The document provides guidance on production and safety procedures for a construction project. It outlines requirements for road base and emergency access, proper grading around buildings, housekeeping like broom sweeping before other trades begin and prohibiting eating or smoking in buildings. It also details requirements for confined space signage, barricades, fall protection measures like warning lines and fall arrest anchors, maintaining safe access to different levels, installing handrails immediately and stocking materials safely. Requirements for excavation safety, means of egress from excavations, and protections during wet conditions are also listed.
Best Practices for Implementing an External Recruiting Partnership
Groundwork Safety Essentials
1. Production and Safety starts from the ground;
up to the ridge of the roof.
Road base; emergency access
Grade around all buildings;
allow for adequate access for rough terrain lifts.
2. Housekeeping
Broom sweep before
sub-trades start their
work.
No EATING in
buildings.
No SMOKING in
buildings.
6. CAZ Requirement –
Warning Line
Red warning line six feet
from the exposed edge;
continuous along the
building perimeter.
One monitor per six
men.
Workers must have the
sticker on their HH
designating the level
where they are allowed
to work.
8. Proper Access to
Landings
Supply
adequate
handrail.
Provide safe
access to next
level.
Maintain clear
walkway; free of
trip and fall
hazards.
9. Access to Roof
Provide an extension
ladder or properly
constructed site-built
ladder for access to
roof.
The opening is a
minimum of 6’ from
the leading edge.
10. Stocking Materials
Handrails must be
maintained while
stocking the building
with materials.
Good Housekeeping
practices.
14. Excavation
General Inspection of Jobsite:
Excavations, adjacent areas, and protective systems inspected by
a competent person daily before the start of work.
Spoils, materials, and equipment set back at least two feet from
the edge of the excavation.
Barriers provided at all remotely located excavations, wells, pits,
shafts, etc.
Warning vests or other highly visible clothing provided and worn
by all employees exposed to public vehicular traffic.
Utility companies contacted and/or utilities located.
Exact location of utilities marked.
Underground installations protected, supported, or removed when
excavation is open.
15. Means of Egress
Lateral travel to means of egress no greater than 25 feet in excavations
four feet or more in depth.
Ladders used in excavations secured and extended three feet above the
edge of the trench.
Structural ramps used by employees designed by a competent person.
Wet Conditions:
Water removal equipment monitored by a competent person.
Surface water or runoff diverted or controlled to prevent accumulation in
the excavation.
Inspections made after every rainstorm or other hazard-increasing
occurrence.

Please review email file; “STD 03-00-001”
This is the Directive that governs residential stick frame construction.
Please review email file; “Interpretation Letters”.
This interpretation further defines the above standard.
I highlighted the areas that pertain to Group I.
We will get into Groups III & IV latter.
Group II does not pertain to wood-stick framed buildings.
The items in red are my comments.
