This document discusses the importance of social media for companies and celebrities. It outlines an in-class activity where students will simulate running different candy companies on social media. The main takeaways are that social media allows for personal relationships with consumers, companies are still experimenting with social media strategies, and consumers have power in determining what goes viral. The discussion will involve students strategizing how different celebrities could increase their social media presence.
This document provides tips for using digital media and social media to influence donations and volunteerism. It discusses six principles of influence from Dr. Robert Cialdini: reciprocity, scarcity, authority, consistency, liking, and consensus. Specific tips include connecting with people on social media, explaining needs and sharing knowledge, recognizing supporters, showing how the organization benefits the community, making donation requests personal, highlighting what is scarce and important, adding donation buttons and wishlists, promoting successes through influencers and testimonials, keeping volunteers and donors engaged after initial interest, creating groups and using hashtags for consistency, bonding with the community before asking for help, being visible in positive community activities, and showing that others are also helping
Building customer satisfaction requires focusing on quality, service, and value. Customer satisfaction measures how well a company meets or exceeds expectations, while customer value is the satisfaction from a purchase relative to the cost. A company provides value by creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging benefits that outweigh price and hassle. Success depends on providing perceived value to targeted customer segments. Customer service before, during, and after purchases is also key. Total quality marketing stresses customer satisfaction as crucial for business success in competitive markets. Retaining customers involves setting expectations, building trust through relationships, and going above and beyond with service and social media.

It's 2017. One in three minutes spent online is devoted to some form of social media activity. But, it's not just about staying in touch with friends and family anymore. Social media has turned into an educational and promotional tool for businesses as well as a community outreach and information distribution instrument for municipalities and universities. Through social media, customers and constituents can share feedback and businesses, municipalities and universities can find out what their audience wants.
The conversation today has moved beyond if you should be on social media for your business or organization to how to be most effective with it. Just knowing the basics of what social media is and which platform to use won't cut it anymore. Not with the 7,452 tweets or the 48,830 Facebook status updates per SECOND inundating social feeds. With the deluge of content shared on social networks every minute of every day, your posts, blogs, shares and comments won't be seen if you aren't doing social right. Don't waste your time using last year's marketing tactics.

Engagement is the buzzword that powers social media - your marketing team loves this word! I know I used to be the social media person in marketing! These platforms revolutionized online communications because of the two way nature. Consumers can talk directly to companies, brands can reach consumers easier. Everyone is reachable.
Networking piece.
It makes you feel good. It makes you check in on a person and wonder “What’s she doing?”
I said this wasn’t about likes but I lied a bit - this is where “likes’ come in, specifically on engagement with your network. Everyone is sharing content. Liking and commenting on what your network says or does is a way of saying “Hey, that’s smart, I like that.” It makes people feel good. But there’s an added benefit. If I like something on LinkedIn that’s smart and forward thinking, the rest of my network will see it too. And that associates my name with forward thinking content and trends. And that’s powerful. Of course, you need to have read the content to begin with. You can also comment on it to. If you agree or disagree, say so! Ask a question. Be visible. You never know who is looking. These are engagement tools.
EXAMPLE ON LINKEDIN of engagement. Old school rolodex meet new school rolodex.
How many of you have gone through yoru LinkedIn list of connections and seen what people are up to? Where are former colleagues working now? What could you learn from them? Maybe you should drop them a note to inquire what they’re up to? It’s a great way to get insider information on an industry that you’re curious about. Or if yo’re launching a new product, you could test out ideas on your frieds in teh industry.
When’s the last time you went through your LinkedIn connections and seen where they are at? Old coworkers, new colleagues, friends… Where are they now and what are they doing? You might be surprised.
Staying connected to people after a conference. Twitter makes meeting people at conferences so much easier.
