A cross–sectional analysis indicates that the share price response is mainly a function of the relative

sector membership were unsuccessful in explaining variations in the market responses they
observed. Equally, Accounting Forum has been interested in the interdependencies between social
and environmental accounting which extend to the nexus between accounting and information to

evidence concerning the evolution of reporting about employees in the last century and its

in support of two paradigm shifts necessary for serious implementation of public policy initiatives
aimed at its promotion.
An Introduction to Sustainable Development
In 1980 and again in 1992, Presidents Jimmy Carter and George Bush faced rough economic times
and partially blamed environmental policy. Both presidents––men that had campaigned as
environmentalists––scaled back environmental regulation in hopes of stimulating the economy and
their re–election campaigns (Krupp). The men failed on both accounts, and compromised
environmental protection for supposed economic benefits.
Evidence suggests that the environment need not be pitted against economic well–being as Bush,
Carter, and many others have done; sustainable development is the key to ensuring well–being of
today's citizens as well as future generations.
A 1996 essay by British Member of Parliament Chris Smith analyzed many of the "jobs versus
environment" claims made by opponents of environmental regulation. Chris Smith states that lost
jobs often attributed to environmental legislation would often have soon been eliminated anyway; in
many cases, environmental policy serves as a convenient scapegoat. He cites incidents in which jobs
are actually created by enactment of environmentally–friendly public policy. For example, a

Global Warming has been emerged as one of the potential threat in the world. It is estimated that
there will be an increment of temperature between 1.1oc – 6.4oc in the time period 1990 – 2100 due
to man–made gas emission (FAO). The global warming is adversely affecting the tourism sectors in

Geoscience Union, found that the estimated 5500 glaciers in the Hindu Kush–Himalayas region –
site of Mount Everest and many of the world's tallest peaks – could reduce their volume by 70% –
99% by 2100 with dire consequences for farming and hydropower generation and, ultimately, for
tourism industry. Moreover, the lead author of the research, Joseph Shea pointed out that persistent
and possibly accelerated loss from glacier is probable because of future change in climate and
temperature.

capital for survival. Human capital relies on clean air, groundwater, surface water, food, soil for

climate control and regulation, and so much more. Many of the goods and services provided to
humans by natural capital go unnoticed and as a result, natural capital is taken for granted.

natural capital. The essay discusses problems like human waste and states that we should be able to

I think I am living unsustainably because I don't feel that I limit myself as to how much I waste

defined behavior indefinitely. I was raised respecting the environment around me and how to treat it
correctly. I recently visited Memorial Park in Loma Mar, California. I love nature and being in it was
great, but, there was something odd about my visit. As I approached a tree I have passed hundreds of
times I saw and orange rope around it meaning to stay away from that tree. The tree seemed burned a
bit and was surrounded by plastic bottles. The air was fresh but the only thing my nose picked up
was of the burning coal on the grills. I felt cool air come past me and once again ... Show more
I took a step back and on the other side of that stream I could see deer roaming around and climbing
up higher as I kept turning back. Every couple hundred feet I would walk past some type of plastic
object and would keep going my way. I enjoyed being at the park even though it is very clean. It
breaks my heart knowing every time I go I will see more and more trash. How will it look like in
twenty years? Probably almost in a landfill. A lot of people do not know when to take a step and do
what's best for the environment even if others do not do it. This will end up like tragedy of the
commons. People will one day look back at this park and say, " There used to be lobsters there", or
even, " people used to camp there." There is little water in this park and state and people just waste
water by playing around with it and putting it on their grass. People back then would use water for
drinking and showering while our generation exploits and takes for granted something that the next
generation should savor of as well. People are becoming more ignorant and wasting water and will
one day realize how idiotic their actions were and where it took
