are more informational and technical. There is less branding, or at least a different kind. It is not so much an emotional connection as an intellectual connection. B2C sites are more entertainment. They often change with promotions and products, and are made simpler for ease of navigation for the common... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the buyer is satisfied then a proposal or contract would be conjured up. Therefore, it is not a single piece of advertisement that wins a pricey contract. It takes a series of letters, brochures, presentations, ads, and mailers combined with the efforts of sales associates to find a steady paying customer that will contribute to organizational longevity. When considering to buy personal hygiene items or groceries, now one consults with a team on the purchase. In almost all B2C selling situations, the purchase decision is made by an individual. There are many influences involved with the decision such as the purchasing agent and company president, to technical professionals and customers. It gives valuable advice about how to act upon human intuition, how to recognize threats, and defines what real fear is and it s purpose. I found the book to be extremely interesting. This book provided me with a sense of understanding on violence and fear and I feel much better prepared when it comes to recognizing dangerous situations. My favorite part of the book was the warning signs to know when a stranger is a potential threat. This was fascinating to me because I ve been told since I was just a little boy to beware of strangers. But with all these warnings about strangers I had never been told how to recognize when a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a person gets that gut feeling that something just isn t right, it should never be ignored. Our natural human intuition is giving us that gut feeling for a reason. And that sensation of danger can save lives. One example of how human intuition works was given in the book; a man walked into a convenience store, had a gut feeling he needed to get out of there, left, and found out later that day the convenience store had been robbed and the cashier had been shot and killed. This seemingly random feeling of danger that spared this mans life was not random at all. His intuition let him know to have fear because the cashier looked as if he was fearful when the man walked into the store and also there was a second nervous looking customer wearing a long concealing jacket while it was hot outside. His intuition let him know that there was a potentially dangerous situation even if he wasn t looking for the signs that were there. This applies to my life because everybody can experience these gut feelings from human intuition; I know now to act upon them and to never ignore them because they have the capability to save your life. One thing I learned about fear is that it can basically act for us. With fear humans can make critical decisions that they wouldn t dare make without fear edging them on. A story that particularly shocked me was the story of a young woman named Kelly. She followed her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Law Makers can be anyone, or anything, because power has anarchic in nature and will only go to the leading initiator, which was the British monarchy before the Romantic era. What changed was the radical notion of common people and their importance to society during industrialization. Romanticism revolutionized the way common people viewed the world (and themselves) through nature, the universe and everyday life. It connected the world and led to the greatest notion of the modern day the idea that the people are both the Law Makers and Law Followers, thus equalizing power and creating a spirit of democracythat lasts until today. The idea of life within nature distinguishes the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the sad truth of the major population today you eat, you work, you die. The old man narrating these words is explaining the sad story of a widowed mother, a title not uncommon today. This poem is just the sad story of a woman that lost her husband to war and her children because, ultimately, there just wasn t enough money to sustain them all. Again, this is an example of Romantic poetry connecting the common people through ethic and sympathy. What radicalized the world as they knew it during Romanticism and everyday since was the use of blank verse for topics as mundane and commonplace as nature and a widow. These seemingly normal topics are being discussed through blank verse, or iambic pentameter. The most elated form of writing, and speech, of that day was used for the commoners, thus balancing everyone in society. There was no longer a set higher class or lower class speech dialect everyone was the same. This poetry demolished the upper class and elevated the common folks dignity by allowing them to speak and read in their stories through the words of the powerful. This dramatic reimagining of the ordinary is what connected society during the Romantic era and is the fundamental basis of the spirit of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
