SITUATION: Choose a country whose culture and language are different from your own, and about which you have no first-hand knowledge. In other words, you have never visited, worked, nor lived there. In an ever-changing world, intercultural business communication is one of the most vital aspects of carrying out business in foreign countries. We are set up to fail if we enter into foreign business agreements blindly. In the absence of proper communication skills, cultural awareness comes into play knowing the culture in which we are dealing. All of your concepts you may have grown up with and ideas that you have formed beforehand need to be thrown away and cast to the side. Your concepts and ideas in these business meetings will only be as effective as your communication skills. If your communications skills are weak so will be your presentation of your projected business plan. If I was going to develop a training program on the same, my lesson plan would look as illustrated below:

My developed training program will help my students target and grasp the importance of the concepts listed and how they connect to one another. You will need to know a number of things regarding Cultural Awareness, High vs. Low Context Cultures, and Verbal vs. Non-Verbal, Conversational Taboos, and Interaction Ethical/Unethical awareness, and connecting the objectives. “Low context language is where things are fully spelled out or made explicit where there is also considerable dependence on what is actually being said or written (Gibson, 2002).” Western cultures tend to be inclined more toward low context language while Eastern and
Southern cultures are more inclined to use high context language (LeBaron, 2003).“High context language is whereby communicators assume a great deal of commonality of opinions and knowledge so that not much is made explicit (Novinger, 2001).” In other words, communication is in indirect ways. It is of crucial importance for business individuals venturing overseas to learn more about the business culture and etiquette present in countries such as Mexico, China, United Arab Emirates and Israel as they are not the same as the American business culture.

critical when there is a real risk of your message getting “lost in translation.” In many
international companies, English is the de facto language of business. But more than just the
language you speak, it’s how you convey your message that’s important. For instance, while the
Finns may value directness and brevity, professionals from India can be more indirect and
nuanced in their communication. Moreover, while fluent English might give you a professional
boost globally, understanding the importance of subtle non-verbal communication between
cultures can be equally crucial in international business.
What might be commonplace in your culture — be it a firm handshake, making direct eye
contact, or kiss on the cheek — could be unusual or even offensive to a foreign colleague or
client. Where possible, do your research in advance of professional interactions with individuals
from a different culture. Remember to be perceptive to body language, and when in doubt, ask.
While navigating cross-cultural communication can be a challenge, approaching cultural
differences with sensitivity, openness, and curiosity can help to put everyone at ease.

any form, remember that the committee/manager probably has to read through letters from many different
applicants, and you want your letter to stand out. If you are writing a letter to praise/criticize an
organization’s goods or services, offer the details of your experience: answer the who, what, when, and
where. Did you receive service at a particular branch or location? Did a specific associate assist you?
Were there any extenuating circumstances particular to your experience? This will probably end up being
the longest paragraph of your letter, or, if necessary, you can split the paragraph into two smaller
paragraphs.
Your third paragraph should wrap up your letter by briefly restating your purpose and its importance. You
should thank your reader for their time and offer your hopes for the outcome of your letter (that you get
chosen for a desired position, that a grievance is resolved, that a particularly helpful employee is praised,
etc.). Finally, offer your reader a way to contact you in case they need more information, want to follow
up, or set up an interview time. End your letter with a simple farewell (usually “Sincerely”).

Purpose of the Trade Manual
The purpose of the Trade Manual is to serve as a source of information to Canadian businesses and workers that wish to invest/expand/trade/work with the chosen IB country. This is the audience who you are writing and presenting your country too.
What the Trade Manual will look like
Students will design their Trade Manual in a professional manner. Basically, it will consist of 10 two-page double spaced (Times New Roman 12) reports, representing the course material studied throughout the semester. Each chapter section will be written in proper English with a complete response.
Chapters must be assigned to an individual group member who will be individually evaluated using the Final Trade Manual Rubric.

In an ever-changing world, intercultural business communication is one of the most vital aspects of carrying out business in foreign countries. We are set up to fail if we enter into foreign business agreements blindly. In the absence of proper communication skills, cultural awareness comes into play knowing the culture in which we are dealing. All of your concepts you may have grown up with and ideas that you have formed beforehand need to be thrown away and cast to the side. Your concepts and ideas in these business meetings will only be as effective as your communication skills. If your communications skills are weak so will be your presentation of your projected business plan. If I was going to develop a training program on the same, my lesson plan would look as illustrated below:
I. Class Objectives: The goals or objectives for class include understanding how language affects intercultural business communications and learning about different cultures and how they communicate when conducting business activities.

My developed training program will help my students target and grasp the importance of the concepts listed and how they connect to one another. You will need to know a number of things regarding Cultural Awareness, High vs. Low Context Cultures, and Verbal vs. Non-Verbal, Conversational Taboos, and Interaction Ethical/Unethical awareness, and connecting the objectives. “Low context language is where things are fully spelled out or made explicit where there is also considerable dependence on what is actually being said or written (Gibson, 2002).” Western cultures tend to be inclined more toward low context language while Eastern and
Southern cultures are more inclined to use high context language (LeBaron, 2003).“High context language is whereby communicators assume a great deal of commonality of opinions and knowledge so that not much is made explicit (Novinger, 2001).” In other words, communication is in indirect ways. It is of crucial importance for business individuals venturing overseas to learn more about the business culture and etiquette present in countries such as Mexico, China, United Arab Emirates and Israel as they are not the same as the American business culture.

Purpose of the Trade Manual
The purpose of the Trade Manual is to serve as a source of information to Canadian businesses and workers that wish to invest/expand/trade/work with the chosen IB country. This is the audience who you are writing and presenting your country too.
What the Trade Manual will look like
Students will design their Trade Manual in a professional manner. Basically, it will consist of 10 two-page double spaced (Times New Roman 12) reports, representing the course material studied throughout the semester. Each chapter section will be written in proper English with a complete response.
Chapters must be assigned to an individual group member who will be individually evaluated using the Final Trade Manual Rubric.

The challenge is to provide details that will let them see how much risk is involved in doing business in this country. There is a mix of opinions on this topic. Some in the audience believe doing business could be profitable. Some are against the idea because of negative stories they have heard about the country and customs.
Your task is to convince the partners that you can train the employees and interns before they travel to a particular foreign country. The audience expects a factual report that sheds light on the economic, political, and social environment in that country to help them make an informed decision about doing business or sending employees or interns there. It is believed that the concept of sociology emerged when the European social observers began to test their ideas scientifically and the Europeans came up with three factors to explain the origin of sociology. Looking at their argument, then it will try to assume that sociology started with the Europeans but this is not true because people still lived in social groups long before the Europeans tested their ideas scientifically. (Pierre Saint-Arnaud, 2009)
Looking back at the meaning of the term sociology, it is simply the study of society; it involves how people interact either in groups or in their environs thus the statement clearly states that the term sociology is much older than the European social observers because people have been living in groups and interacting, the Europeans only studied this scientifically but did not introduce the social life to people. (Graaff, 2001)

The symbolic interaction theory could best suite the thesis statement this is because it explains on the fact that people develop and rely on the process of interacting socially. Symbolic interaction theory studies society in a subjective meaning because it is believed that people react and behave depending on what they believe is true. Thus, society is believed to be constructed socially through the interpretation of humans. People interpret one another’s behavior and these interpretations form the social bond.(Buket Kısac, 2009)

In other words, you have never visited, worked, nor lived there. Assume you work for a U.S.-based business. (If needed, your organization may be disguised or fictionalized.) Your business seeks to open communication with an executive in a business within the other country. She is I.M. Cantata, Senior Vice President, International Mechanistics Group (IMG). You have been chosen to start the dialogue. Your mission is to begin communication successfully and avoid making any cultural blunders. So, before writing your letter, invest some time to study the other culture carefully. Use any relevant resources you can find—for example: (a) Articles in our Week 2 Discussion topics. (b) CIA World Factbook (c) U.S. State Department Country Profiles (d) Other relevant resources (as found in the UMUC Library ). (e) An Internet search using the name of the country plus the terms < do's and taboos >. ASSIGNMENT: Write an introductory letter to I.M. Cantata that: (a) establishes a positive rapport, (b) introduces your company in a favorable way, and (c) lays the groundwork for a potential business alliance between your company and IMG. Be sure to apply all the lessons we’ve learned about effective intercultural communication and avoid making any cultural blunders. AUDIENCE: I.M.
