Importance of technology
Students today learn much better when actively engaged, cognitively and
socially in a digital classroom. There is no better tool to extend learning,
to access to mainstream grade-level content and to promote English
language proficiency than the platform of technology.
Teachers need to integrate technology seamlessly into the curriculum
instead of viewing it as an add-on, an afterthought, or an event.

Three technology tools for ELL
• Educational Media Learning Lab
• Interactive Whiteboard
• Reading Assistant Software
Tool #1: Computer Learning Lab
• Teacher has ability to converse one-on-one with student with
headphones and no distractions
• Anytime a student needs clarification, they can press a call button and
teacher can respond back in private
• Recordings can be played back so students can hear their speech
proficiency
• Students can maximize their time by listening and practicing English
Tool #2: Interactive Whiteboard
• Struggling students can view material and gain confidence during a
individual/group presentation
• Teachers and students are allowed feedback identifying immediate
problems and showing comprehension
• Students see their work in front of them and work in real time,
increasing vocabulary growth
• Phonic cognition is greatly increased by interactive technology
Tool #3: Reading Assistant Software
• If student has difficulty reading a word, software intervenes
pronouncing word
• Students can self correct and receive individualized teaching every
instruction
• Students can practice reading aloud their speech recognition
• Software is easy to implement for school or home use
