Rural Development
Rural development is the process
of improving the quality of life and
economic well- being of people
living in rural areas
.
Importance of Rural Development
Main importance of rural
development is to
improved rural creation and
productivity, higher socio-economic
equality, ambition, stability in social
and economic development
Characteristics of Rural area
• They have many
general characteristics, such as: A
small population size. A smaller
choice when it comes to shopping,
medical services, and so on. No
competition among the rural people.
Lack of education and awareness.
Strategies of Rural development
• In rural communities, there are number of
aspects that need to be developed. These
include,
• education
• employment opportunities,
• agriculture and farming practices,
administration and management,
infrastructure and health care facilities
Objectives of Rural development
1.The basic objectives of Rural
Development Program to reduce poverty
and unemployment through creation of
basic social and economic infrastructure,
provision of training to rural unemployed
youth and providing employment to
marginal Farmers/Labourers to discourage
seasonal and permanent migration to
urban places.
Social Change and Development
Society is subject to constant
changes. The term social change
refers to changes taking place in
human society. Basically the
changes in human inter-actions
and inter relations, indicate social
change.
Sociologists define social
change as changes in human
interactions and relationships that
transform cultural
and social institutions.
These changes occur over time and
often have long-term consequences on
society.
• Social change is focused on the methods
of why and how society's change, for
better or for worse, while social
development is about making life better
and successful, for example
• Abolition of child marriage, inter-caste
marriage, high status to Indian women is
some of the important instances of social
change
Social Development
• . Social Development refers to
how people develop social and
emotional skills across the
lifespan, Healthy social
development allows us to form
positive relationships with family,
friends, teachers, and other
people in our lives.
• The success of society is linked to the
well-being of each and every
citizen. Social development means
investing in people. It requires the removal
of barriers so people can live happily.
• The characteristics of social
development are often associated by the
skill of cooperation, rotation,
initiative/leadership, sharing, discipline and
participation.
• Social Development provide
opportunity for citizens to determine their
own and their society's needs and to
influence decisions that affect Social
change , Social development requires
proper economic policy , cooperation of
people , which can bring fast positive
change in society.
• Social change incorporates public
concerns in developing social policy
and economic initiatives. - higher
incomes, longer life expectancy,
more and better education,
Industrialization, Urbanization etc.
• Social policy is affected
by social developments, it changes based
on the needs of individuals. ... Thus,
the development of a country is not
possible only through
economic growth but also by achieving a
fair and balanced growth to
solve social problems.
Impact of Social Change
• Social change has a direct impact on the
basic structure and functions of the social
institutions. Technology is considered as
a powerful tool of social change.
Technology has totally changed the style
of living. Meanwhile, the effect of
technology is apparent on all the social
institutions.
