many countries are going to harvest the renewable energies from the biosphere. Renewable energy sources are the alternate to the fossil fuels.. so we must go towards the renewable energy sources.
The paper mentions the major issues related to the residential solar energy and the commercial solar energy. Covering the types and application of both residential and commercial, cost related issues, and the future of the industry.
Pilot Solar Thermal Power Plant Station in Southwest LouisianaIJAPEJOURNAL
Solar thermal plants are basically power plants that generate electricity from high-temperature heat. The difference between them and conventional power plants is that instead of deriving energy from gas, coal or oil, the sun provides the energy that drives the turbines. In this paper we will give a brief demonstration of solar thermal power and different system designs of solar thermal power plants. Then we will see the feasibility of implementing solar power plants in Louisiana which currently depends mostly on its conventional power plants which use traditional fuels such as gas, oil, and coal. This study was a part of a proposal that was funded by the US the Department of Energy to construct solar thermal plant near Lafayette, Louisiana. The power plant is currently under the construction and it will be completed by Summer of 2013

THE CHALLENGE FOR THE 21. CENTURY Day by day we hear more disturbing news about the “Climate Change” that is happening all over the world. More and more people are getting seriously impacted by increasingly strong and more frequent hurricanes. We hear about unprecedented droughts in one area while there is severe flooding in another. People are forced to leave entire regions due to desertification of the land.

Introduction
Energy is essential for life to exist in any environment. As humans, we consume huge quantities of energy
every day. This, however, comes with many consequences. Although energy is abundant everywhere, useful
energy is much more difficult to produce and less efficient for our daily activities. Over 90% of produced ener-
gy comes from non-renewable resources. These include oil, natural gas, coal, and uranium. Not only are our
sources of fossil fuels and other nonrenewable energy sources depleting, but many of these sources produce
toxins that are harmful to our bodies and the environment. Fossil fuel depletion, deforestation, pollution, and
global warming are just a few negative effects that come from the combustion of many nonrenewable energy
sources.
Non-renewable Sources
Oil is derived from the remains of plants and animals that lived in aqueous
environments millions of years ago. Over very long periods of time, the
heat from the Earth’s core and the pressure from the sand, silt, and rock
that deposited on top of it turns the remains into crude oil. Scientists and
engineers explore areas to find rocks that indicate the presence of oil un-
derneath, and drill through them to tap into the reservoir holding the yel-
lowish-black substance. After the oil is drilled, it is sent to a refinery to be
separated into usable petroleum products—most of which are used to pro-
duce energy. These include: heating oil, jet fuel, heavy fuel oil, liquefied
petroleum gases, and gasoline.

Coal is another nonrenewable energy source that is derived from sedimentary rock comprised mainly of car-
bon and hydrocarbons. It takes millions of years to create and forms from dead plants that became trapped
under dirt and water. There are four main types of coal: anthracite, bituminous, subbituminous, and lignite.
Coal is classified into these groups based on the amount of carbon it contains. When coal is buried less than
200 feet underground, surface mining technologies can be used to extract it. However, it if is deeper than 200
feet, underground mining is performed to reach and extract the coal. More than 90% of the coal mined in the
US is used for generating electricity. Even though coal is an inexpensive fuel source, it is important to re-

Very, VERY dry material, I'm afraid. We were asked to teach a chapter of the text book. I did this presentation, and found it difficult even using PowerPoint to keep in interesting and streamlined enough to keep people awake. But the pictures are pretty, and I made the design template myself using modified clipart. :o)

1. Solar power
Solar energy pros
1. An Eco-friendly energy source (RES).
Renewable sources are non-fossil power resources that are renewed by mother nature; Atmosphere
pleasant power sources have many benefits and benefits over various other old-fashioned power
sources as they are thought about to be lasting and ecologically friendly.
2. Environmentally sustainable.
Using eco lasting power resources means thinking about as well as dealing with the environmental
trouble we trouble the world; hence lowering CARBON DIOXIDE as well as other hazardous gasses
discharges right into the setting and combating international warming and greenhouse effects. In
addition, by utilizing alternate RES we contribute against exhaustion of the natural down payments.
3. Plentiful and also complimentary.
Solar power is sustainable, abundant and free! Being regularly renewed by mommy earth it is a
power source that could not be worn down. Solar power potential is remarkably huge! "... Thinking
ONE HUNDRED % absorption of solar radiation, it would simply need 88 mins of solar radiation to
cover for humanity's complete power usage for a year! "- ref. solar power possibility.
4. Accessible power resource.
Apart from being cost-free as well as bountiful by nature, solar power is additionally offered
worldwide. Although the areas area closest to the equator have the greatest solar glow,
nevertheless, various other zones being additional north and southern from the equator can also
make use of solar energy; a fine example of this is Germany which has taken care of to explore
effectively its solar power even at an altitude of 51 deg. Subsequently, Solar power is offered
anywhere the sun radiates; its quality, however, differs baseding on place as well as climatic
disorders.
5. Readily available when required most.
Solar power, as a power resource, usually has the benefit of being offered when it is required most;
such as, in warm summer season days where electrical energy need reaches its peak for room air
conditioning, so is solar energy supply of the summertime sunlight.
6. To Eco-friendly power.
The significant potential of solar power may hold the secret to gradually disengaging fossil energies
from power generation; hence pass through a lot more into environment-friendly power and also
lasting property development.
7. Reliability of energy resource.
2. Generally, renewable resource sources are basically unpredictable, as a result unreliable, due to the
fact that of climatic actions (weather condition is unforeseeable-- view solar power disadvantages);
however, solar power shows reasonably high dependability based on location certain historical
information as well as innovation setup made use of (e.g. with energy storage space). Using Solar
power is certainly less dependable than making use of any nonrenewable fuel source (oil or gas) yet
a lot more reliable than wind power.
8. Extensively utilized.
Solar Energy is utilized in a large area of applications by making use of different innovations.
Looking for ways to fight our environmental challenges, the substantial possibility of solar power has
been a main driver for the global economy, technical advancement and also at some point expect a
sustainable future. That is why solar power is utilized in a large range of applications that is
continually increasing; these include the construction industry on structures (photovoltaic panels for
residence, solar water heating systems, easy solar), for generation of power, combination with
various other innovations such as solar lights, powering electric tools and equipment (power boat,
solar plane, solar vehicles etc.) as well as utilizing it in our daily lives for cooking-- solar food
preparation.
Solar power Cons.
1. Just in daytime.
As it is quickly recognized, solar power is just readily available during the day and as long as the
sunlight is shining.
2. Uncertain weather condition.
When it comes to natural solar power sources, their supply is as foreseeable as the climate on the
area of the website. Regrettably weather variations are recurring as well as extremely
unforeseeable, influencing considerably the direct usage of all eco-friendly sources.
3. Pricey innovation.
Although solar energy is openly available by nature, to compile it as well as us it we require costly
technology (solar power systems). Generally, utilizing solar power in area of old-fashioned power
sources will cost more cash; it is hence economically unrealistic. To make up for this 'economic
3. challenge, solar power has been a main target of monetary motivations promoting environmental
options.
