Presentation by Dr. Teppo Eskelinen, philospher and freelance journalist, discussing the concept of "development" and the relationship oj journalism to development
Social development encompasses the advancement and betterment of human well-being within a society. It entails a wide range of improvements that contribute to the overall quality of life, addressing not only economic factors but also social, cultural, and environmental dimensions. Social development emphasizes the empowerment of individuals and communities, ensuring their active participation in decision-making processes that affect their lives.
This concept emphasizes the reduction of inequalities, the promotion of social justice, and the creation of an inclusive and supportive environment for all members of society. It involves enhancing access to education, healthcare, housing, and essential services, while also fostering opportunities for skill development and employment. Social development aims to create a cohesive society where people have the chance to lead dignified lives, free from discrimination and exclusion.
At its core, social development recognizes that human progress cannot be measured solely by economic growth. It underscores the importance of addressing social issues, promoting human rights, and establishing an equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Social development strategies often involve collaboration among governments, organizations, and communities to ensure that the benefits of development are accessible to all segments of society.

How do we measure development? The Social Progress Index (SPI) was launched in 2013 as a holistic approach to benchmarking countries’ social performance, independent of economic measures. The SPI has been widely taken up on a global basis in evaluating national performance, and sub-national indices are proliferating at the regional and city level. In this lecture, Professor Porter will describe the insights that the SPI provides about the relationship between economic development and social progress, along with exploring the implications for development thinking and how the World Bank can best deliver on its “shared prosperity” goal.

On April 28, 2016, social innovators from 6 continents gathered in Reykjavik to join Harvard Business School Professor Michael E. Porter to identify solutions to some of the world’s biggest problems.
The conference was a watershed discussion of how countries including Brazil, Costa Rica, Iceland, Nepal, New Zealand and Rwanda and cities and regions such as Medellin, Colombia and the Basque Region of Spain have achieved standout social progress results.
Insight from the Social Progress Index, a powerful new benchmarking tool to connect decision-makers with fresh perspectives on social performance, anchored these conversations.

2016 Social Progress Index Media Brief - Long Versionsocprog
The 2016 Social Progress Index launched June 28. It covers 133 countries with 53 indicators of social and environmental outcomes. Higher GDP per capita alone does not determine real quality of life. The Index ranks Finland the world’s most socially progressive country; Canada in second place tops the G7 nations. Economic growth is not the sole determinant of quality of life. The 2016 Index finds that while social progress—which includes measures of opportunity, healthcare, education and tolerance—does tend to rise as GDP increases, economic wealth on its own does not explain social progress outcomes. When and how does economic growth lead to real improvements in peoples' lives? The Social Progress Index has been designed to answer that question, measuring the performance of countries based on exclusively social and environmental indicators. Michael Green, Executive Director of the Social Progress Imperative, will explain how the Index measures the inclusiveness of 132 countries and how it is being used by governments, businesses and civil society organizations to drive change.
CEO of the Social Progress Imperative Michael Green presented at "Social Progress in Latin America" at the Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC on Feb 16, 2017. The Global AgeWatch Index measures how well 96 countries are supporting their older populations, in terms of health, income, employment and education and the enabling environment.
This year, Norway comes first, replacing Sweden from last year. Apart from Japan, all the top 10 countries are again in Western Europe, North America and Australasia. Afghanistan comes bottom again.
This presentation is to help navigate the architecture, methodology and data behind the Global AgeWatch Index.

Introducing BONKMILLON - The Most Bonkers Meme Coin Yet
Let's be real for a second – the world of meme coins can feel like a bit of a circus at times. Every other day, there's a new token promising to take you "to the moon" or offering some groundbreaking utility that'll change the game forever. But how many of them actually deliver on that hype?
What website can I sell pi coins securely.DOT TECH
Currently there are no website or exchange that allow buying or selling of pi coins..
But you can still easily sell pi coins, by reselling it to exchanges/crypto whales interested in holding thousands of pi coins before the mainnet launch.
Who is a pi merchant?
A pi merchant is someone who buys pi coins from miners and resell to these crypto whales and holders of pi..
This is because pi network is not doing any pre-sale. The only way exchanges can get pi is by buying from miners and pi merchants stands in between the miners and the exchanges.
How can I sell my pi coins?
Selling pi coins is really easy, but first you need to migrate to mainnet wallet before you can do that. I will leave the telegram contact of my personal pi merchant to trade with.
Tele-gram.

Pi has not yet been launched on any exchange because we are currently using the confined Mainnet. The planned launch date for Pi is June 28, 2026.
Reselling to investors who want to hold until the mainnet launch in 2026 is currently the sole way to sell.
Consequently, right now. All you need to do is select the right pi network provider.

An individual who buys coins from miners on the pi network and resells them to investors hoping to hang onto them until the mainnet is launched is known as a pi merchant.

Economic development alone is not sufficient to explain social
progress outcomes
• There is a non-linear relationship between Social Progress Index
scores and GDP per capita.
• Social Progress Index scores display significant deviation from
the GDP per capita regression line.
- In how well economic growth translates into social improvement.
• GDP per capita is an incomplete measure of a country's overall
performance.
• Social Progress is a critical enabler of long-term economic
performance.

DEFINING PEER COUNTRIES
• We define a country’s economic peers as the 15 countries
closest in GDP PPP per capita.
• India’s economic peers include: Uzbekistan, Laos, Nigeria,
Honduras, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Moldova, Republic of
Congo, Bolivia, Philippines, Ghana, Yemen, Mauritania,
Georgia, Guatemala.
• A country’s performance relative to the median performance
of its peers defines strengths and weaknesses.

CREATING A STRATEGY FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
• The Social Progress Index objectively benchmarks a country’s
social performance holistically, breaking down the silos between
social issues.
• It also motivates change: If peer countries perform significantly
better, 'why not us?’
• SPI enables an overall strategic perspective on social reform.
• We are launching a state-level index for India to understand
regional performance and the effects of local policies on progress.
