2. Genre
I’m Here could be classed as a hybrid genre.
For example it could be:
• Science Fiction
o A typical science fiction is set in another world or dimensions. This is shown
in I’m Here as the world is a very different setting to the normal world of
today.
• Romantic Drama
o A typical romantic drama contains a romance normally between a man
and a woman. It is a sub genre which explores the complex side of love
• Tragedy
• Typical features of a tragedy film is the loss of a main character. The film is
normally emotional. It is a drama in which a character's downfall is
caused by a flaw in their character or by a major error in judgment.
3. Representation
• The kind of world represented in the film is quite sinister which is
the opposite of the main character Sheldon. It is an unhappy
world.
• There is prejudice in the film, this is highlighted when the
woman at the bus stop shouts at Francesca whilst she is driving
in her car.
• The main character Sheldon is kind and caring and willing to
give up anything.
• Whereas Francesca is self destructive and a bit of a take
which is a traditional view of a woman within a relationship.
• There are a number of messages given out in the film I’m Here.
It shows romance as an ideology and that it is not always
equal. The film also shows women as the weaker sex and that
they are normally the takers.
4. Audience
• It is likely that I’m here is aimed at an audience of young
people who are probably girls and interested in romantic films.
• I think the film is most likely to be viewed on the internet as it is
easy to access.
• I think Absolut Vodka sponsored I’m Here to make it aimed at
a slightly older audience (over 18’s).There is also a lot of party
films in the seen which help to promote the vodka.
5. The Director
• The director must have wanted the audience to feel the
difference in relationships. Spike Jonze may have also wanted
the audience to see things from other peoples perspectives.
