- 4. OVERPOPULATION • Population of India is 133.92 crores (2017). • India rank second after china in population and is soon to overtake china to become world number one • Watch this video
- 5. POVERTY • An inability to meet basic needs. • In 2012, the Indian government stated 22% of its population is below its official poverty limit. • High population growth rate is one of the major reasons of poverty in India.
- 6. ILLITERACY Indian literacy rate has grown to 74.04% from 20% during independence.
- 7. CASTEISM AND UNTOUCHABILITY • Casteism is an unique feature of Indian society. • There are around 5000 castes in India. • Indian society is the only society where Castes are found in all religions. • Untouchability – Notion of purity and pollution.
- 8. GENDER INEQUALITY. • Gender inequality is a result of the persistent discrimination of one group of people based upon gender. • It is furthermore considered a causal factor of violence against women and third gender people. • Impacts India's sex ratio, women's health over their lifetimes, their educational attainment, and economic conditions. • India ranks 108th in WEF gender gap index 2018 among 149 countries.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN • Violence against women in India refer to physical or sexual violence committed against Indian women, typically by a man. • Forms of Violence against women. - Dowry deaths - Honor killings - Witchcraft-related murders - Rape - Marital rape - Insult to modesty - Human trafficking and forced prostitution - Domestic violence - Forced and child marriage - Acid throwing - Abduction.
