I describe my exprience in the attempt to learn modern software development environment Visual Studio 2010 through a new training system developed by Microsoft. It is in introduction phase (May2013). Maybe we can stop them when more negative experience becomes known via Social media,

Skillpipe‘s main feature: No books / paper for training anymore.
Instead second PCs to read online documentation.
Training PC connected
to Virtual Machine via Internet
+ Notebook as replacement of book/paper.
Online operation with training doc server.
40 min of class consumed just to set up connections and user environment !

My target was to get an own first hand experience of today‘s modern
software development environment. Visual Basic with Visual Studio 10.

After 1st Day I stopped the training. It was just to anoying and cumbersome.
The given „practical“ example were too theoretical;
Most of them could not even be simulated&tested in classroom.

Resume: Learning Visual Basich with Skillpipe – My opinion :
The used „new2 training system represents the opposite of „Lean“ culture.
It is „Not Lean“ training at ist worst. It is not centered aournd the student.
It is centered around the interest of the inventor (Microsoft) and local training
company. For them it the Skillpipe concept makes it easier
to make more money and it lowers the competence required for teaching.
The save money on printing material and they can sell a lot of training days for
an official Microsoft Training.
The training is not at all geared towards efficient grow of human skills !
