projects in Memphis to a drug–addicted mother and an absent father. Michael was eventually taken by family services and was placed in a number of
different foster homes. He ran away from each home placement and eventually became homeless. Michael is taken in by Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy
who helped him to attend a private Catholic school, which is where their children as well received their education. Prior to school here Michael had
little education or skills to be successful in life. While attending Wingate Christian School, Michael began to play football. The Tuohyfamily provide
the nurturing environment that Michael needed to show his true potential. Leigh Anne and Sean eventually become Oher's legal guardians and help

an adolescent in the movie The Blind Side. He was a troubled African American boy, one of twelve, born to an addicted mother living in poverty in a

As a student athlete, balancing studies, sports, and outdoor activities complicated. Student athletes show grit by putting all of their effort into their
education and the sport being played. In the movie, The Blind Side, Michael Oher shows grit in balancing education and athletics. In the beginning,
Oher struggles to show grit in his own environment, however when he is welcomed to the Tuohy family he begins to progress by showing
determination in his studies and sports. At first, Oher struggled with motivation to go to school at a young age. His mother did not send him to
school, so he would not go on his own. This showed that he gave up easily and had low self–esteem issues as a young child. Despite not having either

He detached himself from the Tuohy's because he was African American and the family was White. This effected Oher because he felt as if he did

Oher the football plays. SJ also showed Oher film from practices and would point out what Oher was doing wrong and correct him on it. SJ was
not the only one who helped in football, Leigh Anne did as well when she taught Oher "The left tackle's job is to protect the quarterback from what
he can't see comin'," (The Blind Side). His biology and history teachers studies with him and would give him oral tests. His teachers found oral
tests helped him understand the class material better (The Blind Side). Oher began to believe in himself when he noticed that others were believe in
him. With the support from SJ, Leigh Anne, his teachers, and his tutor, he is more accepted into the family and society. Oher is slowly starting to
gain confidence in himself. It would be the adoption that would completely change Oher. "Well, Leigh Anne and I, we're..., well we'd like to become
your legal guardians. What it means, is, is that, we want to know if you would like to become part of this family," (The Blind Side) when this was
asked to Oher, he automatically felt accepted. He was not only adopted into the Tuohy family, but adopted into the football family. He was able to

The movie The Blind Side was released in 2009. It is about a young man, named Michael Oher, who grew up in a poor environment. In the beginning
of the movie, Michael was homeless and not currently attending school. All of that changed when a woman, named Leigh Anne Tuohy, offered
Michael the chance to stay with her and her family. The Tuohy family was well off, unlike Michael, so it was an adjustment for both the family and
him to live together. However, the family was very warm and welcoming to Michael, which differed from many of the other people Michael
encountered. In the movie, Michael experienced racism, discrimination, and prejudice towards him from a variety of people. Michael lived in a bad
area when he was a young boy. This...show more content...
Michael was laying on the ground because he was tackled but after the referee blew the whistle, a member from the other team kicked Michael in the
head. Michael did nothing to react in a threatening way, he just continued laying on the ground. His couch asked the referee why the other team did
not get a penalty for kicking Michael. The referee then waved his yellow rag and called "un–sportsman like conduct" for Michael team, despite the fact
that they did not do anything wrong. Another example of discrimination towards Michael on the field was when he was blocking a player on the
other team. Michael did not execute any foul plays, yet the referee's called out his team. The coach asked the referee what they did wrong and they
responded by saying, "I don't know... excessive blocking." The referee's obviously did not have a significant reason for blowing their whistles and
they likely would not have mentioned it if Michael was white. Similarly to real life, people are prejudice and racist towards people behind their
backs too. The movie displays a good example of this. As I previously mentioned, the Tuohy family had a large amount of money, they even owned
multiple chains of Taco Bell. Due to their money, Leigh Anne was friends with women who were wealthy as well. One day, Leigh Anne and her
friends were eating at an expensive restaurant and while they were waiting on their food, they began a conversation about Michael. One of the women

The Blind Side : Rhetorical Analysis Of A Film
"The Blind Side" Rhetorical Analysis of a film
Taking the bad in with the good, although you may be the perfect classification in order to be targeted in todays society. How you're classified is
based on things such as a persons race, intellect, social class, and appearance. A 2009 film, The Blind Side, written and directed by John Lee Hancock
stars, Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw, is based on a true story. This movie tells a story that truly depicts simple acts of kindness that has the
capability to change a persons life. This movie based off of a southern family living in Memphis, Tennessee will show you a true taste of southern
hospitality. In every film you have your list of characters along with their personalities and most importantly their motives. Along with the certain
qualities of every character comes the ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos which stands for the goodness of a film and/or ethics goes hand in hand with
the sender of a film, Pathos which is the passion and emotions of a film which goes hand in hand with the receiver, and lastly the logos which is the
logic/information that sends a message. Each rhetoric sends a message and surely puts a movie together. Leanne Tuohy, plays a huge role in the ethos
factor. Her ethics as a person that the director created for her character shows compassion, kindness, and selflessness. Mrs. Tuohy takes in an
African–American poverty stricken male, Michael Oher, on a rainy evening. Her senses told her that he did not have a place to go so kindly enough
she offers him her home resorting on him sleeping on a spare couch. Pulling up to the Tuohy's residence Michael was in awe at the size of their
home or shall I say mansion, little did he know that he would eventually become a part of this family shortly. Leanne shows character by her
gentleness with Michael, knowing he came from a rough part of town and was not as fortunate. She not only gives to Michael as if he was her
own, but she also cares for him as if he was her own. At a brunch with fellow friends a comment was made by one of her friends, "Honey, you're
changing that boys life" as Leanne replies she says, "No he's changing mine." The overall ethos of this movie shows that you should never judge a book

It is not mentally not looking at circumstances with eyes that see only what you want to see". In other words using Positive Self–Talk shows us the
truth on real situations. For example: you were trying out for the school volleyball team and you messed up on bumping the ball, when the
negative thoughts occur that is when the positive self talk will take place "ok I'm now going to focus on what I need to complete in order to make
it on the team." There is a way in which you can develop a positive self talk habit, there are 3 steps and the first one is "Mantra", choose a mantra
and find a positive self talk for example; "I feel strong". This positive self talk will encourage you to feel motivated. The second step is "Practice
Multiple Scenarios"after using the positive self talk from step one, repeat the line so you can practice having it sink in your brain. It will help you
during real situations in sports a example for this step is "Anything can happen, and I'm definitely not out of this, Don't let up". Finally, the last step
called "Creating A Positive Mental Image Or Visualization" this technique can help you create a visual picture on what you are doing and saying This
powerful combination will create a positive message. Mental Imagery plays a role in our lives, it helps us plan for the future and make decisions.

Examples Of Motivation In The Blind Side Movie
Adapted from a real story, The Blind Side movie directed by John Lee Hancock in 2009 does give a lot of lessons to viewers and audiences in terms
of motivation on someone to success. Growing up without friends, siblings and he doesn't even know his father, yet still with help from the Tuohy's,

Through out the movie, there are some important characters that play a big role in shaping Michael Oher or Big Mike to become a star. Firstly, the

Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her role playing Oher's adoptive mother Leigh Anne Tuohy in the film, which got more than $300million at the box

Setting of the movie:
This movie took place in Memphis in 2009.

The Blind Side Scene Analysis
In the opening sequence of the film 'the blind side' the director has used several different techniques to establish setting, main characters, relationship,
contrast, theme and flash back.
The opening scene begins with a voiceover by Leigh Anne who explains football trick plays and the importance of the left tackle, the quarterback's
blind side.A long shot is used so that the audience can see the contrast between the two football teams. There is multiple times throughout the first scene
when the film gives the viewers the impression that the football match has been prerecorded as there is constant rewinds and pauses used to get a
better view of what is happening on the field. Leigh Anne also uses a lot of specialised language showing that

The Blind Side: Do You Have Any Place to Stay?
Based on the 2006 book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis, the 2009 film The Blind Side is the true story of Michael Oher. Oher
is an under privileged African American teenager living on the streets of Memphis who is taken in and adopted by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, an
affluent white couple. As much as the Tuohy family changed Michael's life he may have changed theirs even more. With no real special effects to
speak of, the design team had to rely on the basics such as lighting, camera angle, costumes, and props to recreate the events and...show more content...
However it seems that Hancock has put the main focus on the relationship between Michael and Leigh Anne throughout the movie just as in the
scene Do You Have Any Place to Stay? Hancock says "It really is two different stories, one of which is more of a question: Who is Michael Oher and
why did the stars align to shine so brightly on this kid from the projects in Memphis? And then on the other side, it's a great story about how this unique
family evolved, and the unconventional mother son relationship at its center. (The Blind Side Full Production Notes www.madeinatlantis.com )
Hancock must ensure that every element is in place to scenes captured on film are as he envisioned them. The production designer has a long list of
duties that begin early in production. The production designer first must collaborate with the director and cinematographer to establish the visual feel
and specific needs of the project. The production designer also directs key staff members in other departments such as the costume designer, the key
hair and make–up stylists, the special effects director and the locations manager. In The Blind Side in designing the sets, Production Designer Michael
Corenblith says he wanted to emphasize the disparity between East Memphis, where wealthy families like the Tuohys live, and the poverty of Hurt
Village, where Michael grew up on the other side of town. (The Blind Side Full Production Notes www.madeinatlantis.com)

Courage In The Film, The Blind Side
"Courage is a hard thing to figure...should you always do what others tell you to do? If you die trying for something important, then you have both
honor and courage, and that's pretty good. I think that's what the writer was saying, that you should hope for courage and try for honor. And maybe
even pray that the people telling you what to do have some too"(Michael Oher, The Blind Side, 2009). The Blind Side produced in 2009 by John Lee
Hancock follows the story and life of now NFL star Michael Oher. The movie features his impoverished upbringing to his adoption by Sean and Leigh
Ann Tuohy, and finally his drafting the Baltimore Ravens. Many concepts discussed in class have relevance in this movie focusing specially on the
importance of family, nature versus nurture themes, and intelligence.
Focusing specifically on the emphasis of family and its ties in Chapter 15, Sigelman and Rider argue that a family, "is a system; in that the family like

The Tuohy family consists of Sean and Leigh Ann Tuohy and their two children. This dynamic follows a "nuclear family" style– a father, mother, and
at least one child. Sean and Leigh Ann Tuohy's style of parenting features a "co–parenting style" also mentioned in chapter 15. They seem to have a
stable relationship where, "two parents coordinate their parenting and function well as a team in relation with their children" (Sigelman & Rider,
2012, p. 485). Sean and Leigh Ann's parenting generally has a positive effect in Michael life as they do talk to each other about the children, set
consistent rules, and are mutually supportive of each other and the children. Sigelman and Rider argue that mutually supportive parenting can make a
big difference in development, as it does in Michael's life: which attributed in part to Michael

THE BLIND SIDE Movie Review 'The Blind Side' is the real life story about Micheal Oher, an Afro–American football player and his struggles from
being an abandoned kid growing up in a foster home to a NFL (National Football League) player after being adopted by the family, the Touhys, who
were white skinned Americans. What makes 'The Blind Side' such a compelling story is the fact that it tells the true life story of a boy with little or
no prospects. It is a film about human relationships, the need to reach out to the ones less fortunate, but most importantly, it's a film about believing in
oneself and following one's convictions even when the whole world might be against you. One only has to see the movie and absorb as well as digest

This is very common for children living in inappropriate environment. The incidents they experience are like scars in their life. But these also
make the children aware of right and wrong. This was one of the major reasons why Michael did not get involved in drugs abuse. Another major
significance that the movie highlights is the existing and growing problem of gang fight deaths. The youth are at a constant threat of being dragged
into a life that is on the danger zone. This is most likely for kids who grow up in a dysfunctional environment and extreme poverty. Having
experienced violence on the home front and left with meager opportunities for education, teens are easily influenced to join gangs usually involved in
drug trafficking which can cost them their lives. In the movie, Michael has been exposed to the same kind of environment and may have fallen
victim to the same deaths that his hometown buddies experienced if it had not been for the saving grace of the Touhy family. Acceptance is a major
virtue preached by the selfless concern and love that the family extended to Michael which was reciprocated by protective love that was inherent in
him. The topic on racism was indeed slightly touched by the movie when Leigh Anne Touhy's socialite friends sarcastically praised her on her
charitable action but at the same time, warned her of the possibility that her daughter may be violated by Michael. Leigh Anne brushed this off and her

The Blind Side Film Analysis
The Blind Side" is an extraordinary film based on a true story. Michael Oher, an African American teenage boy is one of the main characters. He
grew up very poor in the inner city housing projects with his mother in Memphis Tennessee. He had no idea who is father was, and his mother was a
drug addict. Michael had very little formal education and very few skills in order to help him learn. It wasn't until Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy took him
into their home and made changes in Michael's life for the better. The Tuohy family had two kids of their own. A daughter Collins and a son S.J.
S.J was immediately accepting to the idea of taking in Michael, whereas Collins had a very difficult time. This may be because it was not a part of
Collins' normal culture. She saw Michael as an outsider for various reasons. He was a poor, homeless, African American. The Tuohy's were a very
wealthy, high class, white family. Collins worried what her peers at school would think and worried she would be looked at differently. Over time
she did not allow other people's opinions bother her and accepted Michael into her family. Leigh Anne made sure Michael knew he had every
opportunity to succeed just like everyone else. When she saw his interest in football, she made sure the coaches knew the best ways to use Michael's
skills. Not only did the Tuohy's provide Michael with a loving and caring home, but also hired a tutor in order for him to improve his education. If it

Sandra Bullock, who plays the role of Mrs.Tuohy, Tim McGraw, who portrays Mr.Tuohy, and new comer Quinton Aaron, who plays the lead asMichael

After giving Michael the unconditional love of a family, the Tuohys ask Michael would he like for them to become his legal guardians. Will Michael
find a home with the Tuohys or will he return back to the secluded and neglectful life that he once lived? The first positive characteristic of the film is
the Acting and the Characters. The actors/actresses in the film did an astounding job portraying the characters of the story. They went unfathomable
into the roles of the characters and add emotion and appeal to them. Sandra Bullock, with Quinton Aaron makes it convincing that she is Mrs.Tuohy
and that he is Michael Oher. Even though those two were the ones provide emotional appeal, the other cast masts all add something independently.
The father, Mr. Tuohy, exhibited the role of a positive male figure, who is supportive of everything that his family is involved in. Collins signifies the

including giving the coach a few ideas on how best to use Michael's skills. Leigh Anne family provide him with a loving home, hire a tutor to help
him improve his grades therefore he would qualify for athletic scholarship, buys him a vehicle and helps him get his driver license. Big Mike was

article, "When researching The Blind Side facts vs fiction, it was revealed that due to Michael Oher's poor and nearly non–existent academic record as
of 2002, the principal at Briarcrest insisted that he participate in a home school program for a few months first to get his grades up". This shows
that Michael had to do home schooling before being let into Briarcrest High School. All in all The Blind Side makes a lot of changes to add more
excitement and drama to the film. John Lee Hancock's choices in changing aspects of Michael Oher's life added excitement and drama to the
movie. For example, Hancock changes that Michael does not know how to play football. This adds drama to the movie because his adoptive family
now has to teach him how to play his position in football. Hancock also adds excitement when Michael gets into the High School right away, when
in reality he did not. This adds excitement by getting the audience excited to see what Michael will do at his new High school. These changes allow
John Lee Hancock to add excitement and drama to the movie. All in all The Blind Side is very similar to Michael Oher's life, but there are little things

Social Issues In The Blind Side

  • 1. Social Issues In The Blind Side The movie The Blind Side is based on a true story about Michael Oher, first round draft pick for the Baltimore Ravens in 2009. Oher grew up in the projects in Memphis to a drug–addicted mother and an absent father. Michael was eventually taken by family services and was placed in a number of different foster homes. He ran away from each home placement and eventually became homeless. Michael is taken in by Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who helped him to attend a private Catholic school, which is where their children as well received their education. Prior to school here Michael had little education or skills to be successful in life. While attending Wingate Christian School, Michael began to play football. The Tuohyfamily provide the nurturing environment that Michael needed to show his true potential. Leigh Anne and Sean eventually become Oher's legal guardians and help him become successful in school as well as excel with his interest in football. This movie story into Oher's life display social issues, obstacles, and triumph was overcome by Oher in order for him to achieve his dream with the guidance and stability provided from the Tuohy family.Michael Oher is an adolescent in the movie The Blind Side. He was a troubled African American boy, one of twelve, born to an addicted mother living in poverty in a housing project in Memphis. One of the challenges faced by Oher is that as a child Michael was exposed to drugs, alcohol, and violence. He eventually became a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Blind Side Essay As a student athlete, balancing studies, sports, and outdoor activities complicated. Student athletes show grit by putting all of their effort into their education and the sport being played. In the movie, The Blind Side, Michael Oher shows grit in balancing education and athletics. In the beginning, Oher struggles to show grit in his own environment, however when he is welcomed to the Tuohy family he begins to progress by showing determination in his studies and sports. At first, Oher struggled with motivation to go to school at a young age. His mother did not send him to school, so he would not go on his own. This showed that he gave up easily and had low self–esteem issues as a young child. Despite not having either of his parents in...show more content... He detached himself from the Tuohy's because he was African American and the family was White. This effected Oher because he felt as if he did not belong. It was not until he found himself studying plays with SJ, which he began to see potential in himself. SJ would use spices to show Oher the football plays. SJ also showed Oher film from practices and would point out what Oher was doing wrong and correct him on it. SJ was not the only one who helped in football, Leigh Anne did as well when she taught Oher "The left tackle's job is to protect the quarterback from what he can't see comin'," (The Blind Side). His biology and history teachers studies with him and would give him oral tests. His teachers found oral tests helped him understand the class material better (The Blind Side). Oher began to believe in himself when he noticed that others were believe in him. With the support from SJ, Leigh Anne, his teachers, and his tutor, he is more accepted into the family and society. Oher is slowly starting to gain confidence in himself. It would be the adoption that would completely change Oher. "Well, Leigh Anne and I, we're..., well we'd like to become your legal guardians. What it means, is, is that, we want to know if you would like to become part of this family," (The Blind Side) when this was asked to Oher, he automatically felt accepted. He was not only adopted into the Tuohy family, but adopted into the football family. He was able to discover his talents Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. The movie The Blind Side was released in 2009. It is about a young man, named Michael Oher, who grew up in a poor environment. In the beginning of the movie, Michael was homeless and not currently attending school. All of that changed when a woman, named Leigh Anne Tuohy, offered Michael the chance to stay with her and her family. The Tuohy family was well off, unlike Michael, so it was an adjustment for both the family and him to live together. However, the family was very warm and welcoming to Michael, which differed from many of the other people Michael encountered. In the movie, Michael experienced racism, discrimination, and prejudice towards him from a variety of people. Michael lived in a bad area when he was a young boy. This...show more content... Michael was laying on the ground because he was tackled but after the referee blew the whistle, a member from the other team kicked Michael in the head. Michael did nothing to react in a threatening way, he just continued laying on the ground. His couch asked the referee why the other team did not get a penalty for kicking Michael. The referee then waved his yellow rag and called "un–sportsman like conduct" for Michael team, despite the fact that they did not do anything wrong. Another example of discrimination towards Michael on the field was when he was blocking a player on the other team. Michael did not execute any foul plays, yet the referee's called out his team. The coach asked the referee what they did wrong and they responded by saying, "I don't know... excessive blocking." The referee's obviously did not have a significant reason for blowing their whistles and they likely would not have mentioned it if Michael was white. Similarly to real life, people are prejudice and racist towards people behind their backs too. The movie displays a good example of this. As I previously mentioned, the Tuohy family had a large amount of money, they even owned multiple chains of Taco Bell. Due to their money, Leigh Anne was friends with women who were wealthy as well. One day, Leigh Anne and her friends were eating at an expensive restaurant and while they were waiting on their food, they began a conversation about Michael. One of the women said "Hey, does Michael get the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. The Blind Side : Rhetorical Analysis Of A Film "The Blind Side" Rhetorical Analysis of a film Taking the bad in with the good, although you may be the perfect classification in order to be targeted in todays society. How you're classified is based on things such as a persons race, intellect, social class, and appearance. A 2009 film, The Blind Side, written and directed by John Lee Hancock stars, Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw, is based on a true story. This movie tells a story that truly depicts simple acts of kindness that has the capability to change a persons life. This movie based off of a southern family living in Memphis, Tennessee will show you a true taste of southern hospitality. In every film you have your list of characters along with their personalities and most importantly their motives. Along with the certain qualities of every character comes the ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos which stands for the goodness of a film and/or ethics goes hand in hand with the sender of a film, Pathos which is the passion and emotions of a film which goes hand in hand with the receiver, and lastly the logos which is the logic/information that sends a message. Each rhetoric sends a message and surely puts a movie together. Leanne Tuohy, plays a huge role in the ethos factor. Her ethics as a person that the director created for her character shows compassion, kindness, and selflessness. Mrs. Tuohy takes in an African–American poverty stricken male, Michael Oher, on a rainy evening. Her senses told her that he did not have a place to go so kindly enough she offers him her home resorting on him sleeping on a spare couch. Pulling up to the Tuohy's residence Michael was in awe at the size of their home or shall I say mansion, little did he know that he would eventually become a part of this family shortly. Leanne shows character by her gentleness with Michael, knowing he came from a rough part of town and was not as fortunate. She not only gives to Michael as if he was her own, but she also cares for him as if he was her own. At a brunch with fellow friends a comment was made by one of her friends, "Honey, you're changing that boys life" as Leanne replies she says, "No he's changing mine." The overall ethos of this movie shows that you should never judge a book Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Sports Psychology In The Movies: The Blind Side Sports Psychology In The Movies: "The Blind Side" The movie "The Blind Side" originally written by: Michael Lewis is about a highschool boy named Michael Oher who gets adopted by the Tuohy family. The family financially help Michael with his school grades in order to play football, after his grades went up Michael got the proper training to play in his school team. Eventually, he struggles but Sean motivates Michael training him using Football strategies. Sean recorded a video of his sports performance Therefore it made him famous and received a scholarship. The two intervention strategies that were used in the movie were Imagery and Self Talk. First off, Mental Imagery was used in the movie in order for Michael to have a well sports performance....show more content... It is not mentally not looking at circumstances with eyes that see only what you want to see". In other words using Positive Self–Talk shows us the truth on real situations. For example: you were trying out for the school volleyball team and you messed up on bumping the ball, when the negative thoughts occur that is when the positive self talk will take place "ok I'm now going to focus on what I need to complete in order to make it on the team." There is a way in which you can develop a positive self talk habit, there are 3 steps and the first one is "Mantra", choose a mantra and find a positive self talk for example; "I feel strong". This positive self talk will encourage you to feel motivated. The second step is "Practice Multiple Scenarios"after using the positive self talk from step one, repeat the line so you can practice having it sink in your brain. It will help you during real situations in sports a example for this step is "Anything can happen, and I'm definitely not out of this, Don't let up". Finally, the last step called "Creating A Positive Mental Image Or Visualization" this technique can help you create a visual picture on what you are doing and saying This powerful combination will create a positive message. Mental Imagery plays a role in our lives, it helps us plan for the future and make decisions. Although there are some people who never experience mental imagery. • 6. Examples Of Motivation In The Blind Side Movie Adapted from a real story, The Blind Side movie directed by John Lee Hancock in 2009 does give a lot of lessons to viewers and audiences in terms of motivation on someone to success. Growing up without friends, siblings and he doesn't even know his father, yet still with help from the Tuohy's, Michael Oher is now one of the shining stars in football arena. Below are some terms that have been analyzed through out the scene and characters in the movie that portray and explain the journey of Micheal to success. Through out the movie, there are some important characters that play a big role in shaping Michael Oher or Big Mike to become a star. Firstly, the Tuohy's in which consist of Leigh Anne, Sean, Sean Junior (SJ) and Collins, their daughter. We also can see some of Michael teacher that takes place to teach him and the appearance of his mother, Denise Oher in the middle of the movie. Some conflicts then can be seen is when Leigh Anne get a called from NCAA office on to explain about Michael's weird predicament. After that, the movie just continue with high sense of motivation from how hard Michael practices to be a good football and most importantly how people surround him never give up to build the road of...show more content... But as Leigh Anne have explained to Michael that she will support on whatever choices that he make, Michael then come back to the NCAA office to continue his session with the investigator. The Blind Side is about Michael following becoming a professional football player, but more so, about how his adoption into the Tuohy family got him there. Quinton Aaron know as Michael Oher in the movie knows nothing about family. The only thing he knows are the streets and gangs of Memphis. Michael has no idea who his father is and his mother is a drug addict. Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her role playing Oher's adoptive mother Leigh Anne Tuohy in the film, which got more than $300million at the box office. Setting of the movie: This movie took place in Memphis in 2009. • 9. The Blind Side Scene Analysis In the opening sequence of the film 'the blind side' the director has used several different techniques to establish setting, main characters, relationship, contrast, theme and flash back. The opening scene begins with a voiceover by Leigh Anne who explains football trick plays and the importance of the left tackle, the quarterback's blind side.A long shot is used so that the audience can see the contrast between the two football teams. If you die trying for something important, then you have both honor and courage, and that's pretty good. I think that's what the writer was saying, that you should hope for courage and try for honor. And maybe even pray that the people telling you what to do have some too"(Michael Oher, The Blind Side, 2009). The Blind Side produced in 2009 by John Lee Hancock follows the story and life of now NFL star Michael Oher. The movie features his impoverished upbringing to his adoption by Sean and Leigh Ann Tuohy, and finally his drafting the Baltimore Ravens. Many concepts discussed in class have relevance in this movie focusing specially on the importance of family, nature versus nurture themes, and intelligence. The Tuohy family consists of Sean and Leigh Ann Tuohy and their two children. This dynamic follows a "nuclear family" style– a father, mother, and at least one child. Sean and Leigh Ann Tuohy's style of parenting features a "co–parenting style" also mentioned in chapter 15. They seem to have a stable relationship where, "two parents coordinate their parenting and function well as a team in relation with their children" (Sigelman & Rider, 2012, p. 485). Sean and Leigh Ann's parenting generally has a positive effect in Michael life as they do talk to each other about the children, set consistent rules, and are mutually supportive of each other and the children. Sigelman and Rider argue that mutually supportive parenting can make a big difference in development, as it does in Michael's life: which attributed in part to Michael Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 15. The Blind Side THE BLIND SIDE Movie Review 'The Blind Side' is the real life story about Micheal Oher, an Afro–American football player and his struggles from being an abandoned kid growing up in a foster home to a NFL (National Football League) player after being adopted by the family, the Touhys, who were white skinned Americans. What makes 'The Blind Side' such a compelling story is the fact that it tells the true life story of a boy with little or no prospects. It is a film about human relationships, the need to reach out to the ones less fortunate, but most importantly, it's a film about believing in oneself and following one's convictions even when the whole world might be against you. One only has to see the movie and absorb as well as digest ...show more content... This is very common for children living in inappropriate environment. The incidents they experience are like scars in their life. But these also make the children aware of right and wrong. This was one of the major reasons why Michael did not get involved in drugs abuse. Another major significance that the movie highlights is the existing and growing problem of gang fight deaths. The youth are at a constant threat of being dragged into a life that is on the danger zone. This is most likely for kids who grow up in a dysfunctional environment and extreme poverty. Having experienced violence on the home front and left with meager opportunities for education, teens are easily influenced to join gangs usually involved in drug trafficking which can cost them their lives. In the movie, Michael has been exposed to the same kind of environment and may have fallen victim to the same deaths that his hometown buddies experienced if it had not been for the saving grace of the Touhy family. Acceptance is a major virtue preached by the selfless concern and love that the family extended to Michael which was reciprocated by protective love that was inherent in him. The topic on racism was indeed slightly touched by the movie when Leigh Anne Touhy's socialite friends sarcastically praised her on her charitable action but at the same time, warned her of the possibility that her daughter may be violated by Michael. Leigh Anne brushed this off and her family's acceptance Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. The Blind Side Film Analysis The Blind Side" is an extraordinary film based on a true story. Michael Oher, an African American teenage boy is one of the main characters. He grew up very poor in the inner city housing projects with his mother in Memphis Tennessee. He had no idea who is father was, and his mother was a drug addict. Michael had very little formal education and very few skills in order to help him learn. It wasn't until Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy took him into their home and made changes in Michael's life for the better. The Tuohy family had two kids of their own. A daughter Collins and a son S.J. S.J was immediately accepting to the idea of taking in Michael, whereas Collins had a very difficult time. This may be because it was not a part of Collins' normal culture. She saw Michael as an outsider for various reasons. He was a poor, homeless, African American. The Tuohy's were a very wealthy, high class, white family. Collins worried what her peers at school would think and worried she would be looked at differently. Over time she did not allow other people's opinions bother her and accepted Michael into her family. Leigh Anne made sure Michael knew he had every opportunity to succeed just like everyone else. When she saw his interest in football, she made sure the coaches knew the best ways to use Michael's skills. Not only did the Tuohy's provide Michael with a loving and caring home, but also hired a tutor in order for him to improve his education. The movie exemplifies the works of talented actors and actresses, some of whom are familiar and others that are new to the acting world. The names of the Main characters are as follows: Sandra Bullock, who plays the role of Mrs.Tuohy, Tim McGraw, who portrays Mr.Tuohy, and new comer Quinton Aaron, who plays the lead asMichael Oher. Michael continues to stay with the family and even pulls his grades up enough to play football for the school. After giving Michael the unconditional love of a family, the Tuohys ask Michael would he like for them to become his legal guardians. Will Michael find a home with the Tuohys or will he return back to the secluded and neglectful life that he once lived? The first positive characteristic of the film is the Acting and the Characters. The actors/actresses in the film did an astounding job portraying the characters of the story. They went unfathomable into the roles of the characters and add emotion and appeal to them. Sandra Bullock, with Quinton Aaron makes it convincing that she is Mrs.Tuohy and that he is Michael Oher. Even though those two were the ones provide emotional appeal, the other cast masts all add something independently. The father, Mr. Tuohy, exhibited the role of a positive male figure, who is supportive of everything that his family is involved in. Collins signifies the role of the average American adolescent.
