Ed Limon is the founder of Winged Whale Media, a promotional video production company. He has been in the digital media industry since 2003. In 2016, he expanded the company's services to include virtual and augmented reality, which has won them many awards. Limon started his own company in 2007 to have more control over the projects he produced and to pursue innovative ideas. What drives him is seeing the impact that impactful videos have and helping clients achieve their goals. The one thing he wants clients to understand is that video marketing is now more important than ever due to rising engagement with video content.
2. What I wish every client
knew about promotional
video production.
Ed Limon, the founder of Winged Whale Media, has
been advising clients & industry on promotional
video production since 2003. In 2016, his business
expanded their services into offering Virtual &
Augmented Reality, which has won him and his
company many awards over the years. We reached
out to Ed recently to get some insight into the use of
Promotional video in marketing.
3. Experience in
the industry?
I have worked in Digital Media since 2003 and worked
in-house in video production and sales until 2007 in
which I started my company. We have been producing
commercials and digital media for years until 2016 in
which we began our journey in Virtual &
Augmented Reality. Since then, we have been offering
both traditional photo/video and innovative solutions
like XR.
4. Why did you decide to start your own company?
Being in control of my own projects was important. Lots of great ideas
were brewing in my heart and soul throughout the years and I wanted to
make sure that I had the opportunity of producing the projects that
inspired me. Now we started with smaller projects as all starter
businesses do and we ended up producing close to 100 projects a year.
Yet the amount of work was exhausting and draining, and it took too
much time away from family. So, we revamped our business plan and
started building a more strategic approach to pick specific markets. It
wasn’t until 2014 when we were first introduced to the Travel &
Tourism Market where we find one of our true loves. We started to fly all
across the Caribbean and the USA to produce a series of commercials for
tour operators, hotels & corporations.
5. Why did you decide to start your own company?
(cont…)
My “why” is because I love producing impactful digital media. And the key
word here is “Impactful”. Why was that asset “impactful”? What was the
motivating strategy behind it? What was the impression and or objective that it
needed to convey and accomplish? I love seeing our work ‘work’ it’s magic
when it’s being circulated and used to help others reach their goals. And then
our team was introduced to VRAR applications. It’s important to get excited
about what you do because you see all the possibilities of how innovative ideas
can become an extension to your ideas and or to realize your client’s
objectives. So Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality has certainly piqued our
interest and we adapted to offer this innovative and strategic approach. If I was
working as an employee, I would never be able to embrace these exciting
technologies. So that is why we decided to start our own business. To enjoy
producing the projects that inspired us. And when one is inspired, the results
6. What drives you to
create great videos?
Again, I love the reaction and impact that my clients have
when they see the result. Not because it’s a great product,
but because this great product will drive the results that they
are aiming for when it goes public. Something else that
drives me is seeing the problem that they are trying to
address and then we bring unto the table some amazing
solutions to drive the results. Whether the results are
consumer facing and or for training and education. I love the
analyzing process that stems during the pre-production
phase. Then once everything is hashed out, then the real
magic happens during production.

great videos? (cont…)
When everything comes to life. We also get exposed to some of
the most beautiful destinations and get paid to experience so
many wonderful scenarios that we would never really embrace if
we were on a vacation at a particular destination. Imagine hitting
20-30 locations while on shoot in a country? And then
Postproduction. Getting to re-live the memories of pre-to
production. Seeing it all unfold. It’s an amazing feeling. But once
again, the best feeling I get. After it’s all said and done is seeing
the results being circulated. Television, the Web, Social Media,
Trade Shows, JumboTrons, etc. Knowing that the mission has
been accomplished and our clients are happy with the results.
8. What is the one thing you would like your clients to understand about
video marketing?
Just like the analogy that a picture speaks a thousand words,
imagine for a second what video can do in marketing
campaigns? That is the power of video marketing. It’s how it
can evoke emotions and realize stronger learning than
traditional photography. There are countless statistical articles
that speak to video marketing and the impact it has on all
viewers. Statistics have proven that 43% of people want to see
more video content from marketers and the average video
retains 37% of viewers all the way to the end. The one thing I
want our clients to understand is that video marketing is 150%
more crucial now than it was 10 years ago.
9. What is the
one thing you
would like your
clients to
understand
about video
marketing?

Newspapers and Printing Companies are hurting as print is
becoming a less desired medium for engagement amongst
clients. If anything, printing companies and newspapers are
repivoting themselves with a more digital approach. Once of my
personal friends has two magazines that he was publishing for
over 20 years and then his business started to hurt as less and
less sponsors were jumping on board. Then covid happened and
because he did not do the transition with his magazines online,
his company went bankrupt. Especially with this rising
generation, video marketing is the direction where viewers will
be more engaged.
