3. What is a six stroke engine.
The six stroke engine is a type of internal combustion
engine based on conventional four stroke engine.
Six stroke engine the name itself indicates a cycle of six
stroke.
A six stroke engine has two power strokes as compared to
one power stroke of the conventional four stroke engine.
It has some additional features to make it more energy
efficient and to reduce emission.
4. Approaches of six stroke engine design.
First approach
In the first approach, the engine captures the heat lost from the four stroke otto
cycle/diesel cycle and uses it to power an additional power and exhaust stroke of the
piston in the same cylinder.
Design uses either steam or air as the working .
Second approach
The second approach to the six stroke engine uses a second OPPOSED PISTON in
each cylinder that moves at half the cyclical rate of the main piston ,thus giving six
piston movements per cycle.

10. CROWER ENGINE
In six stroke engine prototype in the United State by Bruce
Crower ,water is injected into the cylinder after the exhaust
stroke and is instantly turned to steam, which expands and
forces the piston down for a additional power stroke .
Thus, waste heat that requires an air or water cooling
system to discharge in most engines is captured and put to
use driving the piston.
Crower estimated that his design would reduce fuel
consumption by 40% by generating the same power output
at a lower RPM .The weight associated with a cooling
system could be eliminated.
12. M4+2 six stroke engine
The new conception of combustion engine is
based on the combination of two engine . It
makes use of both two and four stroke engine
both the cylinder of the module of double engine
piston have been join along one common axis
with cylinder head in the form of the ring. The
piston are moved with different speed and with
appropriate stage displacement there are two
crankshaft which are connected with special
transmission. The four stroke crankshaft is
rotated with the speed of twice two stroke
crankshaft . The engine is named double pistons
because of its construction –double pistons and
crankshaft
13. Piston charge engine
In this engine ,a “piston charger ” replace the
valve system. The piston charge charges the
main cylinder and simultaneously regulates
the inlet and the outlet aperture leading to no
loss of air and fuel in the exhaust . In the main
cylinder , combustion takes place every turn
as in a two-stroke engine and lubrication as in
a four-stroke engine. Fuel injection can take
place in the piston charger, in the gas transfer
channel or in the combustion chamber,
14. Advantage of six stroke engine
1. Due to additional power stroke efficiency of the engine
increased.
2. Better scavenging and more extraction of work .
3. Reduction in fuel consumption by at least 40%.
4. No cooling system required like heat exchanger in case of
Crower six stroke engine.
5. Reduction in pollution like NOx, CO, CO2, photochemical
smog etc. up to 55%.
6. Increase in indicated thermal efficiency.
7. Minimize necessity of heat exchanger e.g. radiator.
15. Disadvantages
1. Brake power and indicated power per cycle per
cylinder is comparatively lesser.
2. Engine size increases due to many number of
cylinder and additional components.
3. Higher manufacturing cost of six stroke engine.
16. CONCLUSION
Drastically reducing fuel consumption [by 40%] and
pollution [by 60-90%] without radically affecting
performances.
It enables lower engine temperature and therefore
increases in the overall efficiency.
High break mean effective pressure.
Nowadays research and experiments are going on to
modify the engine further and to make it suitable for
practical use.
