Technology Integration Plan  Grade 3 , The Solar System By, Kathleen Morley
Phase I: Relative Advantage 	I would like my students to  be able to identify and learn the order of the major bodies of the solar system, as well as recognize characteristics and the overall shaping of our Solar System. 	The internet provides various interactive websites for students to use to their advantage. Through technology this unit flourishes with engaging information and hands on activities. Technology such as the internet, SmartBoard applications, and the AVerMedia CP300 will be used.
Phase II: Objectives and Assessment Objective:  To provide experience on a third grade level the basics and characteristics of the solar system and its influence on our lives today.  Students will:  1. Use technology and web based sources to characterize the members of the solar system. 2. Students will engage in a more detailed look at the rotations and revolutions of the Earth and Moon.  	3.  Students will participate in a 3D Solar System simulator comparing the size, shape, and periods of rotation. 	4. Students will be able to create their own solar system model. Student Assessment: 	Students will be assessed through formal and informal discussion, knowledge of the topic  through games, quizzes, and projects. They will be assessed independently through their solar system creations.
Phase III: Integration Strategies Instructional Method:Constructivist Lesson Development:  This lesson includes various activities to foster student growth and learning. This unit is a study of the solar system structure, the characteristics of the members of that system, and a detailed look at the rotations and revolutions of the Earth and Moon. This unit focuses on the Earth and its surroundings. The Earth is part of a changing system. In order to preserve life on Earth, there is a need to develop understanding of the Earth's characteristics and how people interact with their environment. The content of this unit involves the solar system, planets, moons, asteroids, meteors, meteorites, comets, day and night, lunar cycles and the seasons.
Activities Students will: 1.  View interactive Solar System websites 	2.  Participate in an online Web Quest 3.  Create their own Solar System 4.  View a Solar System Video
Introduction Activity Students will first be introduced to the solar system by watching a brief video from United Streaming.  This video will be viewable through SOLAR SYSTEM VIDEO After students have watched the Solar System Overview they will then take part in a 3d Solar System Simulation where students will be introduced to the size, comparisons. and overall structure of the solar system and the planets within. This can be viewed on the link of  3d Solar System Simulation .
Activity #1: WebQuest The following Web Quest offers students an engaging activity where they each act as an astraunot in space. Students will be split into groups  aka:โ€œcrewsโ€ where they will have to gather information about their destination.  A list of data and necessary information is provided on the WebQuest.

Phase IV: Instructional Environment Students will have access to technology such as the computer and smartboard.  Students will also have pencils, clipboard, markers, and postcard materials to complete their webquest. In order to view the UnitedStreaming Video the teacher will have a username and password to login.  Students will be able to use Microsoft Software, Internet, and Adobe Acrobat Reader and Shockwave Player.
Phase V: Evaluate Integration Strategies The WebQuest used in this activity is interesting and creative. Students will be able to act upon their knowledge, creativity, and take ownership of their work. In order to evaluate the teacher will make sure of the sites being used, user registration, and the overall understanding of the concepts being used for web based learning.

  • 3. Phase I: Relative Advantage I would like my students to be able to identify and learn the order of the major bodies of the solar system, as well as recognize characteristics and the overall shaping of our Solar System. The internet provides various interactive websites for students to use to their advantage. Through technology this unit flourishes with engaging information and hands on activities. Technology such as the internet, SmartBoard applications, and the AVerMedia CP300 will be used.
  • 4. Phase II: Objectives and Assessment Objective: To provide experience on a third grade level the basics and characteristics of the solar system and its influence on our lives today. Students will: 1. Use technology and web based sources to characterize the members of the solar system. 2. Students will engage in a more detailed look at the rotations and revolutions of the Earth and Moon. 3. Students will participate in a 3D Solar System simulator comparing the size, shape, and periods of rotation. 4. Students will be able to create their own solar system model. Student Assessment: Students will be assessed through formal and informal discussion, knowledge of the topic through games, quizzes, and projects. They will be assessed independently through their solar system creations.
  • 5. Phase III: Integration Strategies Instructional Method:Constructivist Lesson Development: This lesson includes various activities to foster student growth and learning. This unit is a study of the solar system structure, the characteristics of the members of that system, and a detailed look at the rotations and revolutions of the Earth and Moon. This unit focuses on the Earth and its surroundings. The Earth is part of a changing system. In order to preserve life on Earth, there is a need to develop understanding of the Earth's characteristics and how people interact with their environment. The content of this unit involves the solar system, planets, moons, asteroids, meteors, meteorites, comets, day and night, lunar cycles and the seasons.
  • 6. Activities Students will: 1. View interactive Solar System websites 2. Participate in an online Web Quest 3. Create their own Solar System 4. View a Solar System Video
  • 7. Introduction Activity Students will first be introduced to the solar system by watching a brief video from United Streaming. This video will be viewable through SOLAR SYSTEM VIDEO After students have watched the Solar System Overview they will then take part in a 3d Solar System Simulation where students will be introduced to the size, comparisons. and overall structure of the solar system and the planets within. This can be viewed on the link of 3d Solar System Simulation .
  • 8. Activity #1: WebQuest The following Web Quest offers students an engaging activity where they each act as an astraunot in space. Students will be split into groups aka:โ€œcrewsโ€ where they will have to gather information about their destination. A list of data and necessary information is provided on the WebQuest.

  • 10. Phase IV: Instructional Environment Students will have access to technology such as the computer and smartboard. Students will also have pencils, clipboard, markers, and postcard materials to complete their webquest. In order to view the UnitedStreaming Video the teacher will have a username and password to login. Students will be able to use Microsoft Software, Internet, and Adobe Acrobat Reader and Shockwave Player.
  • 11. Phase V: Evaluate Integration Strategies The WebQuest used in this activity is interesting and creative. Students will be able to act upon their knowledge, creativity, and take ownership of their work. In order to evaluate the teacher will make sure of the sites being used, user registration, and the overall understanding of the concepts being used for web based learning.
