2. It is the fear of public humiliation or
embarrassment.
People with social phobia are afraid to do
things in front of other people.
Example: they may be afraid to sign a
check in front of a cashier.
Most people who have it know they
shouldn’t be afraid but cannot control the
fear they have.
Social phobia can be detected during youth.
If not treated social phobia can last for many
years or a lifetime.
3. People with social phobia tend to:
1. be very self- conscious in front of
others.
2. very anxious about being with other
people.
3. blush, sweat, or tremble around
others.
4. have a hard time making friends and
keeping friends.
5. feel nauseous or sick to their stomach
when with other people.
4. Treatment for social phobia is usually treated
with psychotherapy, medication, or both.
A psychotherapy that is usually used for
social phobia is called cognitive behavior
therapy.
Anti-anxiety medications and antidepressants
are generally used for treatment.
Another type of treatment is beta-blockers.
Each person is different and does better with
whatever treatment but the only way to find
out is seeing a doctor.
5. There is a girl in the movie that is very shy and
doesn’t like to talk to anyone.
She’s very self conscious and afraid of Napoleon when
he comes over to talk to her.
She's advertising her bracelets and runs off when
Napoleon's uncle says some rude stuff to her.
During the movie she’s very selective when it comes
to talking to others.
The look on her face shows she very anxious around
other people.
Napoleon on the other hand seems very comfortable
with himself and doesn’t seem to care what other
think.
The girl sticks out the most because she keeps more
to herself and doesn’t engage in any conversations.
