The Pebble smart watch allows the
users to download or develop
customized watch faces and apps.
The watch apps are developed based
on Pebble SDK 2.0 on Linux in C.
The Pebble smart watch can exchange
data with its paired mobile device.
(Android/iOS).
Demonstration

The demo watch app is developed to
extend the functionality of our Astute
Android-based application.

•

After log in the Android application, the
watch app starts automatically and
shows the indicators of the robot cells.
Indicator view

•

The indicator shows four types of parameters in real time:
Overall equipment effectiveness, quality, KIP value and robot
state. They are meaningful particularly for maintenance and
operators to get a sense of the present state of equipment.

The values of twelve robot cells are shown sequentially in a
loop.
Alert view

The demo app shows alert with vibration to notify
the user about system events from the
production line immediately so that the user can
response fast.
Different types of alerts are predefined. The
user would get accurate info about the system
event.

Production info view

Pressing the Up button shows the production
info.

The production info presents the real-time
production output value monthly and daily and
the yield value, which are meaningful for the
production planners.

What can smart watches offer to the manufacturing industry?

•

Integrated with our Astute Android application, the Pebble smart watch app provides a easy way for the user
to obtain the production information in real time, particularly when the user’s hands are occupied or it is not
convenient for the user to interact with mobile devices. It is often the case for the maintenance in the factory
floor.

•

The interface is attached to the user in a natural way. The users would not feel it like a burden such as
mobile devices in some situations.

•

The user will get informed as soon as system events occur. It is less likely to miss the notification from the
production line.

•

With the increasing computation power and developing tools more mature, it is positive that smart watches
can further facilitate the manufacturing process.
