island?
A landmass surrounded by all four sides is known as
island.

3. Facts about islands in India
• There are a total of 1,208 islands in India.
• The Andrott Island is the largest island with an area of 4.90 sq km, length of 4.66 km and a
maximum width of 1.43 km.
• Among these 9 union territories :- Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar island are
the two island groups of India.
• Lakshadweep island is the smallest island in India.

4. Andaman and
Nicobar Islands
• The Andaman Islands are an
Indian archipelago in the Bay of
Bengal.These roughly 300 islands
are known for their palm-lined,
white-sand beaches, mangroves
and tropical rainforests. Coral reefs
supporting marine life such as
sharks and rays make for popular
diving and snorkeling sites.
Indigenous Andaman Islanders
inhabit the more remote islands,
many of which are off limits to
visitors.

Nicobar islands
• The only active volcano in India is located in
Andaman and Nicobar islands which is
named as barren islands.
